Read the short version
We wrote this to be useful, not mysterious. The sections below explain the details in plain language.
1. What this policy covers
This policy covers cookies and similar browser technologies used by ViewPilot, including local storage and session storage. These technologies can remember information on your device or read information previously stored there.
2. Our current approach
ViewPilot uses browser storage and short-lived cookies for sign-in, security, checkout continuity, onboarding, interface preferences, and usage insights. Usage insights help us understand product interactions, measure performance, diagnose errors, build heatmaps, and create privacy-masked session replays.
We show a short notice when usage insights are enabled. You can turn them off at any time in the controls below; doing so stops optional event capture and session replay. ViewPilot does not use advertising cookies or sell analytics data for cross-site advertising.
3. Technologies we use
Authentication session
Keeps you signed in and stores the account context needed to open protected workspace pages.
Local storage · until sign-out, removal, or expiry
Request protection
Helps distinguish legitimate browser requests, reduce automated abuse, and bind short-lived security challenges.
Essential cookie and session storage · short-lived or current tab session
Checkout continuity
Remembers a pending plan and checkout selection while you sign in or return from the next step.
Local storage · until checkout completes or the saved selection is cleared
Channel onboarding
Carries a channel selection through account creation so onboarding can continue after sign-in.
Local storage · until onboarding completes or the saved selection is cleared
Theme preference
Remembers your chosen interface appearance on dashboard and account pages.
Local storage · until you change it or clear browser data
Usage-insights preference
Remembers whether this device turned optional usage insights on or off.
Local storage · until you change it or clear browser data
PostHog product analytics
When accepted, links page visits and product events, measures performance, diagnoses errors, builds heatmaps, and records privacy-masked session replays so we can improve ViewPilot.
Optional cookie and local storage · until turned off, subject to the configured PostHog retention period
4. Third-party services
PostHog processes optional usage insights for ViewPilot unless you turn them off using the controls below. When you leave ViewPilot for a payment provider or interact with another connected third-party service, that provider may use its own cookies or similar technologies under its privacy and cookie policies. ViewPilot does not control storage placed directly by those services.
5. Your controls
Most browsers let you inspect, block, or delete cookies and site data. You can also clear ViewPilot's local and session storage through your browser settings. Browser controls vary, so consult your browser's help documentation for exact steps.
Blocking essential storage may prevent sign-in, protected requests, checkout, onboarding, or saved interface settings from working correctly.
Usage insights: loading
When usage insights are on, we can understand what works, find problems sooner, and improve your experience. You can change this anytime.
6. Security signals
ViewPilot may process technical browser and device signals to protect public and authenticated requests. These signals are used for security and abuse prevention, not for advertising or cross-site profiling.
7. Changes and contact
We may update this policy when our browser-storage practices change. The latest version and date will remain available here. For questions about cookies or privacy, contact support@viewpilot.gg.
