Digimon Story: Time Stranger[edit]

Hiroko was a childhood friend of Misono Inori. When Inori's mother and Misono Yuta, her younger brother, perished in a Digimon attack, she provided valuable emotional support by opening a livestream channel known as "OcculTokyo TV", where she would rope her into investigating the Digimon under the Shinjuku Waterway in hopes of finding clues on the Digimon who killed her mother and younger brother. She hides her actions as being for monetary reasons to make Inori not feel bad about it.

She was first seen passing out after a Koromon passed behind her, and was spotted by Dan, Kanan and Misono Kosuke, who went into the waterway to find his remaining daughter Misono Inori. They leave her alone to find Inori, with Kosuke citing that Hiroko will wake up and find a way out. She escaped off-screen and went directly to Inori's house for another gig on the next day; secretly, this also serves to help Inori find "Coo-Chan" the Elecmon.

After the trio goes to the waterway and Inori spots "Coo-chan", Hiroko calls it a monster, but Inori tells her that "Coo-chan" is not a monster, and she merely felt sorry for it being bullied by other Digimon with nobody to help it. Hiiroko then berated Inori for her obsession with trying to bring cats and birds back home only for her father to kick them off because he has allergy to animals (it was heavily implied that she was bringing the animals back home as a replacement for Yuta), but nonetheless decides to continue indulging her for content. Eventually, Inori, Hiroko and the Agent made their way to "Coo-chan", but a massive Titan Cyclomon attacks them, causing Hiroko to scream in and drop into the floor. She then asks Inori to run trembling in fear, but Inori decides that it cannot be let go. With the help of Aegiomon, the evolved form of "Coo-chan" the Elecmon, the party slays Cyclomon and Hiroko part ways with the rest of the party.

Her final streaming gig occurred in "Truth born from an Egg" where she asked Inori, the Agent, Aegiomon and Minervamon out to seek a "dark shadow" that appeared in the Shinjuku Subway. The Shadow appears right behind Hiroko, instantly causing her to pass out in shock. The party and Minervamon then ditched her and went to chase the shadow alone, an action that led to Minervamon finally discovering that the Egg of the Great Guardian has already hatched, and the party being trapped in the Digital World following a clash against Titamon.

Between the timeskip, Hiroko noticed that Inori vanished and made a reboot version of Agent Alpha that doubled as a missing person poster for Inori.

After traveling back in time 8 years later, Hiroko is now an adult woman. Inori, the Agent and Aegiomon returned to their old home only to find her living there. She told them that during the time they vanished, Kosuke gave his apartment to her and cut contact before rejoining public security (to join D-SAT and exact revenge against the Digimon who supposedly took away his family). Furthermore, Digimon are now a well-known phenomenon to the public, who had already accepted their existence as a norm. However, the government is now planning to eradicate them and will capture them and arrest anyone found housing one with military force, and all Digimon they find will be sent to the Wall of Hope.

Eventually, the party returns from the Digital World to Shinjuku to find Little Bearmon, and found out that he evolved into a Grappu Leomon. Before they could convince him to go confront his older brother Callismon however, Hiroko holds them up and the three go to Vision Square to meet her, where she talks about her new Agent Alpha movie. This proves to be fatal, as Grappu Leomon ignored their warning and went to confront Callismon off-screen, causing the fall of an Apostle of Iliad as he was brutally murdered by a berserk Callismon. When they travel back in time, they hang up Hiroko's call to save Little Bearmon instead.

After saving Little Bearmon (who has evolved into Marsmon), Hiroko will notify that the trailer for the new Agent Alpha movie she made was out and can be seen in the Vision Square (in actuality, the trailer cannot be seen in the game).

When Jupitermon, Apollomon and Dianamon team up to stop the Shinjuku Inferno and break the time loop, It was heavily implied that Hiroko was amidst the protesters standing next to the Wall of Hope, and witnessed the three Digimon stopping the Giant Slayer.

If the protagonist travels back in-time to present day Shinjuku, Hiroko will provide sidequests for the Agent to investigate several Digimon cases (some requiring time travel) and for them to come into contact with several Royal Knights. These side missions include:

  • "Scariest Face in the World": Hiroko was contacted by the student of a teacher who disappeared after reading a mysterious red book that chronicled the lives of those who read it. They'd be stuck reading it if they started, unable to stop until they reached the final page, after which they'd see "the scariest face ever" and disappear. To find the source of it, Hiroko willingly read the book to get kidnapped so the Agent could follow her signal, which led them to an Outer Dungeon where they found Wendimon, the source of it. After the Agent defeated Wendimon, Hiroko confessed she had also been curious about the book itself.
  • "Fulfilling a Great Ambition": Hiroko was contacted by Norio, a time traveller from eight years in the past. As the Agent had gone through the same situation themself, Hiroko thought they'd be the only one that could help him. After the Agent returned Norio to his time, the Norio from the present showed up and explained to Hiroko that he met with his older self once more soon afterwards, where he learned that he'd be an important tech CEO married to his high school sweetheart. However, because he learned that, he ended up slacking off in life and instead became a penniless loser. Nonetheless, to avoid a time paradox, he wanted Hiroko's help to lie to his younger self. The younger Norio showed up as expected and the older Norio lied to him, including getting his high school sweetheart Hanae to play along, until she couldn't anymore. Hiroko then pointed out that the Agent and Inori had gone missing when they time travelled, so it was weird that Norio could grow up normally. Millenniumon praised Hiroko's intelligence then undid its disguise and brought all of them to its Outer Dungeon. After the Agent defeated Millenniumon, they all went back to Kosuke's office, where the older Norio explained that this changed the timeline once more and now he was a successful novelist married to Hanae. Hiroko and the Agent wondered if Norio did it on purpouse to make sure his future would go well.
  • "Observing the Underworld": Hiroko showed the Agent a photo of her high school graduation and saw in it Eriito Kinshiro, a classmate who asked for her help in the past to locate his missing parents. While she couldn't help him back there, she would do it now if she were able to travel back in time. As such, the Agent does just that and travels back eight years into Shinjuku Park. After meeting Kinshiro in the past, the Hiroko from eight years ago joined them and introduced him as an arrogant genius who had never met his parents as he was born in the Genius Labs that created him through genetic engineering. Hiroko pointed out that Dr. Monica Simmons likely knew about the labs. Since she had seen someone who matched her description, Hiroko led the group to the Subroad, though they instead met Shiroki Asuna there who told them she had just left towards Nishi-Shinjuku. There, they found Dr. Simmmons under attack by three Piccolomon. After defeating them, Dr. Simmons thanked the group for their help and pointed out that luck was part of being a genius. She also told them that Genius Labs likely had data on Kinshiro's parents but it was highly confidential and they would need to hack them to get it. Kinshiro had tried to hack their systems and break through their firewall already but his computer wasn't powerful enough, so Dr. Simmons offered hers instead, arguing that Public Safety already had their eyes on Genius Labs for presumed illegal genetic modifications. After getting the data, Dr. Simmons told Kinshiro that his parents weren't human but chimpanzees. She then added that Kinshiro would, in time, lose his humanity and become a chimpanzee as well. Kinshiro ran away after learning that and Hiroko asked Dr. Simmons how long he had left. Dr. Simmons speculated he'd start to degrade in about 5 to 6 years and fully become an ape in 8. Hiroko understood Kinshiro's suffering, having seen Inori lose her mother already. Both women were left wondering what would happen to him now though, unknown to them, Kinshiro would retain his humanity and grow as a person.
  • "Duels Must Be Fair": Hiroko got a tip about a mysterious cosplayer that was actually a Digimon. She didn't know who it was from, though she suspected Kosuke or someone else from Public Safety. Regardless, the duo went to investigate and found the culprit: Dynasmon, who wanted a fair duel but no one took him seriously. After defeating both Dynasmon and a Megadramon, Hiroko praised the Agent, pointed out she got great footage out of the fights, and told them that she thought Kosuke gave her the tip to see how she'd respond to it, with likely a back-up plan if she failed to, though she couldn't be certain if she did the right thing.

After the Royal Knights (including Alphamon) rejoined, in the side mission "An Odd Letter", the Misono Agency received a mysterious letter from Kosuke. Hiroko didn't understand why he'd send a letter to his own office. The envelope had a key to a coin locker and Hiroko asked the Agent to open it with her. The locker had a machine part which Hiroko had seen before at the site of the Nishi-Shinjuku Mass Building Collapse, an unsolved case she investigated. While the government gave an official reason for it, Hiroko didn't believe it and now knew Kosuke hadn't either. As such, she got the Agent to go with her to the Wall of Hope. There, Hiroko explained there was an effort to rebuild the area and both agreed the case had been a Digimon incident. Then, an Outer Dungeon opened in front of them and sucked them in, where they got attacked by a Mugendramon that sought its missing part, the machine part Hiroko held. It terrified Hiroko who couldn't help the Agent in combat, but they weren't alone, as all 13 Royal Knights then showed up. Omegamon explained they had felt an enormous power and rushed to their aid, though they couldn't all fight in such a small space so they allowed the Agent to choose who'd help them.

After being defeated, Mugendramon claimed it'd be reborn and return as many times as it took. Hiroko acknowledged it wasn't dead but resting and worried it'd attack them again. Hiroko then explained to the Agent that the Nishi-Shinjuku Mass Building Collapse was the disaster where Misono Yuta died, so it made sense his father had investigated it. Hiroko wondered if Kosuke had sent them the part to get revenge for his son's death. While they couldn't be sure, Hiroko still wanted to believe in him, as they shared a desire to keep people safe despite their differences.

After obtaining the ability to time travel, the side mission "Dreams or Reality?" also unlocks. There, Hiroko was having weird dreams so the Agent looked for her Monikers, visions of herself eight years ago that appeared all over time and space. Upon talking to them, they disappeared, after which Hiroko remembered about a dream she had where she visited that place despite having never been there. After obtaining all 13 Monikers, Hiroko decides to compile her dreams to make a video about them but that plan is ruined by her not having any weird dreams anymore. This gives the player the "Dreams or Reality?" trophy/achievement.

As the Akashic Records erode reality, the Central Shopping District of Shinjuku was destroyed alongside the Misono Household. Hiroko eventually ended up in a bunker where she contacted Inori alongside Dr. Simmons, telling her that no matter what, she has to come back alive and watch the anime she made.

Fluttering Gakuran[edit]

According to Hiroko herself, she brought the two Agent Alpha tickets for Inori and gifted them to her, which indirectly caused her brother and mother's deaths in a large-scale Digimon attack. The incident shook her heavily as she felt like she was responsible for destroying her childhood friend's family. (It is unclear if this is a an alternate reality where Hiroko brought the tickets and gifted them to Inori rather than Inori buying them herself, or this is consistent amongst all timelines).

In a certain timeline where the Shinjuku Inferno did not destroy the timeline, Hiroko asked Asuna to let her investigate Parallelmon as a volunteer. Asuna initially turns down her offer citing that it was too dangerous, but she managed to convince Asuna that this is done in hopes of reuniting with Inori. She eventually came across Parallelmon and was absorbed into the Akashic Backdoor alongside some Bancho Digimon and an Omegamon.

It was later revealed that her unconscious wish for Inori to return inexplicably managed to hijack the Akashic Backdoor and weaken Parallelmon's control over it.
