It has a crafty and cunning disposition; instead of actively fighting on its own, it employs aquatic Digimon of a lower Level than itself by brainwashing them. It shares many similarities with Marin Angemon, such as its appearance and the fact that it is rarely ever seen, but the relationship between the two remains unknown. Its Special Move "Ocean Hell", in which it steals the opponent's fighting spirit with an aura of endless terror akin to the darkness of the ocean depths, sometimes reduces the Digimon that suffer this technique to being Cthyllamon's puppets.
