The Temptations – Psychedelic Soul

The Temptations are an American vocal group formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1961 as The Elgins, known for their string of successful singles and albums with Motown from the 1960s to the mid-1970s. The group's work with producer Norman Whitfield, beginning with the Top 10 hit single "Cloud Nine" in October 1968, pioneered psychedelic soul, and was significant in the evolution of R&B and soul music. The group members were known for their choreography, distinct harmonies, and dress style. Having sold tens of millions of albums, the Temptations are among the most successful groups in popular music.

The addition of Dennis Edwards to The Temptations in the late 1960's coincided with the adoption of a new sound for the group by producer Norman Whitfield, and in the fall of 1968, Whitfield began producing psychedelic-based material for The Temptations, derived primarily from the sound of funk bands as Sly & the Family Stone and Funkadelic. This new style, which debuted with the Top 10 hit single "Cloud Nine" in October 1968, was a marked departure from the David Ruffin-era ballads. The instrumentation was funkier, the beat was hard-driving, and all five Temptations members traded lead vocals, similar to Sly & the Family Stone. "Cloud Nine" was the centrepiece of the group's landmark eponymous album of the same title.

Dr. John – The Very Best of Dr. John / The Definitive Collection/The Early Career Of Mac Rebennack

Malcolm John Rebennack Jr. (November 20, 1941 – June 6, 2019), better known by his stage name Dr. John, was an American singer, songwriter and pianist. His music combined New Orleans blues, jazz, R&B, soul and funk.

Active as a session musician from the late 1950's until his death, he gained a following in the late 1960's after the release of his album Gris-Gris (1968) and his appearance at the Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music (1970). He typically performed a lively, theatrical stage show inspired by medicine shows, Mardi Gras costumes, and voodoo ceremonies. Rebennack recorded thirty studio albums and nine live albums, as well as contributing to thousands of other musicians' recordings. In 1973, he achieved a top-10 hit single with "Right Place, Wrong Time".

Romark Records - Kent Harris' Soul Sides

Kent Levaughn Harris (October 15, 1930 – April 9, 2019) was an American songwriter and record producer, who is best known as the writer of novelty tunes such as "Shoppin' for Clothes" (a hit for The Coasters, featured on Broadway’s Musical Smokey Joe’s Cafe) credited to Harris, Leiber and Stoller), and "Cops and Robbers" (a hit for Bo Diddley, The Rolling Stones, George Thorogood and Wayne Fontana) . He recorded under various pseudonyms including Ducky Drake and Boogaloo and his Gallant Crew.
