You'll learn a lot about what works and what doesn't.

Write, write, write--nothing happens unless you put butt in chair and fingers on keyboard (or pen in hand). Everyone has their own rhythms, but the most successful authors are consistent. They write to a word count or time limit every day.

Face the fact that your early stuff will likely be crap--that's okay. Learn and practice your craft--read books on writing, go to workshops. You'll get better, especially if you continue to read and write.(less)

“I am constantly amazed by how little difference there is between religions.' Selene sighed. 'It seems the arguments are always over the details. Mary or Isis, Jesus or Horus. Maybe Hypatia is right and names don't matter, just the search for godliness in the life we live.”
Faith L. Justice, Selene of Alexandria

“Why was she murdered—because she was a pagan, educated, a woman? I think Hypatia, a remarkable woman who willingly engaged in the politics of her time, ran afoul of others' personal ambitions. A rival party used fear-mongering lies to eliminate her as an asset to a political rival. Her tragic flaw was her disengagement from the ordinary people of her city. Among elites, Hypatia was esteemed and influential; but, to the ordinary people of Alexandria, she was a scandalous woman.”
Faith L. Justice, Hypatia: Her Life and Times

“By the eighteenth century, Hypatia had mutated from esteemed elder scholar to young beautiful martyr. Her life and death became metaphors for what was wrong with the Catholic Church.”
Faith L. Justice, Hypatia: Her Life and Times

Why thank you, Loudog! It's been a great day and week. I'm two short scenes away from finishing a third novel. Looking forward to putting it away for a while and rejoining the human race.

Thanks for thinking about me. Have a great Valentine's Day!

Faith

Faith Justice Hi Judith,

Thanks so much for the comment and for following my blog! Someone (very wise) once said, "If you don't want to work a day in your life, do the things you love." I love history and I love writing and have been fortunate to be able to devote myself to both for several years. Before that, I worked in the corporate world...enjoyable, but not self-satisfying.

Take care,
Faith

Judith Starkston Hi Faith,
I visited your blog and liked it very much. You have some great interviews and articles that were genuinely engaging. It sounds like you've been working at this for a long time quite successfully. Thanks for being a great source! Judith
