A Terraria server is a shared online world where several players explore, build and fight together in real time. Unlike a solo game, it stays reachable remotely through an IP address. Each server has its own rules, game mode and community that shape the whole experience.

Launch Terraria, choose Play, your character, then Multiplayer and Join via IP. Enter the server IP address and port (7777 by default), plus a password if required. Your game version must match the server version, otherwise the connection will be refused and you cannot enter.

On a PvE (player versus environment) server, players cooperate against monsters and bosses without being able to hurt each other. On a PvP (player versus player) server, fights are allowed, solo or in colour teams. PvP is toggled individually, but each server usually sets its own rule.

Yes, partially since update 1.4.5, released on 27 January 2026: PC and mobile players can now play together, notably by joining the same dedicated servers. Crossplay with consoles is going through certification and will arrive next. tModLoader mods, however, remain exclusive to the PC version.
