I was born in the north of England, and apart from a brief adventure in west Wales, I’ve lived here all my life; my hobbies therefore include bear-taming, wolf-whispering and wearing sleeveless tops in temperatures of -10 degrees.
I’ve been writing professionally for nearly 30 years, predominantly as a playwright. This gives me my love of strong dialogue; even now, I tend to develop my characters by talking to them. On a good day, they answer back.
The Tied Man was my first full-length novel. I needed to create a world where the female protagonist wasn’t some passive foil just waiting to be ‘completed’ by a good (or bad) man, and I wanted to explore the darkness; after all, some of the very best stories tend to hide there…
After being widowed

NEW BOOK IN DECEMBER!

It’s been five gruelling years since the brutal Federal Defence, referred to by its occupied citizens as ‘The Grey’, sent its feared Obsidian Battalion to wipe out most of the inhabitants of the village of Trecarn, and the tiny farming settlement is finally beginning to thrive for the first time in its unedifying history.

The rebuilding is led by Trecarn’s first-ever female Heradin, Savka Mec’hone Read more of this blog post »

Tabitha McGowan To all my readers and friends here on Goodreads: my lovely husband passed away yesterday. He was (and is) the love of my life for over twenty years, and I am bereft. He leaves an amazing daughter who made him proud every single day.

I will not be writing for a while. I cannot give a date for the release of 'Unbound', but I will return to it, and it will get completed. I promise.

Thank you for your understanding.

Tabitha xx

Patty ~ Wrapped Up In Reading Book Blog I just want you to know that you made my day.
I saw your request and I nearly fainted!!
Thanks so much for the friend vite and I just wanted to tell you, I don't normally like "Dark" reads but whenever I mention the ones I did LOVE, your book is always the first one I tell people about. I try to spread the love for "The Tied Man"!!
Waiting patiently for book two!!!

xoxoxo

A teaser from 'Unbound' on my writer's page :)

Enjoy! (Well, 'enjoy' might not be the most accurate verb, but you get my drift...)

message 55: by Tabitha

Tabitha McGowan Wow, I just found my first neo-nazi on Goodreads! At least they were honest about it, by helpfully including 'NationalSocialist' in brackets after their first name, and having a profile pic adorned with a nazi emblem and the motto '14 words' (taken from a phrase coined by good old Adolf himself, no less). I wonder if I should gift them a copy of The Tied Man and engage in a lively debate about feminism, LGBTQ rights and the future of international immigration? (LOL jk, I flagged that bugger the minute I saw it).

Thank you *so* much! I've just read your review, and loved it (also adored the pics throughout - I'd never considered Thomas as Coyle, but as soon as I saw that shot I realised what a brilliant choice he'd make). I must admit, I was nervous about what your final rating would be!

I'm really glad you approved of the detail in all the Irish references and language - it really matters to me that I get all that stuff right, for all the reasons you gave in your review. Thank you for the friend-vite; I look forward to reading more of your reviews, and keeping you updated as to where I am with the sequel (set between Spain and Dublin; I've *had* to go on research trips to both places, which was a bit of a bummer...). Tabitha xx

If you remember, by super brainy niece bought and promised to read TTM. I got an email from her today, that she finished it. The following was her email:

Aunt Judy:

SO, I have finished "The Tied Man", and I have to say, it was certainly interesting!

I would definitely be interested to hear your take on the book, and what it was about it that you enjoyed so much!

It was definitely attention grabbing, but I had a difficult time placing some of the characters within the plot. Several were definitely well shaped, specifically Finn and Lilith, but Blaine was kind of a mystery for me from start to finish! I kept waiting for some moment at the end when Lilith would "understand" her like she does to other people and things would become a little more clear. Perhaps I missed something?

My favorite characters were actually all secondary figures... I really enjoyed the beach bum scientist and kid-rocker characters, and Henry the chef/butler/man about the house was pretty charming most of the time despite his unsuccessful attempts to actually be particularly helpful.

Anyways...let me know what you think.

Love, Emily
