Prussian Wied Fusiliers and Battleground Show

A busy start to the week at work but I have managed to finish off the next SYW regiment

The Wied Fusiliers they seem to have a very characteristic red/bronze hat which you can’t quite see in the picture, but they are a nice sculpts, when I bought a big box of Pendraken Prussians it included several different sculpts and I quite like these ones advancing
As noted in the previous post I attended the Battleground Show at the weekend. Putting on a small participation game with Vikings versus Muslim in Al Andalus. The picture shows the set up for each game, I thing I played the scenario six times on the day. All seemed to enjoy the experience, what was nice was I was able to link it to the new Lion Rampant supplement A Viking in the sun. I also had a number of lengthy conversation with people about the book, my terrain seems to create some interest and lots of people came to take photos or pass comment, so a good day. I sadly didn’t get a chance to really look at any other games.
I did rush around and grab some stuff really just to support a couple of traders, picking up a few bits and bobs as above.
The craters is really lazy as I should have made them but they were a very reasonable price from Ironclad Miniatures and really easy to paint up, so we will see these soon on a battlefield. In hindsight I’m not sure about the grass now so that might get scrapped off ?

Thanks as always for looking 👍

18th Century Dragoons and Infantry , Battleground Show Stockton

Not sure why but I seem to have fallen into painting both SYW and AWI figures at the same time. Mind you I was doing early war tanks a couple of weeks ago. Anyway a couple of units completed in the last week or so. Some small some larger…..

A third unit of Prussian Dragoons, really the only notable thing about them is I painted 16 rather than the normal 15 and didn’t even notice but six fit on a base as well as five
With our next AWI battle scheduled for this evening (depending on the NW American storms?) I needed to crack on with a few more hessians this regiment is a bit of a polyglot but they look ok and will be playing as various units anyway. The flags from GMB really are nice so I want to get some more from them in the future.
I am attending the Battleground Show in NE England next weekend putting on a small Demo/Participation game. This is focussed around the various raids by Vikings into Al Andalus between about 800 and 1100
Really it is a chance to get a quick and fun game on the table using lion Rampant rules
It coincided with me seeing this new supplement so I ordered a copy which gives it some nice context.

If you are a follower of the blog and visiting Battleground at Stockton do come over and say hello, I’ll either be
playing or perhaps shopping ?

Hold until relieved : Bolt Action and some Prussian Artillery SYW

Phil offered to host another virtual game this weekend using his lovely late war WWII collection. We used the hold until relieved scenario from the rule book. Having taken the attack last time I took the plucky brits to defend the bridge against elements of the 216th Volksgrenadier Division.

As to be expected some lovely terrain, the British are allowed to setup two units at the start close to the objective which in this case is the centre of the bridge. You can see these above a regular infantry squad just across the river and supported on this side by a Vickers Machine gun. The Germans are already starting to advance from the woods on the right.
The British bring on their 1st wave, advancing as quickly as they can using the cover of the buildings, including a Cromwell tank which moves towards the bridge.
The Germans bring on more troops but are reluctant to break into the open.
The battle starts to hot up, the Germans attempt to break out towards the bridge but they come under heavy fire
Worrying a German panzersheck team breaks across the open ground towards the Cromwell, but the British get the better of hand to hand fighting in the town
British infantry make a dash for the bridge and come under fire but it isn’t enough to purchase them back. The two armoured vehicles close in and blast away ineffectively at each other several rounds bouncing off their armour
The final position, a pretty decisive win for the British. A good game but the Germans never quite managed to get their assault off the ground
Have also decided to crack on with some SYW figures. So here are some Prussian Artillery

Hope you are  all well......I have had my 1st vaccine today and not feeling particularly well so we’ll see how things go the rest of the week 😀👍

Seven Years War Prussian Fusiliers

The next unit in my seven years war project another unit of Prussian Fusiliers. These are the Von Kreytzen Fusiliers a wonderfully colourful unit in their pink uniforms.

These are a slightly different pose to the majority of the other units I have so far and make a refreshing change
I wouldn’t normally show close ups especially of 10 mm figures but in this case I thought others might be interested to see the quality of the sculpting and casting. It makes them fairly easy to paint. Although I suspect given a LOT more time and patience they would be superb. I am aiming for bulk and they will do for me.

