This is a Mafia Romance, and this is the first book in the Crimson. I loved getting to know the characters in this series. There is some dark stuff in this book, but I do not think it is super dark like some Mafia Romance. There are some steamy moments in this book. This story pulled me in, and I did not want to put this book down. There was so much family drama and action going on throughout this book which made me want to keep reading. I really enjoyed reading this book. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
Oh my gosh, where do I even begin! This has got to be one of my favourite Dark Mafia Romance books to date 😍
I love the female MC. She is strong, funny, and has such a vibrant personality. The male MC is the "I'd burn the world for you" type, and man, I picture him as an absolute hunk.
The author has done an amazing job at world building and character development, especially for a short read! There were twists in the book that I was not expecting, but also a few that were slightly predictable.
I can't wait to read more from this author and series! 😍 *I received a free eARC for my honest review on the book*
First off -let’s take a moment to appreciate this cover! This was a stellar mafia romance -take on a Romeo and Juliet reimagined. I thoroughly appreciate the undying devotion these two characters have for one another -and when the author starts to drop the twists she get super twisty and I loved every minute of it! Great if you’re looking for

5 STARS for Crimson Ties by Wendy Owens. This is my first read from this author so happy to have discovered her work as this book is amazing. Mafia / Dark romance is my favorite genre and this read has it all !
Crimson Ties is well written with lots of action and suspense. Alex and Amelia are amazing main characters they come from rival families and should not have anything to do with the other but they are drawn to each other.
Loved it !
I received a copy of this book from Booksirens and this is my honest review.
Wow! Where to start? This was an action pact with curve balls thrown at every turn. A modern Romeo and Juliet for Amelia King and Alexi Ivanov.
A chance meeting at an underground poker game will lead to love and heartache. When the Ivanov family wants Amelia, will Alexi be able to let her go, or will he fight until the end to save her? Over the years, both families have endured so many secrets and heartaches. The question is who will live and who will die.
This book is well-written and will keep you on your toes. It was hard to put it down once I started reading. If you enjoy a good mafia book with spicy romance, this book is for you. I can’t wait for the next book.
I received an advance copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.
This will be one of my favorite mafia books. The main reason for this is that Amelia isn't the typical mafia princess who is a weak naive virgin girl who can't stand up for herself. She is strong-willed, and sassy with a smart mouth and an even smarter brain despite a sheltered upbringing. Alex (Alexie) is everything that we like in a bratva prince strong, protective and odd course obsessed with Amelia. This is very much a forbidden romance, starcrossed lovers story which was done so very well. Can't wait for book 2.
Amelia craves freedom from her fathers guilded cage only the one time she does she finds herself in the arms of Alexei her fathers rival! this dark twisting take on romeo and Juliette, is fast paced engaging, steamy and leaves you craving more!
The opening book in a new mafia series from Wendy Owens with distinct Romeo and Juliet vibes as Amelia King and Alexei Ivanov, the heirs to two opposing mafia families meet and fall for each other and while there was a lot I enjoyed about Crimson Ties, some parts……. well not so much and that was mainly down to the hero. I loved his relationship with Amelia. There was an instant attraction between them even though surprisingly they didn’t recognise the other and their initial meeting led to a steamy encounter in an alleyway. Once they found out who the other was, the pull was too strong, and they continued to see one another under a cloud of secrecy. Where Alex fell flat for me was I just didn’t get any real sense of menace or danger from him. He was supposed to be the feared son of a Bratva Pakhan with a reputation to match but there was no darkness emanating from him and he could’ve just been an average businessman. The action filled storyline was strong with plenty of twists, turns and family dramas all playing a part, building the suspense throughout the book as deep, dark secrets were revealed and I’ll admit the conclusion of the story surprised me, I had my eye on someone else as the villain of the piece. Next up is Vincent’s story but after seeing him in this book, I can’t help but have the reservations about him as I had about Alex’s character. Here’s hoping I’m proved wrong.
Crimson Ties by Wendy Owens is the riveting story of Alexei and Amelia. This is, somewhat of a retelling of Romeo and Juliet…set in the mafia world. Alexei and Amelia are from near-warring mafia families. They meet at a high-stakes card game and are immediately taken with one another. They decided no relationships…but almost immediately after that, they are expressing undying love for each other. Later they discover that their families are about to go to war…unless Amelia agrees to something that will right…a wrong her family has done.
This story was excellent!!! Enjoyed feisty, mouthy Amelia who is a force in her own right. Alexei is a bit mild for a mafia prince. Doesn’t seem as forceful, strong, or dominating. Nevertheless, the story is completely engrossing and I was hooked immediately!!! The writing is excellent, the development of the characters is superb, and I was fully invested in ALL the characters! Tons of shocks, surprises, danger, and plenty of steam! First story I’ve read by this author…and I will certainly be back for more!!!

