2013 Panini Cooperstown Gold Crystal Parallel

Year: 2013
Manufacture: Panini
Set: Cooperstown
Card Number: 97
Card Type: Base Parallel
Parallel Set: Gold Crystal
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 265/299

COMC Black Friday Haul #19

For me it seems Cooperstown was a set that always had one more parallel to find.  Well I can say that with this Gold Crystal parallel I finally have all the parallels, except the Black Crystal 1 of 1.

I was just reminiscing the other day that it's been quite a while since we've had a HOF dedicated set.  Not that I'm pining for another Panini effort, but it would be nice to see a very decent effort by Topps for such a set.  Maybe now that Topps' golden cow will be entering the hall we'll see one.

The 2013 Coopertown set wasn't bad.  Panini using black and white photos eliminated them having to skew the colors of player uniforms and the close cropped faces meant they didn't need to airbrush out logos.  Panini probably could have found a worse picture of Robin to use for his card, but they also could have found one a little better.  A nice touch on the back of the card having the box score from the 1992 game against Cleveland where Robin hit his 3000th hit.  And a great piece of trivia is that Cleveland was the team that Robin got his 1000th and 2000th hits as well.

2005 Fleer Cooperstown Tribute

Year: 2005
Manufacturer: Fleer
Set: Tradition
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Cooperstown Tribute
Card Number: 4CT
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 1100/1999

Nothing like a shiny foilboard card to get the day off right.  I'm a big fan of Cooperstown tribute sets and cards.  The scan really doesn't do the card justice on just how shiny it is.

These Cooperstown Tribute cards were inserted into the Fleer Tradition set.  Tradition had become Fleers flagship set for the most part and the base set was suppose to be 750 cards, but Fleer's bankruptcy meant only Series 1 was release.  It's very possible that the 10 card Tribute set would have been much larger, but at least we got Robin included before the Fleer brand got sold to Upper Deck.  The cards are serial numbered to the year of induction, so Robin's is out of 1999.  There is an unnumbered gold parallel which was the retail insert for this set and there are two relic parallels to chase.

2013 Panini Cooperstown - Red Pennant box topper

Year: 2013
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Cooperstown
Card Number: 16
Card Type: Box Topper
Insert  Set: Red Pennants

I just got in my Black Friday order from COMC.  Included in the box was 26 new Yount items.  Some I've had sitting in my portfolio for over a year and others I picked up during the Black Friday sale on the site.  One of those items is this 2013 Panini Cooperstown Red Pennant box topper.  This was by far the most expensive item I picked up during the sale, but I still got it for a really good price.  This and it's sister blue pennant have been incredibly ellusive.  I've only seen a couple of these pop up on eBay and most of the time they either go for way more than I want to spend or the price tag is way too high.  So when one of these popped up on COMC for less than $9 I couldn't resist finally adding it to the collection.  I'm not sure how rare either pennant is but from just from the sheer lack of seeing them very often I'd say they are pretty scarce.  2013 Cooperstown had a couple different box topper possibilities.  Besides the pennants there was also a die-cut Cooperstown Lumberjacks topper you could pull.  These are about 5-6 inches long and about 4 inches wide at the top and surprisingly stiff.  The pennants are a homage to the 1916 Ferguson Bakery pennants.  I'm still on the look out for its blue counterpart.

2015 Panini Cooperstown - Red parallel

Year: 2015
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Cooperstown
Card Number: 82
Card Type: Parallel
Parallel Set: Red
Card Attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 08/35

Even without a license Panini has done a pretty decent job with it's Hall of Fame sets using induction photographs and nice close ups like this one.  Plus while the photos are in black and white, negating having to photoshop the colors, they are incredibly clear and detailed.  The set has 5 base parallels, not counting the 4 printing plates.  And at just 35 copies each the Red parallel is the most numerous.  Like all the recent cards I've been featuring I was able to pick this up sometime last year and had it delivered as part of Black Friday shipment from COMC.

2005 Fleer Cooperstown Tribute Jersey Relic card

Year: 2005
Manufacturer: Fleer
Card Set: Tradition
Card Type: Insert Relic
Insert Set: Cooperstown Tribute Jersey
Card Number: CT/RY
Card Attributes: Relic
Relic Type: Jersey

Nothing like a plain gray swatch to celebrate the end of the regular baseball season.  The Brew Crew came so close to making it to the playoffs.  2005 would start the end of Fleer and in a couple years the company as collectors knew it would be gone.  But this was back when relics were labeled as Game-worn.  Not player touched, not player-worn, but used in an actual game.  Back when we had competition in the trading card market and companies had to try and give a damn.  (Get off my lawn you kids!!)