Not really looking forward to the next period of lockdown but hopefully some virtual games and lots of painting to be done. Take care everybody 😀

Austrian Infantry : Seven Years War

While the enthusiasm was high I rattled off another Austrian Infantry Unit this time 2 battalions of the Count von Wallis regiment, in their Red not much else I can say about them really 🙂

Baden-Durlach Regiment : SYW

Finished the next Austrian infantry unit for the SYW the Baden-Durlach Regiment

Pendraken miniatures again these have a slightly different standard bearer which initially I didn’t like but they have grown on me now the flags are attached. I have just noticed I need to put some blue on the musicians shoulder board which I forgot to do ?

I am working on the next Regiment but plenty more to go 😀

Austrian Grenzers : Seven Years War

Next up I thought I would add some Austrians for the SYW project. They come from Pendraken in packs of 30 like the rest of their infantry but as light troops I felt they should be less regimented in their appearance. So they have been spread out 10 to a base.

These represent the Karlstadter-Lykaner and Banal Regiments, no flags as it says they probably didn’t carry them in the field ? I understand they could also form into more standard infantry formations so I might paint some And base them in line formation.

More SYW Prussians

Well a rubbish lack of blogging, sorry, work has been busy with lots of rain and when faced with the choice I keep choosing painting over blogging. Perhaps when we get into Autumn I will sort myself out. Anyway bit of a spurt on SYW and I have nailed a couple more Prussian regiments. I actually quite enjoy painting these regiments.

Von Manteuffel musketeers

and the Von Münchow Fusiliers

I am now basing all these on split bases rather than the original plan of single bases as they give more flexible options. I prefer the paper flags but the units come with the precast metal option and it just seems silly to replace them all so I am mixing them up a bit. Whilst scanning through eBay I found these on offer so I now have a lot more Prussians to paint they were about 25% discount so is was silly not to buy them (that’s what I told my wife anyway)

And I have managed to keep on with the cycling despite some aches and pains here is yet another shot of the Lake District one beautiful evening.

Sorry again for the lack of battle reports I do have a couple to catch up on and we are planning a big ACW this weekend👍

Seven Years War : Kaiser Regiment

Just a quick update as I have finished another diminutive Seven Years War Regiment, this time the Austrian Kaiser Regiment.

Once again these are Pendraken figures and the last of my Austrian starter army pack infantry. I have a couple of cavalry units to do, and the little artillery I have. I will push on with this project in the background but a restock is in going to be needed soon.

It goes without saying these are strange times for nearly all of us, personally I find the virtual network of contacts an important way to keep in touch so will do my best to keep up with the blogging. I have some plans developing to do some gaming as well as painting. Keep safe everybody and keep painting.

Prussian Cuirassier Regiment : SYW

With the nasty weather at the weekend I spent some time painting up my first SYW Prussian Cavalry Regiment. The 1st Cuirassier Regiment. These were again quite fun and fairly quick to paint.
The lighter colours work well, I experimented with different horse colours
Like the infantry the figures would take more detail but I am not really sure they need it
A closer shot
Here are my three test units, very happy with the effect, one of the key things was getting the figures to stand out not the bases so I think I will keep the bases simple
I’ll crack on with a few more more infantry units for the Prussians and then try some Austrians. I also have some different standards to try next as well.

Prussian Grenadiers Regt. No 1

I launched into my second unit of Prussians to see what I could do. Theses are Prussian Grenadiers. Regt No 1. The sculpts are slightly different so I had to do another test figure, I have found in this scale it is quite hard to see the detail until you actually get some painting done, and my objective is speed to some extent, so I don’t want the extra step of staining before painting.
Here is the Regiment based up 🙂 pretty happy with the result
Thought people might like to see a little closer although hard to take photos ! The sculpts are really good and you could easily add more detail, especially on the cuffs, I might come back to them at some point
A shot from behind mainly to show the rear of their Grenadier caps.

So far so good, the really good news is I pretty much painted the whole unit in 4 hours. It isn’t worth (in my view) spending more time on them as I would be painting detail for the sake of it. The basing took a bit extra, glueing and so on. The nice thing is you feel great completing a Regiment so quickly. Next up I obviously need to try a Prussian Cavalry Regiment 🙂
