Hi Jodi. Have recently listened to all your current Chronicles books and I was curious as to whether you are avoiding any specific time periods, such as religious times (Christ, etc) or whether you have these pegged for the future? Are there any historical periods that you will categorically not let Max venture into? Thanks in advance

In What Could Possibly Go Wrong, a character asks if confirming the crucifixion actually took place would be more or less catastrophic than proving it didn't. In my first book I had Dr Bairstow saying there are places to which they would not go - Jerusalem during certain periods, Mecca, Medina, Bethlehem and so on. The conversation was edited out in the interests of keeping the word count down, but it's a self-imposed rule I intend to abide by.

I'm also trying to minimise the risk of inadvertent paradox by not allowing them to jump back to any period less than one hundred years in the past, so as to minimise the risk of killing a grandparent. And also because I don't regard anything in the last hundred years or so as actual History. I always think if it's that recent then it's a memory, rather than History.

Hello Jodi, I just finished reading your latest St. Mary's installment and loved it. So, like a four year old that whines for more dessert after just eating a huge slice of chocolate cake, I want to know- when can I expect to read more? Will there be more about Max, et al, or Jenny, or a romance from Ms. Barclay, or something new? I'm not picky, jusy greedy and impatient. Thank you for your books so so far.

I'm working on Book 8 at the moment which should be out around May/June of next year and I've also got an outline for Book 9, as well.
I have started a sequel to The Nothing Girl, but it's slow going because I have to keep putting it aside to pick up the St Mary's stories again. And I do have some ideas for another Regency romance. My problem is that there just aren't enough hours in the day!!

Any thoughts you could share on how you create such engaging characters, whose fates we care about? Max, Leon, Peterson, the boss, Markham, Smallhope & Pennyroyal, many others. In contrast, I read some authors' series that are cleverly written, but at the end of each book I find that I don't really care what happened to the characters. Hi Jacki - thanks for your question. I'm honestly not sure why so many of my characters have resonated with readers like this. Even the Time Police have been welcomed into the fold.
