Cold War Cubans

I was delighted to take on the painting for Miska Miniatures' latest Kickstarter project: Red Dawn Revolution. It features an interesting selection of Cuban troops from the Cold War era.

Anyone interested in this era will find that Cubans offer many exciting options for very different skirmish scenarios. After all, Cuban troops were deployed in South America, Africa, and even the Middle East.

After the infantry, I will paint a Ural truck including six passengers for the project in the coming weeks and present it here.

Operation Mercury

In the fictional South American country of San Sereno, a renowned scientist, Dr. Emilio Ramirez, has been abducted by a guerrilla group known as the Cobras Rojas. Dr. Ramirez holds crucial information about a breakthrough in biochemistry that could change the course of modern medicine. The Prime Minister of San Sereno has contracted a Private Military Company called Sentinel Security Solutions to conduct a rescue operation.

 

Mission Objective: Sentinel Security Solutions is tasked with infiltrating the guerrilla hideout, extracting Dr. Ramirez, and safely escorting him back to the extraction point.

 

Debriefing: The Cobras were caught on the wrong foot, the guards were quickly and effectively eliminated, and the reinforcements that arrived only a short time later were decimated so quickly that those who remained fled. Only one PMC was so badly wounded that he died on the spot despite intensive efforts.

 

It was an unexpectedly quick game, the dice were not very favorable to the rebels, and their significantly inferior equipment did the rest.

 

 

South American Guerrilla

Since it is supposed to be an irregular troop, a motley crew of fighters, I decided against an identical color scheme. Instead, I tried to use current camouflage patterns used in Latin America and clothing colors of various rebel groups of the last decades.

For the photo background, I experimented for the first time with texture rollers on air-drying clay to get a jungle-temple look.

The HAZMAT Team

HAZMAT team to disinfect the bodies of a failed mission and vaccinate those who discovered the corpses. There were rumors that the dead were coming back to life in this neighborhood. Further research by a special unit is required. The district is under lockdown.

 

Private Military Contractors

In co-operation with 'Black Hills Games' I painted a unit of Private Military Contractors and a HVT that they have to protect.

The STLs of the miniatures were provided by 'Black Hills Games' and printed on a Mars2Pro.

To Serve and Protect

The New Rattlesnake Police Department has been fully manned just in time to watch over citizen protests against the bio lab outside the city limits. Unfortunately, in addition to the protests, reports of missing persons are increasing in the district.

All minis are 3D resin prints.

Police officers STL are from Albino Raven Miniatures with some head swaps from Anvil Digital.

Civilians STL kits are from Anvil Digital, assembled in BLENDER.

 

3D printed Walls and Floors

In 2021, I backed a Kickstarter project: "Loot-A-Shack" by Alexandros Stamateas. 3D printable terrain parts suitable for various modern wargaming genres.

Only two years later, I finally got around to taking a closer look at the extensive files and possibilities. Here are a few test prints, which I also magnetized with 3mm magnets so that the parts can be assembled modularly.

Printed with resin on an Elegoo Mars2Pro. About 6 wall and floor elements fit on one printing plate.

Printing was trouble free, painting takes a little longer than I thought due to the beautiful details. But it is a lot of fun.