The majority of what I read are Dark Romances, Mafia to be exact. So this book was very much up my alley. It was beautifully written, minus a few weird wordings during spicy scenes. I wouldn't call this book dark, it mainly is just a mafia romance with a dash of spice.
Alex and Amelia are such a power couple, the instant attraction and intimacy between them was so intense. A Romeo and Juliet, their love is forbidden as they are rival families with deep connected history fueling the hatred. Both family would stop at nothing to see the other fall, but these two view their world differently. This couple has to be one of the best written mafia pair I’ve ever read. This book has plots and twists, somewhat predictable if you read between the lines ;)
These two heirs fought hard to keep their relationship hidden, to keep their affairs separate from their work/home relationship. Until they are discovered, secrets get revealed, lies are uncovered, no stone is left unturned. The suspense of finding out who has betrayed their trust, uncovering their secret love and is threatening to destroy their legacy.
Amelia, questioned everything she knew and how to continue… whether her family would approve her decisions or would it be her turn to earn the disappointment title from her father. And the determination of who would continue the King legacy out of the siblings, she refuses to be seen as weak and less than a “King”. She is head strong, intelligent, a bada** woman. Alex on the other hand had to figure out how to get his father’s to halt this plans as the only heir, the stakes were high. The fear for Amelia’s safety had no end, if anyone so even looked at her so slightly off, the price they would have to pay. We love a “Touch her and I’ll burn this world” type of man.
This book has it all: suspense, romance, spice, family drama, death, hea, forbidden love. I could not put this book down once I read the initial sample of the first two chapters, then I knew I had to have this book. And I have yet to put it down, I can’t wait to get a physical copy between my fingers. Waiting for March for Vincent x Eva’s story to unfold. This will be a 5 book series, that I personally can’t wait to read.
Amelia wants control over her own life and to do so she has to get away from her family, she just has to wait for the right opportunity to flee. But then her father approaches her with an idea which she never thought she'd get and realises that she is very interested but conflicted. At the same time she has a one night stand with a stranger only to find out that he is the son of her father's russian mafia rival. Because of past history the King's and Ivanov's hate each other. Both Amelia and Alexei have to keep the relationship quiet because of this. While dealing with the burgeoning relationship outside factors bear heavily on it. Amelia struggles to know who she can trust, are the threats coming from her own family or from Alexei's .
Can their love be enough to see them through this turbulent time? Will their family's past history tear them apart? Can they work together to keep each other safe and deal with the threat against them?
Definitely love this book from start to finish. Love how the author wove the past and the present together to have Amelia 2nd guessing where the threat was coming from. It showed her navigating through a man's world, becoming stronger and more formidable than just a mafia princess. Can't wait for the next in the series.
Great read that I was able to finish in one sitting. There is sort of an insta love connection between Amelia and Alexei who come from rival, mafia families. I loved their connection, and growth as young adults fighting for their love against their families and unknown threats. Great amount of heat. I loved their personalities and the bits we were able to see of the secondary characters. I can tell this series is going to be a great one. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Triggers- Language, explicit erotic content, and violence.
Tropes- Instalove, Romeo and Juliet, Do-Si-Do with the Mafioso, Secret Baby, He Ain’t Heavy- He’s My Bratva.
What I thought- I really liked the secondary characters. I liked Eva a lot and Vincent; I can’t wait to read their story. I also liked Nikolai and am very curious about his background. Alexei and Amelia are fine, but they are kind of run of the mill as far as a hero and heroine go.
Can we talk about… the zexytime scenes. Sometimes it was IKEA sex, i.e. it read like furniture assembly instructions. The scene in the alley was hawt though. And the word “member” was used. What is this, Sam’s Club? And I thought we stopped calling it a “member” in 1986.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Amelia and Alexei should be enemies. For them to be together is forbidden. Only fate had other plans, and the chemistry they share can’t be denied.
Will they find a way to make things work or will it be war between their families?
This story was full of danger, action, and suspense. It had me glued to my kindle. Can’t wait to read more of this new series.
This is my first read from this author and I have to say I enjoyed the world that was created in this book. I will also say that I am very please that there is more to come! This is your typical mafia romance. Is that a bad thing? No I am definitely a fan/ a professional when it comes to reading mafia romances. I love them and this book did hit the spot. Now what made this different from other mafia romances I've read without giving too much away. Well this one has a plot line that, to me, comes across like a mystery and the twists and turns that happen I predicted or tried to and I kept failing. This one ends in a way I could have never predicted. So yes I did enjoy this one! The only thing I struggled with in this book was the main couple and how fast their relationship developed. Love at first sight maybe?

