Sparatacus (slave revolt) vs Barbarian.. Hordes of the Things in action on the table top again

Aha... another evening with a couple of HotT games with Andy. He brought over his Sparatacus (slave revolt) and Undead armies. Here's the battle between his Sparatacus army and my Barbarian army.

The Barbarian army was:

1 x Hero general
1 x knight
2 x behemoth (mammoths)
1 x knight
5 x warband

Andy's Sparatacus army:
1 x Hero general
6 x horde
4 x blade
1 x beasts
2 x riders

Sparatacus himself

Beasts.. urrgghhhh
Barbarian hero general flanked by a behemoth

The initial Barbarian charge is repelled

One of the mammoth behemoth is recoiled

The warband on the barbarian right are not making any headway at all

Finally a gap.. the beasts fall to the warband

The Slave revolt riders come around the flank

The Barbarian general eliminates a blde

It's getting messy

The barbarians try to carve through the slave bldes

Meanwhile a now isolated warband tries to hold up the flank

A blade is destroyed by the behemoth

An dthe general moves to the rear to threaten another bldae, but the blade repels the behemoth/knight attack

The barbarian general fights for his life, attacked front and flank, he repels the attack

The slave hordes are successfully tying up the barbarian left

Another slave blade element is destroyed

The left flank behemoth starts a pushing match with a horde, slowly pushing it back,. We suspected the horde was luring the mammoth towards the lava pit.. BBQ anyone?

Ouch .. that was the barbarian general finally succumbing

Two barbarian warband are destroyed, and with the loss of the general that's it.. all over

A great game, all credit to Andy as he stuck to the task, despite some appalling PIP die rolling a times.  We followed this with a game in which Andy's Undead took down my Orc army..  two great games .. and yes there were sausage rolls!!

Turtenkop's nightmare: Orks and Chaos align

It was what the civilised peoples of the west had most feared. It was the thing that made King Tutenkap's blood run cold. He had successfully forced his way past the barbarian peoples of the steppes, and the Chief Dumnoriox had fled to the remotest corners of the steppe to lick his wounds.

But this was something else. This was the sort of thing that left Tutenkap sweating despite the cold winds that came off the steppe. Before him were arrayed the clamouring hordes of the first of the Ork races that he had encountered. But allied with them were elements of the forces of Chaos. These heinous beings stood in silence, awaiting the commencement of battle. Their power could be felt resonating through the ground, and an eerie howl swept cross the intervening ground, drowning out even the mad clamour of the Ork fighters.

The Ork right wing with trolls and mammoths arrayed as behemoths

The centre was held by Orc chariots, lead by the Ork CnC, supported by a mad Ork aerial hero, who had attracted the support of two Chaos Harpie flyers

The left was the domain of Chaos, with a Chaos Hero supported by Chaos dismounted knights/blades. Dragons soared through the air awaiting the chance to descend upon the Egyptian warriors.

The Ork general lead his chariots forward in a frenetic charge against the Egyptian blade.

Ork warband charged headfirst into Egyptian warriors and undead behemoths

The behemoths and Ork blade charged into Egyptian bow, and behemoth. Egyptian chariots (knights awaited their chance)

The chariots charge in

Action is hot in the centre

The behemoths stomp through the chariot/knights

The Ork aerial hero charges in to attack Tutenkap himself, and Tutenkap is disabled and flees the field

The Chaos blade cut their way through the Egyptian spear
With Tutenkap disabled the heart has gone from the Egyptian army and the battle is lost.

This was an odd game. It lasted 5 turns. The match ups that I achieved with the Orks in particular meant that the Egyptians were always on the back foot. Andy's game was not helped by that succession of 1's on both PIP and combat dice.

However it was a great game. What will Tutenkop do now as he continues with his attempts to expand his empire?

Dumnorix sallies south

Pushing past the Turkish forces had been easy. Evading rather than confronting the Turkish (and British) forces had been easier than he'd believed, and so here he was entering the land of the Egyptian, a land of great necromancers, a land purportedly raised up by mysterious visitors from the skies. Here was a chance to create legends, a chance to carve eternity into the legends of the peoples of the north.

And so Dumnorix surveyed the scene as his forces arrayed against the armed might of the mystical Egyptians.

Andy and I managed a Big Battle HotT army ...  it must be summer holidays.

Initial deployment, Semi historical Egyptian forces  on the left face up to the intruders, the Barbarian hordes from the north.

Egyptian blade backed up by their knight general

Egyptian archers, with their alien commander in mysterious flying saucer, supported by smaller flyers

Huge feline behemoth supports the Egyptian blade

Dumnorix' warband warriors supported by Mammoth behemoth, and riders from the east

The stomp of giant trolls made the very ground shake

Another troll, supporting knights from the north

The alien presence overflies the barbarian line as the forces advance to contact

Dumnorix' left, only intended to hold. Dumnorix had decided not to contest the woods ion the centre

The centres

Dumnorix had managed to concentrate significant force on his right, against a weakened Egyptian left, knights supported by riders and trolls

The centres clash, lines of warband charge in against Egyptian spear

On Dumnorix' left

Dumnorix himself detaches from his line and attacks the alien CnC

However Dumnorix is bested... his bodyguard destroyed. Where is Dumnorix? Will he survive?

Dumnorix' left is whittled down, the warband falling to the Egyptian blade!!

On the right, Dumnorix has the Egyptians outmanoeuvred and outnumbered ... but the command is starved of PIPs

The aline CnC attacks Dumnorix' right flank from the rear

There is much pushing and shoving in the centre, warband vs spear

The centre/right is fully engaged

Dumnorix' left is bested

And in the centre the 'argy bargy' continues

The alien CnC is eliminated buy the hero general commanding Dumnorix' right

Who then also eliminates one of the supporting flyers

The centre still pushing and shoving... please, where are your manners? Less pushing and shoving ..

But Dumnorix' riders and knights are not fairing well on his right

Trolls and knights begin to get stuck in to the Egyptian spear centre

But there's not much left of the demoralised barbarian left

Finally the Barbarian God appears on the left, but too little, too late

Still going in the centre

More casualties on the barbarian right

It's still all on, in the centre

But there is little left of the demoralised command on the left

The Barbarians are making progress in the centre

The right is fraught..
But finally Dumnorix' hordes, missing their great leader who had been escorted from the battlefield sorely pressed, fled the field. The army had taken 50% casualties, and more than the Egyptians. This was not to be the time for creating new legends for Dumnorix... but that time would still come.

This was a great Big Battle HotT game in which my Barbarians had faced off against Andy's Semi Historical Egyptians...

The armies are all 20/25mm figures, from a range of manufacturers.

Vikings and Saxons...

The week finished with a series of DBA games at Keiths at which we used my Saxons and Vikings.  Other armies deployed during the evening (a...
