“There are three types of people in this world. Firstly, there are people who make things happen. Then there are people who watch things happen. Lastly, there are people who ask, what happened? Which do you want to be?”

Stephen Richards What could I possibly write about Steve Backley that hasn’t already been written? I suppose no accolade could even come within a nano’s breadth of him winning a world championship gold medal at throwing the javelin or him breaking the world record for this sport. I mean, he’s been around for what seems like forever and has so many awards and trophies on his shelves that going by the price of metal on today’s market then he would make a million just cashing them all in. Steve has even had personal honors of an OBE and an MBE bestowed upon him from the Sovereign herself, the Queen of England no less!

However, as hard as Steve worked to win at his chosen sport, he has equally applied himself to knuckling down and writing a book that sets out to help others less fortunate than himself. He’s not one to shout out from the rooftops about what he’s done for others. No, rather than do that he’s a silent ambassador for doing good deeds. Perhaps one day his shelves will be full to brimming, equally as much as his trophy shelves are, with books he’s written in the self-help genre.