This set also has a patch parallel numbered to 10, the base card numbered to 1999 and a gold version of the base card unnumbered.

2012 Panini Cooperstown Induction Insert

Year: 2012
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Cooperstown
Card Number: 16
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Induction

2012 was the inaugural year for Panini's Cooperstown set. Robin graces not only the base set and all the parallels that go with that, but also has an autograph and a card in 4 other insert sets.  As insert sets go the Induction set is probably my favorite out of the bunch.  We get a great photo from Robin's induction in 1999, plus the overall lay out of the card is fairly well done since there are no logos to hide.

2013 Panini Cooperstown Orange Sparkle Matrix Parallel

Year: 2013
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Cooperstown
Card Number: 97
Card Type: Color Parallel
Parallel Set: Orange Sparkle Matrix parallel
Card attributes: Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 089/325

The 2013 Cooperstown set is full of color parallels.  And depending on where you turn for your information this parallel set is called multiple things.  Beckett calls it the Orange set.  Fair enough.  Cardboard Connection and Panini's own checklist call this Matrix.  Umm Ok.  Regardless it's still a great looking card color wise.  It reminds me of the sparkling fabric they use to use for padded bar stools and chairs, especially at bowling alleys or that really expensive prismatic paint they use on cars.  Still the card looks very nice in hand.

2015 Panini Cooperstown Crown Royal Silver Parallel

Year: 2015
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Cooperstown
Card Number: 82
Card Type: Insert Parallel
Insert Set: Crown Royale
Parallel Set: Silver
Card Attributes: Die-cut, Serial Numbered
Serial Number: 63/75

I've been building a small stack of cards in my portfolio over at COMC.  While good deals on Robin's cards can be few and far between they do happen and I've been steadily picking up store credit with their Challanges and picking up cards when I find a good deal.  I ended up throwing $20  in my account as well this year, an early Christmas present to myself and it helped me get over the 20 card threshold for free shipping during COMC's big Black Friday promotion.  I picked up quite a few cards for my player collections.  The majority were for Frank Thomas, but I did get 8 new Younts which I will be featuring.

First up is the this very shiny Crown Royale insert card from this year's Cooperstown set.  I have yet to add a base card from the set to my collection, but I now have a very low numbered insert.  You can see Robin's full card checklist from the set here and an explanation of all the confusing inserts here.

I'm pretty happy with this one.  It was the second most expensive card I purchased for Black Friday, but was still very reasonable.

2015 Panini Cooperstown Dual Etched in Cooperstown

Year: 2015
Manufacturer: Panini
Set: Cooperstown
Card Number: 11
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Etched in Cooperstown Dual

I got this card from the same seller that I got Robin's solo Etched in Cooperstown card.  Hard to pass up that combined shipping and the fact that they had two cards I wanted and needed for my collection.

This is a great card of Milwaukee's only HOF representatives.  The scan sucks I'm sorry these super shiney cards just don't scan well, but do look very nice in hand.  This set also features multiple color and gem parallels.  This is not the first time Robin's shared a cards with Molly, but I would think it would happen more often then it does.

2015 Panini Cooperstown Etched in Cooperstown

Year: 2015
Manufacturer: Panini
Card set: Cooperstown
Card Number: 60
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Etched in Cooperstown

Just got this guy in the mail the other day.  I also picked up the base dual Etched in Cooperstown with Paul Molitor from the same seller, gotta love combined shipping.  Robin has a bunch of cards in this year's Coopertown set, but the stand outs are these Etched in Cooperstown inserts.  They come in the plain old silver version here and gold and blue and inset with gems.  I really want to add a gem card to the collection, that would be a new one.

When I saw the preview for these I was torn.  I wasn't sure how they would look in hand, but after acquiring a Frank Thomas version from my local card shop I knew I would be picking  up Robin's card.

The scan really doesn't do the card justice.  Very shiny and I get what Panini was trying to do with the set.  While maybe not the most appealing card to some I will give Panini credit for coming up with something a little bit different.

Clearing up some confusion with Panini's 2015 Cooperstown.

