Outer Dungeons
The Outer Dungeons (アウターダンジョン Autā Danjon) are special areas in Digimon Story: Time Stranger. They are areas within phase electron space that are scattered across the world. According to Minervamon, they exist between the Real World and Digital World: Iliad.
They appear as floating, red, diamond-like objects in the Real and Digital Worlds. By interacting with them, people can enter the Outer Dungeons. All Outer Dungeons are psychedelic in nature, with flashy colours and moving cubes that form their layouts. The Digimon in them are usually aggressive and can be fought.

Outer Dungeons from Ages Past[edit]
The Outer Dungeon from Ages Past are special Outer Dungeons. They contain extremely difficult trials that are optional for Yuki Dan/Yuki Kanan, but give many rewards upon being cleared. Unlike story-based Outer Dungeons, Outer Dungeons from Ages Past are entered in a registry once documented, allowing the Agent to enter them as many times as they want by talking to Mikagura Mirei in the Threshold Theater. They are unlocked and made visible after defeating the three Black Tailmon in the main mission "A World in Another Dimension".
The Outer Dungeons from Ages Past were created by an unknown human developer who got lost in the Digital World before the Agent. As he owed much to Digimon, he set up games for them to play. As none of them had been cleared before by Digimon, he allowed a human being to try as well. These games can be accessed by interacting with giant virtual pets, which then give a mission to the Agent.
Unlike normal Outer Dungeons, the Outer Dungeons from Ages Past have far more muted colour palettes and their designs are plain and solid.
All Outer Dungeons of Ages Past have the following rules. The only exception are the Speed is Victory challenges, which does not contain any combat at all.
- The player is forbidden from switching Digimon or using items, meaning that all combat must be done with a team of 3. The reserve slots still count for the purpose of DigiAttacks whenever possible, however.
- The DigiRide function is not available.
- The player might restart the level through the options menu, usually if things go awry. This does not apply to the Speed is Victory challenge.
- Escaping from battle is impossible and it is replaced by the Give Up button.
- Aegiomon cannot participate.
The unlocking/clearing progress of all Outer Dungeons are reset on each playthrough.
