"Oh my. Was not expecting much- much half-arsed fantasy out there. But I am close to a third through this and am absolutely hooked. No shitty grammar. No misspelt words. No malapropisms and no glaring anomalies in the plot. Initially, didn’t much like the FMC- too aggressive and sexually pragmatic (has sex if she “needs to fuck”). The world she lived in was pretty damned depressing. Enjoying the ride for now😅" — Jul 28, 2024 10:22AM

“Walter had never liked cats. They'd seemed to him the sociopaths of the pet world, a species domesticated as an evil necessary for the control of rodents and subsequently fetishized the way unhappy countries fetishize their militaries, saluting the uniforms of killers as cat owners stroke their animals' lovely fur and forgive their claws and fangs. He'd never seen anything in a cat's face but simpering incuriosity and self-interest; you only had to tease one with a mouse-toy to see where it's true heart lay...cats were all about using people”

“As humans, we waste the shit out of our words. It’s sad. We use words like “awesome” and “wonderful” like they’re candy. It was awesome? Really? It inspired awe? It was wonderful? Are you serious? It was full of wonder? You use the word “amazing” to describe a goddamn sandwich at Wendy’s. What’s going to happen on your wedding day, or when your first child is born? How will you describe it? You already wasted “amazing” on a fucking sandwich.”

“Then she said, with piteous defiance, "If I could love her, the Good Lord could, and he won't be too hard on an old lady who didn't have an easy life.”

“Tell me you don't feel what I feel when I hold you. Tell me you don't tremble when I touch you," he whispered huskily, "and then try to tell me you don't want me to make love to you.”
