Chapter Responsibilities

All AAUP chapters are responsible for financial rectitude, democratic governance, sound representation, fair resolution of any complaints, and regard for Association principles, policies, and procedures. Unionized chapters have additional responsibilities.

AAUP At-Large Chapter

At the June 2019 AAUP Annual Meeting, the membership voted to approve a set of organizational changes as part of the association’s restructuring proposal, including the creation of a new at-large chapter, effective January 1, 2020. The at-large chapter is made up of individual AAUP members who are not eligible for membership in a campus chapter of the AAUP. An overview of restructuring is available here.

AAUP Local 6741 of the AFT

This page has information about the nationwide AAUP Advocacy Local 6741 of the American Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO.

AAUP Advocacy Local 6741 was created as a result of the AAUP’s affiliation with the American Federation of Teachers in 2022. The local’s membership consists of all AAUP advocacy members–that is, AAUP members who are not part of chapters that serve as the bargaining representatives for faculty and other academic employees in union-related activities at their campuses.
