Warriors of Athena: Lakedaimon, founder of Sparta

 

Gods walk among men in mythic Greece. Perhaps some are at least half-human beings, but Lakedaimon was a son of Zeus himself who mated a nymph called Taygete and is therefore not a bit human at all. The miniature started as a wrestler called "The Greek" and Michi knew exactly that he was more than that at first glance. Some conversion work later here is Lakedaimon, founder of Sparta.

Michi hatte diese Wrestlingfigur entdeckt und sofort gewusst, was damit zu tun war. Nach einiger Umbauarbeit ist er fertig: Lakedaimon, Sohn des Zeus und der Nymphe Taigete und der Gründer Spartas.

Warriors of Athena: Horned Minions

 

 

Two Satyrs were painted to accompany or oppose the heroes on their quests in ancient Greece. Both were made by Reaper Miniatures, although the female one was supposed to be a succubus that has been slightly converted by Michi to match the desired role as a goat-legged archer. 

Ein männlicher und ein weiblicher Satyr werden die Helden auf ihren Abenteuern im antiken Griechenland begleiten oder ihnen im Weg sein können. Beide sind von Reaper, wobei der weibliche sein dämonisches Dasein als Succubus begann und durch Michi zu einem zweiten bocksbeinigen Bogenschützen umgebaut wurde.

Warriors of Athena: Death from above

They were supposed to be Succubae, but Michi intends them to be Harpies for mythic Greece. Those who would complain about the lack of feathers shall be told that they can still become Furies instead as soon as proper Harpies will be painted. 

Sie begannen ihr Dasein als Succubae, als sie aus den Formen schlüpften, aber Michi hat sie ihrer ohnehin schon spärlichen Kleidung beraubt, die Frisuren ein bisschen auftoupiert und einer Verwendung als Harpyien im alten Griechenland zugeführt. Denjenigen, die sich über einen Mangel an Federn beschweren, sei gesagt, dass sie später der Gattung der Furien zugeschlagen werden können, sobald die befiederten Exemplare bemalt sind.

 

Warriors of Athena: Sphinx

The Egyptian Sphinx of Giza is famous and widely known, but the Greek had their own. This one started her existence in Egyptian service and became Greek with Michi's help and some Greenstuff. She is the first Reaper Bones miniature ever painted by Michi.

Michi hat aus einer ägyptischen eine griechische Sphinx gemacht: Der ägyptische Schmuck ist gewichen und durch natürlichere Gaben ersetzt worden, die aus Greenstuff geformt wurden. Dies ist die erste Reaper Bones Figur, die Michi bemalt hat.

 

Warriors of Athena: Cyclops

 

Doc had posted his latest efforts for the new "Warriors of Athena" game by Osprey in March and Michi was also painting mythic Greeks ever since he became aware of the game. His copy has arrived meanwhile and so did a lot more miniatures. Here comes the most impressive of them yet: A monstrous Cyclops of huge dimensions and proportions alike. The 3D-print from Collective Studios came in three parts - the base, the monster and the lifted column. Painting was dead easy, it was a return to the first miniature painting techniques that Michi had learned decades ago. Most of the surfaces were drybrushed and washed, only some minor details demanded proper painting in fact. Now this impressive brute towers most miniatures that will appear on the Greek gaming tables of Doc and Michi...

Doc hatte im März hier seine neuesten Anstrengungen für das neue "Warriors of Athena" von Osprey gezeigt. Michi hat ebenfalls begeistert Figuren aus der griechischen Mythologie bemalt, seit er von dem Spiel weiß. Seine Ausgabe ist inzwischen eingetroffen, genau wie eine ganze Menge neuer Miniaturen. Hier ist die bisher beeindruckendste davon: Ein in seinen Ausmaßen und Proportionen monströser Zyklop. Der3D-Druck eines Designs von Collective Studios kam in drei Teilen - dem Sockel, dem Monster und dem hochgehaltenen Säulenbruchstück.Die Bemalung war kinderleicht, denn sie stellt eine Rückkehr zu den ersten von Michi vor Jahrzehnten erlernten Miniaturenbemaltechniken dar. Die meisten Oberflächen wurden graniert und lasiert, nur ein paar der kleineren Details erforderten die Anwendung von Michis üblcher Malweise aus heller werdenden Schichten.

Nun wartet der riesige Zyklop auf die Gegner, welche ihm auf Michis und Docs Spieltischen begegnen werden...

Now that the new “Warriors of Athena” rulebook has been released, here are some of the preparations I've made for it. There will be plenty more content coming in the future.

 

Saga: 1 point ancient Greek Peltasts

 

Brother Vinni did the sculpting and casting, Michi did the painting. Some of the resin miniatures are slightly converted to add variety in doubles. Now they form a group of 12 Peltasts, light Greek infantry for Saga Ancients (levies worth 1 point).
