Lucila Gamero de Medina

Born
in Danlí , Honduras
June 12, 1873

Died
January 23, 1964

Genre

Lucila Gamero de Medina was an important Honduran romantic novelist. She was one of the first women in Honduras to produce literary work. Born in Danlí in Honduras she lived for many years in Mexico, a country in which she published most of her work.

Her literary output was a shining example of the late-Romantic period of the Latin-American novel, love and family, are the major issues that occupy most of her narratives. Her best known novel is Blanca Olmedo which while a love story it illustrates a direct criticism of the church and establishment in Honduras at the time, something unprecedented especially from a woman. It is considered to be one of the most important novels in Honduran literature in the early twentieth century.
