2mm Experiment!

Hi all!
I have been busy doing a little gaming and some painting. I will have some more posts up soon on the naval battle that Soren and I played at the club two weekends ago.  But first a little something different.

The green stuff covered 2mm thick base with the article below.

Another view of the base

I have never worked with 2mm miniatures before, but it has crossed my mind in the past. To try and get the effect of thousands of warriors or soldiers on the battle field. I recently got my digital copy of WSS # 93 and there was a great article titled DIY Epic Legions: 2mm Roman Triplex Acies Made Easy” by Mark Backhouse. I thought the idea was brilliant and It could work for many different time periods. Well I contacted WSS and I got an email from Mark Backhouse and we exchanged some emails and I was convinced that this could work for the Viking era.

Painted, top

So here is my experimental unit. It is not historical to the Viking age as it is a huge massed phalanx. I have some sources that describe the Vikings as fighting in 5 rank deep formations that were in the hundreds in a file. So, I have some warbase bases on order and we will see how I can simulate a group of Vikings in a few of the known formations that are recorded and see if I can create a force of Vikings and Anglo Saxons to use for some games of Sword and Spear.

Here is the shield wall!

Shield wall with grass. I might need to use a thinner grass next time.

A side view.

Stay tuned for more on this lite project.

Have a good weekend!

Swedish Svea Guardsman.

Hi all,

Well I did some painting recently and I wanted to share the results with you. As I stated in my last post I planned to paint up the recent arrived Eagle Miniatures as a soldier in the Svea Guard unit in the 1808-1809 period of the Napoleonic Wars.

Here is the results.

Please provide some feed back. I have only one source to work from.

Thank you!

1808-1809 Swedish Army take two!!!

Hi all,
So I have continued to search for a good source for Swedish 28mm miniatures from the Napoleonic Wars. I found Eagle Miniatures and they have a line of 28mm Swedish troops.
I placed an order for 8-Grenadiers and 8- Line Infantry as well as one 6lb artillery gun and crew. I also got two officers to add to the mix.

After receiving and looking at the "Grenadiers" it looks like they are actually Guard Infantry, based on the hat and the uniform.
From what I understand the Grenadiers wore this type hat (image 1) and the Guards wore this hat (image 2). The figure I received is wearing this hat (image 3 and 4)

The coat worn by the Grenadiers is seen here (image 5) and the Guards is see here (image 6), The miniature looks like this (image 7,8,and 9)

So based on my sources "The Army of the Kingdom of Sweden 1802-1814" by W.J. Rawkins I would have to say that the figure I received which is labeled as a "Grenadier" on the Eagle Miniatures website is a actually a Guards infantryman wearing the 1807 uniform?

I need your feedback here before I start painting this up please!!!

I plan to paint these miniatures up as the Svea Lifeguard based on the references from W.J Rawkins's book.

Any and all feedback will be great!

Tack!

Improved paint job on Swedish MBT and IFV

Hi all,

I am surprised I did not get many suggestions or comments on the vehicles I painted the other day.

Well I did some looking around for suggestions for painting 6mm micro armor and they suggest dry brushing after the ink wash. So today I did just that I took some light gray paint and did a dry brush of both vehicles.

I think this helped bring out the details in the miniatures.

If you have any feed back please let me know.

Enjoy!

WW2 Coastal forces

Hi everyone.
I am not actually trying to post on the same day in three different months but that is just how it has worked out.

So here is a new scale for WW2 naval, 3mm or 1:600 scale ships.  Yes I found P.T. Dockyard on the web and purchased there rules for coastal combat in WW2 and I was hooked. Of course being that I am living in Sweden now I had to do some research on the Swedish PT boats from WW2 and it looks like I have a bunch of what if missions to run in future games.

So I pained up some ships and one sub for an upcoming game that I want to run.

Here we have a Type VIIc Uboat from Heroics and Ros coastal forces.

Next up is the Swedish T-4 class Motor Torpedo Boat that was purchased from England in 1940. According to my sources four were purchased but only two were delivered so here is T3 and T4.

After looking at pictures of T4 I decided to buy the P.T. Dockyard's Vospers 70' MTB to represent the T4 class of MTB's. I have a book coming to the local library that should give me more information on the MTB's used by Sweden in WW2.

Can anyone tell me who served on T4 during WW2?

OK next up are two German S-Boats. These are late war versions probably S-100 + series since they have the armored skull cap bridge. These are also from P.T. Dockyard.

With the game fast approaching, tomorrow... I had to paint up some torpedo markers. Let's see if anyone will hit anything in the game.

Here is a group shot of all the miniatures I was able to get painted up today.

Have a good week! Hopefully I will have pictures from the game by this weekend.
