Cover Wars: The Book of Broken Hearts - Sarah Ockler

Hardback / Paperback

What do you think? I really like the hardback but I *think* I prefer the paperback - but both highlight an aspect of the story that plays a big part.  The book for the hardback and the motorbike for the paperback. Hmmm - decisions!

Cover Wars: Wildwood (Wildwood Blog Tour)

Hardback Cover / Paperback Cover

I think both of these have a very similar feel and I absolutely love the illustrations! The series is illustrated by the author's wife,  Carson Ellis and I really do love the design.  It takes me back to my childhood and reminds me of Narnia and all those other magical stories I read that transported me into a different world.  You get a strong sense from the cover what kind of story is contained inside.

I'm slightly torn between the covers though as I do really like them both!  I love the title design on the Hardback (the way it curves across the page like a banner) and the symmetrical feel of the cover.  But I absolutely love the children holding hands on the Paperback cover!  It makes me want to take the adventure with them.

So in conclusion I think they are both gorgeous!   Below is the cover for the second book in the series - Under Wildwood -  and I think when compared the Hardback design for Wildwood matches Under Wildwood just that little bit better.

If you want to find out more about Wildwood check out the Colin Meloy Channel on the Canongate website, the Wildwood Chronicles Website and if you fancy seeing more of Carson Eliis' illustrations/work she has a website you can check out.

And make sure you check out the rest of the tour:) Serendipity Reviews has the first chapter of Under Wiildwood which you can read here. The next stop on the tour is next week over at The Overflowing Library.  See the banner on my sidebar for more details.

Cover Wars

Hardback / Paperback

Amazon have got this up as the Paperback cover. I really love it - it's very haunting and really catches my eye BUT I absolutely LOVE the Hardback cover. It is the main reason for me buying the book - there is just something about it that I can't quite put my finger on but it would win every time!

Also don't you think that they make the book feel completely different?  It took me a minute to realise that the paperback cover was for the same book.

What do you think? Do you have a strong preference? And for those of you who have read it  - which I really need to do and soon! - which suits the story better?

Cover Wars: Hold Still

This is definitely one of those occasions when it is really hard to choose. I love the hardback and it ties in great with the book and the illustrations inside, but I also love the paperback and think it has a very 'adult' look. It certainly wouldn't look out of place in the adult fiction section!

So...nope! I can't choose!

Cover Wars: Hardback vs Paperback

Having recently ordered Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott in paperback (there are so many good reviews for this and I loved Bloom) I was disappointed that they changed the cover for it's release. That is not to say I don't like it because I do - although it has a very 'twilight' feel that seems to be in abundance lately (black background with a photographic image) - there is just something about the hardback that really caught my attention.

Cover Wars: Hardback vs Paperback

The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E Lockhart has just be published in paperback (in the US) with a new cover:

Paperback Hardback

For some reason I'm really disappointed that they changed the cover. I LOVED the hardback cover and although I like the paperback one it just doesn't have the same impact on me.
