Digimon Story: Time Stranger Prelude[edit]

While not appearing directly in the short, Aegiomon's Digitama was dropped into the human world through a Digital rift three years prior to the events of the game, and rogue Digimon were summoned all over Shinjuku (all of which were heavily implied to be caught in Junomon's rage over losing Aegiomon's Digitama). It was picked up by Misono Yuta. When Titamon killed him during a clash with Justimon, Junomon herself appeared to retrieve it, and it was put back in the Temple of Beginnings.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger[edit]

Aegiomon is known as the "Great Guardian" of Iliad and is the Digimon partner of Misono Inori, who treated him as a substitute for her deceased brother Misono Yuta. Some time ago, Chronomon rebelled against Homeostasis and failed, and was imprisoned in Iliad's very system itself. Eventually, Chronomon succumbed to despair and desires death, and he created Aegiomon's Digitama so the resulting Digimon would slay him and free him from his misery. The egg was taken under custody by Junomon before it hatched in the human world.

To motivate Aegiomon further, Chronomon influenced and manipulated a series of tragedies, preferably so that he will fall into the same despair as he once did and destroy him and the entire world altogether. In at least one timeline, Aegiomon succumbed completely to despair and grief over losing Inori and evolved into Jupitermon: Wrath Mode, who collided with Chronomon's vessel, the Giant Slayer and destroyed the entire world in an event known as the Shinjuku Inferno. In his quest to find Inori back, he also left numerous "shadow" copies of himself across timelines and disrupted time itself. Eventually, Homeostasis realized that Aegiomon was disrupting the time-space continuum itself and turned one of his shadow copies into the Agent Dan/Kanan, who was modeled after a character from Agent Alpha, Yuta's favorite anime, to break the loop he created.

When the Agent was first manifested, he witnessed an Aegiomon shadow approaching Inori and the Giant Slayer trying to attack her. Jupitermon: Wrath Mode then appeared from a rift and collided with the Giant Slayer, destroying the entire world and throwing the Agent 8 years back in time, within the Temple of Beginnings. There, another Aegiomon shadow attempts to destroy his own Digitama (likely an attempt to commit suicide out of despair). It was stopped from doing so by the Agent, who drops Aegiomon's Digitama into the human world.

Eventually, the egg hatched into an a non-sapient Elecmon that was bullied by other Digimon living inside the waterway. It was spotted by Inori during a streaming session she had with her friend Sagisaka Hiroko, who nursed it and named it "Coo-chan". "Coo-chan" escapes during an encounter with a hostile Raremon, prompting the Agent to team up with Inori and Hiroko to pursue it and find it back. Their chase for "Coo-chan" eventually brings them to the water reservoir where they are attacked by a Titan Cyclomon. At the middle of the battle, "Coo-chan" evolves into Aegiomon, gains sapience and helps the Agent defeat it, and Aegiomon has became Inori's Digimon partner since.

Because of the strange features Aegiomon has, Kosuke dressed him up like Yuta to disguise him as a normal human instead of a Digimon, complete with a beanie hat to hide his horns. This does not work for long, as after a battle against two Vademon who were trying to devour a pair of children Aegiomon befriended, the beanie hat slips off, causing the children to realize that he is a monster and distance themselves away from him. On that night, Inori consoled him on the rooftop and vowed to him that she will always be with him.

A week into staying in the mostly peaceful Shinjuku, Hiroko roped Inori and the Agent into another stream where they will investigate a "mysterious shadow" (an Aegiomon clone) appearing inside the Shinjuku subway. Hiroko faints from shock after witnessing the shadow and the party takes the opportunity to give chase and were joined by Minervamon. Their chase eventually leads them to the place where the Egg of the Great Guardian hatched, at which Aegiomon confirms that he is the Great Guardian. At the meantime, Titamon appears and attacks the party. Regardless if Titamon is defeated or not, the digital rift he opened traps the party in the Digital World.

