Airfix De Havilland DH.88 Comet

I built up this kit a bit sooner that I had originally expected to be honest. It was one of the semi-regular Lidl batch of reduced price starter kits and looked like a lovely airplane (and it is to be fair). Once bought I did the usual wee search on the 'net to check peoples builds and opinions of it. Fair to say there was quite a bit of teeth gnashing going on.!

Airfix Curtiss Tomahawk 11B

I was starting to feel like I needed a wee break from the Critter treadmill (as much fun as it is) so a quick scramble into the loft and I pulled out this classic starter a change of scene - the Curtiss P40C Tomahawk

Lindberg Heinkel He-162

After enjoying my last Lindberg build so much I rushed out (to Ebay!) to see if they had any more unusual planes to build. I picked up 2, and here is the first - the German late war Emergency jet fighter Heinkel He-162.

Lindberg Heinkel He-100

I've had a bit of a varied experince with Lindberg Kits, with my Kingfisher being fine and the Sabre being awful, and started this one with the extra trepidation of the horror taht was the JU-88 kit earlier in the year....

Airfix Junkers Ju88A-4

I was really looking forward to building this iconic light bomber, but it ended up as the worst kit ever, and combined with busy work, completely draining my hobby mojo for weeks and weeks!

Future Fonts

A quick pointer\reference post, partially for myself.

I always have issues with fonts for signs, banners, etc for Sci-Fi Terrain, but I've come across the perfect site with loads of free cool fonts at dafont.com.

Many look ideal. I did a test install to my Windows 11 PC and it worked perfectly in GIMP. Simple.

Should be useful.

The First Of Many...

Painted 15mm British Tommy

...Or at least a few. A Battleground British Tommy, my first test 15mm WWII Allied figure.

Ooops!

I had decided ages ago that I didn't need a resin 3D printer. I have a FDM one for scenery, etc but didn't need one for minis as I have a substantial pile awaiting paint.

But here I now am, having been tempted by a used production model (with very recent lcd screen change)  at a reduced £125 from Dave at Mighty Mini's UK , who is based round the corner from me (he was upgrading to a bigger model). Quite looking forward to the wee adventure once all the other paraphernalia arrives. More as it happens...

Airfix Junkers Ju87b-1 Stuka

In my previous model kit I mentioned that this kit might be finished in the near future. Well in the same blogging year counts, right?

WIP - Majestic 13 Troopers

I picked up a copy of Snarling Badgers new solo\coop ruleset "Majestic 13" this week, or at least the pdf with the hard copy on it's way. If you've not heard about it think "XCom", linked campaign missions of small squads taking on an Alien menace with different objectives and hazards. The game is miniature agnostic, so despite technically having figures already painted up that could step into the action, what better time than to delve into the depths of the lead pile and get some new painted figures done. It's almost as if we are forward planning or something!

Building WIP

 A quick WIP post.

After being away on Holiday to the lovely North Wales coast, this last week hasn't seen me n the mood for painting, but I have been doing some easier focus work in the hobby shed in the form of putting together some mdf buildings that have been sitting around for a while.

Fiends Reunited

Who doesn't enjoy a quick project? Rules changes in 6th ed. WHFB saw Ghouls go from a rank-and-file unit to a skirmisher formation. With that in mind, I decided to cover both rule sets with different movement trays for them. Not that I play both systems, its nice to just daydream and they look great...

New Rules - County Road Z

My print copy of County Road Z popped through the door the other day. It is a solo\coop game, a genre which seems to have really picked up since the Global Covid Hooha.. The game is focused on building a community of survivors. Half the game is on the tabletop, with scenarios scavenging for resources or a particular narrative, and half is "off table" building, organising and fortifying your community base.

Still in the reading stages but it's have me looking at my Zombie game supplies (again) in the Hobby Shed.

available in pdf and Print on Demand from Wargame Vault.

Napoleonic French Space Farer

As my self bought pressie from Santa this year I bought a mystery box from North Star Miniatures but didn't open it until the big day itself. My box was pretty Frostgrave & Africa biased, which is fine as I can use these figures in my collection, but the one main outlier was a Napoleonic French Officer. I decided it would be a bit of fun to convert him for Sci-Fi use.

Bolt Action Startup

So a thread went out on the Falkirk Wargaming Club Facebook page to see if anyone wanted to try learning Bolt Action.

Shadowrun Miniatures Quick Comparison

Shadowrun, Shadowrun, Urban War, Stargrave, Shadowrun, Copplestone

Thoughts have been a bit more Sci-Fi than usual over the last few months with Stargrave, Five Parsecs from Home and Reality's Edge all sitting next to the comfy chair.

Being a fan of Ral Partha Europe's miniature line I'd been wondering about how the Shadowrun line scaled with other figures, especially as Reality's Edge was crying out for more Cyberpunk types. I had it in my head that they were more "true 25mm". I had asked on Facebook but Paul is obviously a busy man so never managed to have a look.

So I took advantage of a flash 20% sale and included the Shadowrun Assassins pack with my order to test the water.

And the result is more favourable than I'd expected truth be told. I'll be happy to mix anyway, you can judge for yourself.

Broken Realms of Hell (pt 1)

There's a new skirmish game in town called "Reign in Hell" where warbands (or Cabals) of demons battle each other. It looks great fun with some interesting mechanics - never mind the thought of all the cool models that can be put on the table!

Last year  an incomplete set of Games Workshop's "Broken Realms" battle boards dropped into my lap. The basic boards looked nice, but the other two special boards are very stylised so I hadn't done anything with them - until now. They will make great boards for this new game.

They've been attacked by a series of spray cans. Halfords Grey primer to base and Halford Camo brown, Humbrol brown and a cheap black primer to darken around the ground cracks. All very quick and easy. Just the GW skulls to deal with in the future.
