AquaSpotting: Aquarium Maintenance

F.O.A.M.er Cindy Healy spotted this on her way home a few days ago. Not only is the name appropriate, but he also used the logo right from the comic. Clever, if probably not completely legal! Thanks Cindy!

Aqua-Building

Hmm, this cosplay of Spindrift Station isn't really all that faithful to the comic book version.

Airport Aquaman

sg
F.O.A.M.er Geoff Berman, he of the eagle-eyes and cat-like reflexes, caught what looks like the Sea King himself catching a flight! As any good FOAMer does, he had his Lego Aquaman mini-figure with him, and managed to snap a pic of both. Amazing!

Thanks Geoff, and nice work!

Aqua-Spotting: Aquaman Plumbing

sg
sg
F.O.A.M. member Craig McGinnes snapped these in-the-field shots of Aquaman Plumbing, which operates out of Maryland.

We've had a number of "Aqua-Spotting" segments in the past (see label below), but amazingly this is the first time we've seen a plumber with this name, which you'd think would be a no-brainer.

Craig added that while the lettering in the pictures looks reddish, it was most definitely orange! Thanks Craig!

Aquaman Cleaning and Painting

sg
Eagle-eyed F.O.A.M.er Mac Schafer spotted this truck the other day, another case of using "Aquaman" in a perfectly logical, if-maybe-legally-dubious context.

I imagine any water-based company looks into using this for their name, hopefully checking to see if someone else in the area has taken it first
.

Today is Mac's birthday, so thanks Mac and Happy Birthday!

Aquaman Recovery

sg Check out this article from an ABC station down in Clearwater, Florida, about a guy who specializes in searching the ocean for lost items.

As if that wasn't cool enough, read the last paragraph, and what he calls his business. I think the Shrine may need to arrange an interview!

AQ3 "Aquaman" GPS Case

sg I found this strange little item while absent-mindedly surfing around eBay one day--an AQ3 "Aquaman" brand waterproof case for a portable GPS device. And when I say portable, I mean portable as anything can be when its the size of small canoe.

I guess this is sort of a really early cellphone, except it doesn't make phone calls? You can see from the "action pics" on the box, I guess you were supposed to bring it with you when you went mountain climbing.

If I ever went mountain climbing, I'd bring some Aquaman comics, which would probably be just as helpful as this ungainly thing.

Aqua-Man Water Conditioning

sg
Yet another business using Aquaman as its moniker, this time its a water conditioning outfit, which makes sense. I always wonder, do places like this even know there is an Aquaman, or did they come up with it all on their own?

You can check out their website here, and they even offer a handy map so you can find them:
sg
...don't tell Black Manta or Ocean Master!

The Aqua Man, LLC

sg
Here's another company using the good name of Aquaman to sell itself. So far, The Aqua Man LLC exists as just a front page, with no further clues as to their products or identity. Its probably just some LexCorp front company.

"Just Look For Aquaman!"

F.O.A.M. member Wil Radcliffe sent me what might be the single most off-the-wall Aquaman reference, period. This is a 60-second radio ad for a towing/auto repair service called Chuck's Towing that operates in right around the border between Michigan and Indiana:

...what. the. hell.

Wil wonders if they have Aquaman or the Aquaman logo on their truck (I'm sure DC would like to know that, too), but doesn't know for sure. Five bucks American to any F.O.A.M.er in the area who snaps a picture of one of Chuck's trucks and sends it in, Aquaman or no. An amazing find, thanks Wil!

Broken Record Department: Can you picture any business using The Flash or Green Lantern in such an offhand way? Once again, we see an example of Aquaman being part of the culture in a way that only few comic book characters have managed.

AquaSpotting

sg
This installment of AquaSpotting is courtesy F.O.A.M. member Andy Luckett, who sent me this photo of Aqua Man Pools, Spas, and Billiards, LLC.

Andy describes it as an "
abandoned billiard and swimming pool store the next town over." Sounds like the perfect place for a Joker hideout to me--maybe Aquaman and Batman ought to look into it.

Thanks Andy!

Aquaman Irrigation

sg
Sent to me by F.O.A.M.er Brian Heiler. Does DC know about this?

This reminds me a bit of a local electrician around here who has a giant Jack Kirby Thor painted on the side of their van, with little electrical bolts coming from his hammer. Pretty clever, but violating copyrights all over the place!

Aquaman OS-11 Operation Battle Starter...?

sg
Every so often I go trolling on eBay to see if there any cute little (read: cheap) Aquaman items up for sale that I want (read: need). There hasn't been much lately, but I did come across this oddity.

It's listed as a "Rockman Operation Battle Starter OS-11 Aquaman Megaman", whatever the hell that is (sounds like something Cartman really would want).

As you can see from the packaging, there doesn't seem to be any connection to Aquaman whatsoever, except for the "Navi Data Chip/Aquaman" label on the top right of the package. What "Aquaman" means in this context is anyone's guess.

It's currently for sale here, and while I am curious to see if there is any connection to the Sea King, I'm not curious enough to bid on it.
________________________________________________________

sg
Completely unrelated, here is the cover to the upcoming Brave and the Bold comic series, part of the Johnny DC line. This graphic was sent to me by several F.O.A.M. members on the same day, so I can only assume DC finally has started soliciting the book.

Aquaman in particular looks very Ren and Stimpy-ish to me, but I have to say the beard is really growing on me. Plus, look how huge he is compared to Batman!

Thanks for the heads-up fellas!