Inside the Digital World, Aegiomon and Inori accompanies the Agent in their adventure, suppressing the Titans who were threatening its safety in exchange for them returning back to their own world. They eventually were allowed to gain an audience with the oracle Junomon, who compliments Aegiomon and addresses him as the Great Guardian, and makes a deal with the party where they will suppress the Titans in the Abyss Area and the Gear Forest in exchange for going back home. When they do suppress all of the Titans and return to Junomon however, they find that her palace is under attack as well. They defeat the Titans invading the Guardian Palace, but at the meantime Titamon invades the Palace personally and knocks Junomon down. Junomon asks the party to leave with the treasure so she can have Aegiomon all for herself, but he refuses, citing that Inori and the human world meant way more than his role as the Great Guardian of Iliad. The rejection sends Junomon into a violent rage and she proceeded to unintentionally summon the nearby Titans, alongside other rogue Digimon across the Digital World into the human world. Aegiomon and the Agent jump into the portal as Inori was sucked in. On the way between the worlds, Aegiomon's resolve to protect his partner allowed him to evolve into Aegiochusmon.

Fighting their way against rogue Digimon rampaging across Shinjuku and assisting Public Secrurity in suppressing them, Aegiomon, Inori and Yuki reaches Chronomon's Treasure only for it to be claimed by Titamon. Despite they manage to defeat him, the treasure explodes and destroys the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building while Aegiomon comes into contact with it and gains its powers, allowing him to time travel. He uses this ability to save Inori and Yuki from being killed in Ranamon's schemes in the Abyss Area and save its guardians Venusmon and Neptunemon. After saving Bacchusmon and Sirenmon as well, he became confident in his abilities and even told Inori that he might be able to create a timeline where her mother and brother will come back to life. Furthermore, after respectively saving the Abyss Area and the Gear Forest, he gains his Aegiochusmon: Blue and Aegiochusmon: Green forms.

His joy did not last however, as in an ill-fated attempt to convince Misono Kosuke to stop the Giant Slayer's deployment, Inori and Aegiomon encounter the Shinjuku Inferno and the former was sealed inside a space-time rift. Seeing that he failed to save Inori, Aegiomon Dark Evolved into Aegiochusmon: Dark and began his cross-timeline rampage. He was later found by the Agent while they are trying to save Vulcanusmon, telling them that he mastered his time traveling powers and that he has succumbed to despair upon realizing that he is merely a piece in Chronomon's schemes. Before he is about to reveal Yuki as his other self however, he vanishes and allows the protagonist to time travel for real. He encounters the protagonist again in what appears to be an Outer Dungeon in "The Cycle of Time" where their true identity was revealed to be an Aegiochusmon: Dark clone modified by Homeostasis into its agent. They manage to convince him to give up his past and alongside the countless other shadow clones of Aegiochusmon: Dark, they evolve into Jupitermon and reenact the Shinjuku Inferno with the city intact. After Mode Changing into Jupitermon: Wrath Mode, they fight the Giant Slayer in a space created by Grace Novamon.

Jupitermon: Wrath Mode is the only playable Digimon in the fight against the Giant Slayer during "The Cycle of Time". During this fight, it is level 99 and his stats are fixed to a certain parameter regardless of what level Aegiomon was before and only the Attack command can be selected. Selecting it, however, will cause Jupitermon: Wrath Mode to use his special moves (Keraunos Divide and Dios Thunder), for no MP cost. The battle speed is fixed to 1x regardless of any setting adjusted prior to or during the battle. The battle is a scripted event, so it is impossible to lose and all of the attacks dealt by both combatants do fixed damage.

Jupitermon: Wrath Mode manages to defeat it, but the injuries they sustained forced it to split back into the Agent and Aegiomon. They successfully save Inori afterwards and alongside countless other Digimon and Kuroi Shota, the pilot of the Giant Slayer, the trio were dragged into the Akashic Records to slay Chronomon.

Inori's pleas for Aegiomon to come back to her manifested itself as the Holy Light Data Fragment, allowing Aegiomon to evolve into his Aegiochusmon: Holy form. Assisted by numerous Digimon, they eventually end up on Ceresmon's back and drop down for the final battle against Chronomon. During the battle, Chronomon devolves all of Yuki's Digimon with Chrono Devolution, but Aegiomon uses his time powers to counter it, evolving their Digimon back stage-by-stage. During the final part of the fight, Aegiomon fuses with the Agent back to Jupitermon once again and slay Chronomon once and for all.

