Never Too Late

I failed in my first career choice right out of high school.
I ended up going to college, initially for teaching in biology.
When it became obvious that the teacher education program wouldn't work for me (there was no way I could get to the school to which the university wanted to send me for student teaching), I switched to a straight major in biology.
I worked for the NYS Mycologist at the NYS Muse Read more of this blog post »

“Now that it has come, our doom hasn’t arrived from outer space, but inner space. No death star pulsing gamma rays or behemoth killer asteroid spells our demise; the Earth itself will see to that. Something stirs within the heart of this abused sphere, making all man-made disasters look like child’s play. Gaea is finally having her revenge.”
Richard H. Fay, Trio of Terror: Three Horror Stories

“A steel-grey sedan pulled up a disused track and parked beneath the grim walls of Glamtallon Castle. Alec MacCrimmon, unofficial county historian and caretaker of the timeworn tower, turned off the ignition but refused to leave the relative comfort of his car. With hands clasped so tight to the steering wheel that his knuckles turned white, he glanced up at the fortress and shivered. Even though bathed in the golden rays of the late afternoon sun, the lichen-festooned edifice exuded an algid chill. MacCrimmon never liked the look or feel of the place. He especially disliked being anywhere near it so close to sunset.”
Richard H. Fay, Trio of Terror: Three Horror Stories

“I brought you here, my dear Gareth, because my new friends need to feed, and I dare not give them any more of my own blood.”
Richard H. Fay, Trio of Terror: Three Horror Stories

“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”
J.R.R. Tolkien

“I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

“A little Learning is a dangerous Thing.”
Alexander Pope

“Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.”
Alexander Pope, An Essay On Criticism
