Bits and pieces

Several people have posted recently, saying that it is difficult to find anything much to write about. I find the same, but that is linked to my inability to go anywhere, not being able to drive, or do very much.

What does one write about?

Well, I had a CT scan this week. It's an odd sensation having dye injected and feeling the warmth running through your body. I kept my eyes firmly shut, except for the odd peek at the heart monitor which went up and down according to my anxiety levels.

This week a very nice open air tea room nearby is opening, and I'm hoping to go with a friend for a cup of tea, and maybe a cake!

In the garden my Delphiniums are growing tall and strong. I wish I could remember where I originally bought them as they have been the best I ever had.

There's a pretty red  Sparaxis brightening the garden.

Roses are beginnng to bloom. I wonder if their very healthy leaves are due to the lack of pollution last year. The scent of these Golden Gate roses permeates the whole room.

I'm having my bedroom redecorated. It's the one room in the house that has not been touched since we moved here eight years ago, apart from removing the Anaglypta paper and giving it a quick coat of paint.
I feel a need for a calm and relaxing room at the moment, so there will be blues and white involved.
I'll show you when it's finished.

The Hawthorn tree

It's such a joy to see the May blossom out. The Hawthorn trees are full of creamy white flowers, in hedgerows and in gardens. We once had a pink version which was very pretty.

Did you know that it is supposed to bring bad luck to have the branches in the house? I didnt, until years ago I picked some to mix with lilac, and was told by my neighbour that it would be unlucky. I'm afraid i took little notice, and the vase of blossom looked beautiful!

I always thought, as a child, that the bright green leaves looked edible, though I dont think I tried them. They can be eaten and were sometimes called 'Bread and cheese'.
The blossom and the berries (Haws) can be used to make jellies.

On a hill overlooking Glastonbury there is a Thorn tree which is supposedly descended from the original Holy Thorn. Legend has it that Joseph of Arimathea came to the hill, thrust his staff into the earth, and a Thorn tree sprouted. Strangely this tree blooms twice , once in May and once at Christmas.

For me, it's just one of the loveliest signs of Spring, a hedge overflowing with abundant creamy blossom.

GeeSeven

GeeSeven, one of the latest works from Sir Tim Rice.

Filmed in Truro Cathedral, with the young Choristers.

It's different, it contains some interesting thoughts about the number 7, and was written for children, to make the  G7 Summit more relevant to them. The plan is for thousands of schoolchildren  in different countries to sing this during the G7 summit later in the year ,working together as part of a programme called Sing2G7.

In the Summer, Cornwall will be hosting the G7 Summit meeting in a seaside village called Carbis Bay.

I can't imagine the amount of security there will have to be , with world leaders taking part..

Carbis Bay hotel.

The old ways

Talking to my Dr yesterday, I mentioned that my appetite had disappeared, which is sad, as I do love good food. His suggestion was to drin...