However, as the time-space continuum continues to collapse, Jupitermon realizes that he cannot be with Inori anymore and has to take the role as the new Great Guardian and warden of time. Inori tearfully parts with him believing that she has truly lost everything. Jupitermon vanishes into the space-time rift and splits back into Aegiomon and the protagonist. Aegiomon sends them back to the human world, telling them to watch over Inori in his place, and assures that he will take over operations in the Digital World from now on. Aegiomon, as Jupitermon, then creates a new timeline where the Digital Gates never opened, meaning that all the tragedies and suffering Chronomon did on the human world were undone, and Inori's mother and younger brother was alive.

It was then revealed that Aegiomon can evolve himself into Jupitermon without fusing with the protagonist, and he has remained in this form since then. After the credits, he and the other members of the Olympos XII vow to spread the group's name far and wide. If the player loads a cleared save, the protagonist's past counterpart might challenge him as Jupitermon, alongside his subordinates to gauge their strength.

Another Dimension[edit]

Misono Inori and Aegiomon from another timeline were attacked by Parallelmon in the train station and were warped into the Akashic Backdoor as a result. They join the Agent on the first DLC while dealing with a rogue Mirage Gaogamon.

Unlike in the base game, Aegiomon is a standard guest NPC, meaning that he is CPU-controlled and lacks an HP/SP bar. He has the attachment skills Guard Break, Saint Knuckle III and Shine Burst III, and has the signature moves Attract Echo and Stun Beat Blow.

Gameplay[edit]

Partner Aegiomon has his own mechanics unique from the player's other Digimon. The details are as follows:

  • Aegiomon joins the party midway while fighting Cyclomon. When first unlocked, he is at level 7 and occupies one guest slot. He starts with the skill Attract Echo and Wind Claw I, and unlocks Stun Beat Blow at the middle of the first Orgemon brothers boss fight.
  • Despite being a guest Digimon, the player has to control him manually and he has an HP and SP bar (so he can faint). He still cannot be put into the DigiFarm and enhancement items cannot be used on him.
  • After "Interlude: Hosts", he can evolve into any of his forms out of battle by equipping a Data Fragment item and retains this ability even during subsequent gameplay loops. The "switch" button is replaced with an "evolve" button where he can evolve back and forth into any of his already-unlocked forms. He can neither evolve into Aegiochusmon: Dark nor Jupitermon anywhere in the game, despite having done so in cutscenes.
  • He gains bonus stats twice in a playthrough; first when unlocked and the second time while evolving into Aegiochusmon for the first time. All other evolutions in-game do not count towards Aegiomon's bonus stats.
    • Prior to the update on March 11, 2026, there was an exploit where if Aegiomon reaches maximum level during a previous playthrough, an extra, hidden flag where he gets bonus stats will activate every time the player starts a New Game Plus even if they haven't actually encountered him yet. This was patched during said update.
  • Aegiomon's appearance is altered in each time zone/area;
    • In the 8 years ago version of the human world, he appears both in the overworld and in-battle wearing a yellow hoodie, a black beanie hat, light brown jeans and shoes to cover his monstrous features, even if the Agent used the Time Jump function to return there during the end of the game. This only affects his base form; his evolved forms are unaffected.
    • During the under attack version of Shinjuku, 8 years ago, Aegiomon appears in the overworld in his Aegiochusmon form.
    • His appearance is normal in both versions of the Digital World and the present day version of the human world.
  • His maximum Talent increases as the game progresses and cannot be increased by any other means. He will only reach Maximum Talent 99 near the end of the game.
  • If he has any items or skills equipped with him and he leaves the party for any reason (namely the beginning of a New Game Plus, between "Where Did The Ribbon Go" and "the Final Battle Over the Natural Order" and inside an Akashic Backdoor), all of them will be unrecoverable until he rejoins the party.
  • During a New Game Plus, he rejoins the party during the same section where he would join on a first playthrough (see above) with all of his equipment (skills and items) intact. He will only appear in his base Aegiomon form during the Cyclomon fight even if he has a Data Fragment equipped on him and must be manually evolved into his further forms, and starts with both of his signature moves.
  • He can be given costumes only available in DLC. This only affects his base form -- it does not display in battle in his evolved forms.