I've been trying to sort out this year's Cooperstown offering from Panini.  Robin has quite a few cards to chase in the set and as I've been watching stuff on ebay I've become more and more confused with what card is in what insert set.  But I have been able to piece some stuff together.  Mainly from using the backs of the printing plates which actually list the set the card is in.

Robin has 3 cards that all look like base cards.

At first I wondered if they were variants, because they all are numbered 82 and from what I've seen all have the same backs.

Then I found this..
which had a back also listed.

So now I know that the card with Robin swinging is in the HOF Chronicles set.  One down.

Next I did some looking around I did find a printing plate with Robin holding his HOF plaque, but it didn't have an image of the back, so I looked though all the printing plates I could find and I found that images of players with holding their plaques or giving a speech or some other induction activity were in the HOF Induction set.  So I reasonably deduced that this card was in the HOF Induction set.
Not to be confused with the Induction Images which are foil board and Robin's card is #26 in the set like the one below.

That leaves us with one card which I can reasonably say is the actual base card to the base set.

So in summary

Base card
HOF Induction insert card

HOF Chronicles insert card, this one happens to be the red parallel version.
Induction Images insert, the card that actually says Induction on it.

I hope this helps clear up any confusion if your collecting Robin or another player with the same problem.

2012 Panini Cooperstown Credentials

Year: 2012
Manufacturer: Panini
Card Set: Cooperstown
Card Number: 7
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Credentials

You gotta love cards that don't feature a picture of their subject.  No really you don't.  This is one of the 4 insert cards Robin had in the set.  He also had a base card with parallels and an autograph.  And oddly enough it's one of two inserts that doesn't feature his likeness.

There's a lot going on in the front of the card, which is pretty much a summary of his Hall of Fame prowess.  It seems odd that there's no mention of 3142 hits on the front. Since belonging to the 3000 hits club, along with his two MVP awards, was why he was a first ballot selection.

New Yount Alerts July 2015

I was bummed to find Robin wasn't included in any capacity in this year's Allen and Ginter, but Panini is also putting out it's Cooperstown set today.  I've seen a couple preview images from Panini's blog featuring Robin, but the checklist has not been released yet so I'm not sure how many cards he has in the set and how many parallels.  Here are the two images Panini has released.

The Blue Molitor/Yount card is numbered to just 10 and the one below I think is numbered to 25.

When Panini finally releases the checklist I'll have a full list of Yount cards in the set.

2012 Panini Cooperstown

Card Manufacturer: Panini
Year: 2012
Card Set: Cooperstown
Card Number: 106
Card Type: Base

The inaugural year of Panini's Cooperstown brand.  Panini has got a lot of mileage out of it's Hall of Fame license and it all started here.  The design is interesting, I have a hard time deciding if I like it or not, but with so much information hidden around the card it's hard not to like it even if Panini used black and white photos, can't use logos, and opted for only one stat year on the back.  But I like the induction year on the top of the front of the card, the active playing years bracketing the player name on the back, and nice write up on the back.

Robin has a bunch of inserts in the set and an autograph.  This base card has one parallel, the Crystal Collection, serial numbered to 299 that were seeded 3 per hobby box.

2012 Panini Cooperstown HOF Classes Team card

Card Manufacturer: Panini
Card Set: Cooperstown
Year: 2012
Card Number: 24
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Hall of Fame Classes

It's always nice when a card you need falls into your lap.  Julie over at A Cracked Bat emailed me about a week or so ago and asked if the this was one of the cards on my Yount need list.  Indeed it was and all she asked for was my address.  Well I will be reciprocating eventually.

I had to look this insert set up to get the official name but these are called HOF Classes Team as opposed to the other set HOF Classes Induction Year.  I also discovered that these cards were retail blaster exclusives.  No wonder this card was so hard to find.  Robin had 6 or 7 cards in the 2012 Cooperstown set, including a base card and parallel, an auto and was in 5 of the insert sets.  Other than the auto this was the last card I needed for the set, so thank you very much Julie.

2013 Panini Cooperstown Colgan's Disc

Card Manufacturer: Panini
Card Set: Cooperstown
Year: 2013
Card Number: NNO
Card Type: Insert
Insert Set: Colgan's Discs

One of the cool inserts in this year's Panini Cooperstown set is the Colgan's discs. A nod to the original Colgan's Chips discs that were produced from 1909 - 1913.  These are found one per pack and Panini has produced a huge 165 disc set.
