It's weird being 48 (closer to 49!).
Not sure how I feel about it.

(This time there are several stories and accompanying rambles)
Thank you to anyone who indulges me for a little time.

It's even weirder listening back over what was an impromptu, improvised, bass and vocals jam session in one of Eiger Studios (a place I worked) rehearsal rooms (August 8th 2018), then upon rediscovering it, seeing the timeline of it in your own life, the day before playing a major festival!

That thought then started me looking back to age of 16 (1993), still a shy kid, just getting started in college, first band, going to festivals, been going to gigs and buying records a few years, but, still didn't know much, about anything, not really, not in the grander scheme of things, and certainly wasn't planning for a future...

...but maybe, probably definitely we don't need to, not at that age, we just need to think we know to be able to be confident enough in ourselves to get out of bed and do something, anything, to find out what the something more is in the universe, to see more to then be able to educate yourself more, to understand and to comprehend... THEN to be able to put all that learning into motion for that 'something more' you were looking for before.

Cover is the music demon Murmur, which is tattooed on my right arm, done (drawn and inked) by Eryn Iley, around the same time of the recording. The other segment of it is a different tattoo, but mystified to form stormy atmospheres.

I then checked my personal gig list and we (Hundred Year Old Man) travelled and played at Bloodstock Festival on August 9th 2018.

So, just me and bass and distortion pedal (none of the other pedals at this time), in a dark rehearsal room one afternoon, probably drunk, on a rare occasion jamming with a microphone set up. I don't think I was shouting anything philosophical, or anything at all. Just making noises, but, it obviously got a lot out of the system!

Well, this jam was not just me, gotta include the heavy influences and edges of khanate, sloth hammer, mammoth weed wizard bastard, primitive man, various other filthy raw sounding fuzzed up sludge, doom, death and black metal that has possessed me over the years.

I am happy and able to let go of this session that definitely inspired The Owl project in the first place. It was two weeks before the jam session that was used for early Owl releases, and was from a truly crazy period of my life (I could probably write a full chapter or more just about that month!).

I wasn't going to add more to this track, but in following months added two - 'Choking' just played around with parts of the jam, and 'Breathe' was expanded from some of its vibrations, with later added synth.

For 'Breathe Hell's Embers', I was thinking along the lines of the self-resurrecting Phoenix bird story, in how the energy's build and warmer smoother ambient sunrise sounds arise from the rubble of the broken noise walls.
