Time for some nice army shots. Because this is where 6mm figures really shine.

 Up to now the collection of 6mm Great Northern War figures I painted lacked one of the big players in the war - the Saxons.

Now for the Swedes, for whom of course I already painted quite a sizeable force. This time it's the man himself, Charles XII., more cavalry in the characteristic wedge formation, and more infantry, wearing the also characteristic Karpus hats.

Right, on to the troops. First, some reinforcements for the Russians, in the shape of Grenadiers and Streltsy.

The Russian army of Peter the Great had Grenadiers form their own separate Battalions. And if you have some time, read up about the Streltsy. Fascinating stuff. Each time I glance over Russian history a little I realize how much I don't know. It's embarassing really. There's so much interesting stuff to know.

A few weeks ago I was recuperating from a nasty cold, wasn't really able to paint, things were annoying. So I decided to make some very simple terrain pieces and things got a bit out of hand.

Now let's have a look at the Russian army of the Great Northern War. During this conflict Tsar Peter I., the Great, turned a quasi-feudal, backwards Russia into an Empire by a strict policy of Westernization.
