Finished: 3mm Warhound Scout Titans

Hi folks,

Having finished with all the rebasing, I've decided to clear off some of the projects that have been sitting on my painting shelf over the winter.

I also based up a 10mm fantasy Lizardman army given to me by Pete for my For Joshua project. More on this later.

These two 3mm scale Warhound Scout Titans are 3d prints from a friend. I've had these for a while now, having finished the other two I had a couple of years back. Another set of models I had built up in my head to being a big issue to paint, that I completed basically over the weekend.

I took effort to match these in with my other two, giving me a nice pack of Warhounds:

These fit in well with my other Titans (a couple of 3d printed Reavers, and a few 3mm scale Stalkers from Vanguard Miniatures).

I've a few more models to do for this Titan force, including some 3d printed larger brutes. I've also still some Vanguard Miniatures models to do. However, those may be used to start off the opposition. I'll have a think.

These are painted up as Legio Praesagius Titans. I really should try and get a game of Adeptus Titanicus with these guys!

Finished: 3mm Ultramar Auxilia tanks

Hi folks,

Another diversion from what I should be painting, but something I had wanted to do for a while. These are 3mm Vanguard Miniatures tanks, proxying as the Ultramar version of the Imperial Army for my Calth collection.

First, some fluff:

“Ultramar, the realm of the Ultramarines Legion and part of the greater Imperium, consists of a sub sector of approximately five hundred habitable planets. Ruled over by Roboute Guilliman, the Primarch of the Ultramarines Legion, this realm is regarded as one of the most prosperous, efficient and advanced regions of space in the whole Imperium.

While the realm of Ultramar is exempt from the normal tithe of military units expected from worlds of the Imperium, the realm itself maintains many regiments ready for deployment outside of Ultramar.

The CCIXth Ultramar Auxilia Regiment is one such formation.

The Regiment is a combined arms force consisting of detachments from many Ultramar planets, each adding mastery of their own speciality to the whole. Comprising many tens of thousands of highly trained Auxilia the CCIXth included sub units of infantry, armour, artillery and various support arms. It should be noted that the term 'regiment' is not associated with a particular size of formation, and is more the generic name for a particular body of troops.

As part of Ultramar’s muster of force ordered by Warmaster Horus (supposedly for operation against an anticipated incursion of Orks in the Veridian system), the CCIXth was deployed to Calth alongside numerous other Imperial Army, Titan Legion, Skitarii and Knight units - as well as the Ultramarine Legion and the Word Bearers Legion. With barrack space being at a premium, the Regiment found itself billeted amongst several small settlements on the Northern Continent. In honour of the hospitality they had received, and prior to donning campaign appropriate camouflage schemes, the CCIXth’s vehicles were painted in colours representing the heraldry of the local principality.
On the day of the Betrayal, when the traitors of the Word Bearer Legion and their allies struck, this particular armoured detachment of the CCIXth found themselves without communications with either Regimental or Planetary Command. Initially assuming a planetary attack by an unknown foe, the armoured element took up positions to defend their billets. In time they linked up with units from the Ultramarines Legion, Adeptus Mechanicus Skitarii, Legio Praesagius Titans, other Auxilia Regiment and Knight detachments in order to take part in the fighting on the Plains of Dera against the betrayers – by then the previous well-maintained farmland had been turned to wasteland due to the host of powerful weapons unleashed.

Surviving elements of the CCIXth eventually made their way into the underground shelters following the Word Bearers poisoning of the Calth Systems sun and evacuation of the planets surface. There they continued to battle against surviving Word Bearer forces, protecting the remaining sheltering civilians. After years of fighting in the Underground War, the few survivors went on to form a new CCIXth Regiment.”

With some Vanguard Stalkers for scale

Vanguard 'Centurion' MBTs. Proxying here for early 'Gantz' pattern Leman Russ tanks.

A few of Vanguards 'Heavy' tanks to reinforce the company.

Mixed in with the recent Ultramarine proxy detachment - also Vanguard 3mm models.

The very small, and the very large...

We fight for Macragge!
This little lot help me complete the Challenge Island final location, for which Dave has made me a lovely burning Sherman, complete with flickering LED!

Finished: 3mm Terminator Detachment

Hi folks,

Another quick post - looking back I can see I've fallen a bit behind on my posts recently, focusing more on getting stuff done for the AHPC entries.

This recent entry consisted of some lovely Vanguard 3mm Novan Elite Siege Breakers and Striker Heavy Assault Transports. These have been painted up as 40k Ultramarines for my Calth project.

Three stands of Terminators along with Spartan transports. I can switch out the Spartans for other options as well, hopefully.

A nice little addition to the collection which also ticked off a challenge island location for the competition.

Finished!: 3mm Titans and Duxford

Hi folks,

A bit of a delay since my last post. A mix of being on holiday and not painting a huge amount.

After the last batch of WW2 mini's, I decided to do something a bit more arty and unusual, so started work on a couple of 3mm scale 3D printed titans acquired last year. I used some of the Vanguard Stalker arms, which with a bit of whittling I got to fit. These have been painted up in a similar style as the Vanguard Cybershadow 3mm Stalkers I previously did. These are in my version of the Legio Praesagius colour scheme.

I used some 40k decals I picked up on the cheap to add some interest.

I'm not sure they look too great in the pictures, but they look a lot better on the table. I've now got 6 of these 'medium' scale robots, which I plan to use for Vanguards own rules and a 3mm version of Titanicus.

Painting wise, that's been it. I think the potential house move in September has put a bit of a dampener on my painting mojo. I've not mentioned it here previously, but in addition to the move, I'm going to be a dad again in the autumn. Suffice to say all this is having an impact on what else is happening with my time! I am planning to clear some of the stuff on my painting desk before the move though.

This year for holidays we were down on the south coast, in Hastings.

79 years ago, you might have been able to watch the RAF and Luftwaffe tussle high in the sky above the channel here.

As you can see, the weather was rather changeable!

I did go on a visit to Battle, the supposed site of the Battle of Hastings. Bit of a waste of time and money, to be honest. I didn't find the information available about the battle particularly interesting (in all honesty, the Bannockburn museum was smaller and far more interesting and interactive). I was particularly annoyed to find, having paid the extortionate entry fee, that a large part of the abbey is a private school with no access to visitors. Money goes to money I suppose.

On the journey down to Hastings, I had the opportunity to stop by a proper museum in the form of the Imperial War Museum at Duxford. Properly cool (although a very warm day)! Here I had the joy of a Mustang and a Hurricane being towed past me as I walked through the museum. I took so many pictures by phone died. Some pictures below:

My mothers dad did his national service in Scotland as an armourer in the RAF. He served over by Stranraer (Wig Bay, I think), which at the time was a base for post war Sunderland Flying Boats.

Another planning map from WW2 - I can't remember what operation this was for. The maps are 3d reliefs, which was pretty cool.

The Mustang in RAF Invasion markings which was towed past me. I have a cool video of that!

PR Spit? Late mark, I think.

Later mark Spit. There were a lot of these!

Earlier Battle of Britain Spit.

The sweet looking Hurricane which I filmed being towed past. I think this took off later but I missed it as I was in one of the hangers.

For my own reference, an artillery tank LCT(A)
Whilst on holiday I picked up a book on the 8th Airforce and one for Dave on the rise and fall of the Mahdi's. I managed to build 3 M5A3 Stuarts for my Poles, along with several 28mm Necromunda Goliaths. Back to work this week though...
