Report: Apple ‘nearing’ mass production for M5 MacBook Pros and new Studio Display

According to the latest edition of the Power On newsletter from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a few key Apple products are nearing mass production, ahead of a launch between “the end of the year and the first quarter of next year.” These products include M5 MacBook Air, M5 MacBook Pro, as well as at least one refresh to the Studio Display.

Apple is planning for a busy start to 2026. A new report from Bloomberg details that Apple is working on updates for various iPhone, iPad, and Mac models destined for the first half of 2026.

Perhaps most exciting for many people, however, is that Apple is also planning to release a new external display for the Mac next year.

Gurman: Apple working on multiple versions of second generation Studio Display

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is potentially working on a third generation Studio Display, codenamed J527. This would be a version ahead of the already rumored second generation Studio Display, which is codenamed J427 – but feature advantages of the third generation display are unknown. It’s also plausible that this isn’t a third-generation monitor at all. Let’s discuss.

Report: Apple developing 32-inch and 42-inch external displays with OLED

Apple’s plans to transition most of its product lines to OLED displays have been widely reported on in the past. A new report from analysts at research firm Omdia, however, sheds more light on Apple’s longer-term road map. The 27-inch iMac used to be one of the most popular models in Apple’s line-up, and a lot of people still view them with great affection even today. If you wanted a Mac but didn’t need portability, the machine combined all-in-one simplicity with a beautiful design and a great screen in a decent size.

But the iMac Pro was quietly discontinued in March 2021, with the non-Pro model suffering the same fate a year later. Not everyone was happy about this, and reports of a new iMac Pro persist, but I’m honestly not sure there’s a role for either Pro or non-Pro versions any longer …
