Zippy Zapped all the way back to the future

My apologies to a great friend of the blog, Zippy Zappy. I was cleaning out my “drafts” folder, and found this post, which I swore had gone live but apparently it never had. Perhaps the Blogger scheduling function ate it? We’ll go with that as an excuse. Anyhow, I re-worked the post just a tad, and wanted to make sure I still shared a bunch of these treasures.

A few weeks ago (now…more like a few months ago!), Kenny from Cervin’ Up Cards sent me an incredible package. I was Zippy Zapped! And you know what? It felt great!

Kenny knows what I collect as well as anyone, and his packages always contain a bunch of stuff that hits all facets of my collections.

The package started off with this certified auto of Francisco Cervelli, a PC guy for Zippy Zappy. A long time ago I sent Kenny a Cervelli auto I had, and he’s now paid me back for it twice – first with either an in-person or TTM auto (not sure which it was), and now with a certified auto.
There was also an auto of former Yanks farm-hand Ryan Pope from one of my favorite sets ever, 2008 Tristar Projection.
On to the PC guys! This is probably the 3rd or 4th Ty Hensley auto Kenny has sent me. This is a great-looking blue die-cut auto from Elite Extra Edition.
Additionally, Kenny added two new Pinedas to my collection. That purple Chrome Refractor is just a beautiful card.
There was also a literal brick of cards in the form of a Sega-Gen card case. The case is great. I have no idea how to use it, but what a cool keepsake. I can see collectors piling their Sega-Gen cards into these and actually going to arcades to play the game. Maybe I'll give it to Joey once he is a little older and can semi take care of cards.

Here’s a good sampling of what else was in the brick:

Lastly, as he’s done before, he included some HOFers for Joey’s binder! That Hank Aaron is one of my favorite cards in Joey’s collection.
Kenny, sorry this post got lost in outer space. This was an epic package, and I thank you.

JBF Epic Boxes: Packs 5-6

Here are two more packs in the Jaybarkerfan Epic flat rate boxes that he sent my way a while back. Each pack was like a repack of my favorite team. It was a blast to go through.

I'll stop boring you with my gushing and show you team bags 5 & 6:

Pack 5

First up, a nice slew of Mattingly. I always loved that illustrated Upper Deck card.
This Ted Williams set is so underrated. I actually have this Bobby Brown card autographed, and it looks great. Just a simple, classy looking set.
So Ricky Ledee was supposed to follow Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio in the line of great Yankee CFers. He didn't quite pan out, although his tenure in the Bronx did have a lot of big moments, including starting the 1998 World Series. He also hit a HR and made a game-saving catch in David Cone's perfect game. The next year, he helped bring over David Justice in a trade. See? Ledee did a lot!
And the card of the pack? This Ralph Houk! What a cool card. It's from 1987 TCMA.
Total cards in pack: 49
Running total: 147

Pack 6

This team bag starts with even more Jeters. I may need to do a postmortem and recap how many Jeters were included. There had to be 20 or so.
I love both of these cards. The Gardner...that's just a ball player. The Adrien Hernandez is cool too. Minor league cards are so much fun. Look at those ads! Hernandez was actually called "El Duquecito" or "Little El Duque." Unfortunately, he didn't have a very successful career.
The card of the pack? This 2013 Topps Target Red Parallel of Francisco Cervelli after a walk-off hit. I love the emotion. And look who is there to join Mr. Cervelli! An ARod cameo. Zippy Zappy, do you need this parallel? If so, it's yours.

Total cards in pack: 41
Running total: 188

Servin' up cards from Cervin' Up Cards

First off, if you haven't visited Zippy Zappy's blog - Cervin' Up Cards - go do that before reading any farther.
I'm ashamed to say that it has taken me about two months to do this post. Kenny (Zippy Zappy) sent me such a big padded envelope of cards that it's been intimidating to blog about. Eventually, I got the courage to scan some of my favorite cards, but still have been a bit worried about the daunting task of showing off the cards. However, it's time. The cards deserve it.

First off, I'll start with the PC guys. The Ty Henley autograph is awesome. Numbered to 40, the card is as thick as a pack of cards.I think Ty's going to have a breakout year. He was a very promising prep pitcher who was projected to go in the middle of the first round, but fell to the end of the first round where the Yanks scooped him up. He missed last year with hip surgery, but should be ready to go this year.

I'll go with some inserts and shiny cards next. The Yogi GQ is very, very classy. I love the photo and the gold boarder is a really nice, dark gold. Not flashy at all. the Thurman Munson liquorfractor is cool as well. It should be called a beerfractor for him. The Jeter diecut is cool too. I love Jeter first pump cards. I may have a hundred fist pump cards of his. I may need to count them one day.

More autographs! I really appreciate Kenny sending me the Cervelli. I sent him a Goudey Cervelli auto once, so he went out of his way to make sure he replaced in my collection. The other autograph is from Yeicok Calderon. You wish your team has a guy name "Yeicok."

A Japanese card! Kenny sends the coolest Japanese cards between these and the Sega Gen cards.
And last but not least, vintage! The Bauer is a wreck...and I love it. Seriously, I'll take any Yankees from the 1950's. I don't care about condition. I want to own them. The Clarke is cool because I'm pretty sure I may put together the 1967 Yankees team set...I mean, I have Mantle and Ford. Why wouldn't I? And the McCovey is cool and I'll probably add it to Joey's binder. The current McCovey I have in there is him in a Padres jersey. With all due respect to Marcus, McCovey was not a Padre.
Kenny, as always, thank you so much!

Dimwit Group Break hits - from July!

I received my group break loot from the The Daily Dimwit's July group break in...well, July. But I got it right before I moved, so I didn't post anything about it. I moved 31 days ago, and I'm still using my move to blame my lack of blogging. Impressive.

Out of the 15 promised hits, I snagged two of 'em. Not too bad at all! I scored a cool Posada relic, and a Frankie Cervelli on-card auto. I hadn't been able to get him TTM, so this will do.

I also included a 2009 Topps Unique Jeter. I hadn't heard of this set. The cards were pretty cool. I'm not usually a fan of so much black, but these look pretty striking.
