Pete's Chari & Soma

So last month we said goodbye to a friend, Nara biking legend and all round good guy big Pete and his lovely lady returned home to America after three years in Tawaramoto, Nara. He very kindly left his prized Bubba with us which meant during his final few weeks he was riding this rather fine example of the ubiquitous Japanese mama-chari...

That #BasketLyfe thing was happening here well before the Californian yuppies and dentists made it trendy and expensive...

No need for #ShutUpLegs style inspirational top tube quotes, just a few sensible rules to keep oneself alive...

Fully enclosed single speed chain guards are the new 1x11...

Security is important too...

A fine steed, a work horse that will still be rolling the streets of southern Nara long after we've all moved onto the next tyre size gravel bike coffee outsiding trend...

He may be gone but he's still riding. And in style too on his new SomaFab 26er looking pretty pretty good in these two shots...

Bonus cool points for the Bob Mould star...

There will be regular updates posted here soon from the man himself and his bike adventures in Minneapolis.

FiN On A Roll

Fixed In Nara has gone blogging crazy this past few weeks with no fewer than five new posts this month already. Covering everything from local rides to commuting, bike shops to bakeries and cool cafes...

Really useful stuff with beautiful photography, what blogging should be rather than the endless bike snaps and lazily posted BMX videos you find on some sites. Follow FiN on Instagram and Twitter.

Vintage Cycling Magazines at Giracha

Whilst at Giracha last month with AdamSayaka was kind enough to show us a couple of early 80's "New Cycling" magazines...

Each one a treasure trove of Japanese cycling history and vintage styles with features on legends like Nagasawa-san...

Samson...

And 3Rensho...

The advertisements are beautiful documents of what was a boom time for Japanese cycling...

Can't quite understand why the tennis racket holder didn't catch on though...

Thanks as always to Sayaka, Rene and the whole Giracha family.

A few shots of F-i-N's rarely seen custom Giant TCR roadbike...

Looking especially sweet with a new pair of Grand Bois tyres...

Rolling on a Rolf Prima Vigor wheelset...

And rocking a new Thomson stem...

One of the nicest roadbikes in town, follow F-i-N on Instagram to see the bike in action.
