A poem almost like a Christmas card In the snow, which is ripe for attack black stilts stretch as the leaves turn yellow in October the west like the trees of the old avenue The blood of the sun runs down the snow and the frozen landscape a reddened river without banks and slowly falls asleep without fish Just a long chain black tracks tearing snow who went there? happiness or the grave found in drifts? While everywhere was burning in the stove with a sweaty face fall into the snow the spring fragrance breathed on me as the ground beneath his body began to melt It was good theater looking through the glass as he was alone I've been having trouble sleeping lately So little snow fell and me who is behind the glass in the heat there is little hope left that at all sometimes the wind through the snow those black tracks will blow away

about

This is a live improvised solo interpretation of a poem by Václav Hrabě called 'Báseň skoro jako vánoční pohlednice' ('A poem almost like a Christmas card'), performed to 'an audience seated at tables with candles' in Klub Futra, Orlová on January 11th, 2025

Also playing this night were inspiring friends Zintaer and Teh(A)nu.
Their sets were followed by the collaboration piece to close the very nice, darkly calm, experimental Winter evening.

I used synth to laptop, bass to pedals,
with a film I made playing in the background
part of which is included in the download with audio from the set, along with a bundle of photos of the evening from myself, Valdemar Bednarz (who took the cover photo) and Richard Kutěj.

In hindsight, I left the synth drone sound decaying for a little too long as the bass notes, swirls and tunes began to build up, but other than that, I was very pleased with this piece, as a full journey with ebbs and flows, with its two sets of riff heavy elements of tension and release during its course.

It is still nervewracking to perform solo, given that most of the three decades of live performances has been with bands, so I can hide away and just play if my brain is in that mode. There is less of a hiding place when you are on your own, but I am happy I still found a way to immerse into what I was playing and the atmosphere of the room at the same time, and hopefully this serves as an interesting sonic and visual documentation of the evening for those that weren't there.

Zvukoprostor #2 will be on December 12th, 2025, again in Klub Futra, Orlová, with a new concept and poem for a different selection of players (including myself) to make audio and visual interpretations.
No doubt another recording will be made!