This is the first book of the series in which we follow the story of a Russian mafia boss and an Italian mob princess. The story was typical and predictable, but it still had some chemistry that kept my attention. I have to say that the first half of the book was much more interesting than the second, somehow it started to lose its intensity and only at the end was there some excitement that affected my rating.
This is the first book I've read by this author and I'm looking forward to every next one. I love her writing style and am grateful that I got the chance to read this arc.

Simply unbelievable! I loved Amelia and Alexai from their very first encounter with one another. I pretty quickly felt I had the traitors figured out, and I was correct on the first two of the triangle of traitors, but the third one blew me away! I am excited for the next one, but I am craving Nikolai’s story. I fell for Nikolai in this one and I want his HEA so badly.

This author is a first for me. However, the genre is not so much.
You will fall in love with the FMC. She has a personality so vibrant. Not only that, she is strong as she is funny. And your heart will melt the MMC because he is the type that will lay his life down for the woman he loves.
The story will pull you, and from start to finish, you will not want to put this book down. The world building and character development was on point. These two characters are completely and hopelessly devoted to each other. That is what true love is.
If you love dark, mafia romance, warring families, Romeo and Juliet vibes, steam and spice, family drama, action, twists, fast burn, insta - love, touch her/ or him with unalive vibes, then there story is definitely for you.
Highly recommend both the author and the book.
I received an ARC. Therefore, I am voluntarily submitting a review.
This was a fast paced dark mafia romance. It was a good, quick read. I was able to read it in a day. I enjoyed the mix of sexual content and the story line/plot. I would recommend for those who have read and enjoyed similar dark mafia romance books. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This book had good character development. I loved the little Russian words of endearment in the book that made it feel more warm. The pacing of their relationship did feel very rushed at the beginning. The ending felt just right.
I was given this advanced copy for my honest review. Let's first talk about the two main characters in this book. Amelia King is the daughter of a Mafia boss and has many layers to personality. Some of the things of her personalities clash. One minute she's the sweet girl and wants to please everyone then the next she this tough chick who going to rule the world. But some reason to me the character still felt flat. I wanted to and needed to know more about Amelia to get the understanding of how she fell into a relationship with Alexei. So let's talk about the male lead Alexei, he was said to be this tough mafia killing machine but you don't see that in this book at all. You never really see his dark side and yet you hear about it from other characters. You see more dark side from his friend a side character. I could not see him as a mafia character at all. I did like the story-line in this book, I loved how Alexei and Amelia met. How they didn't know who each other was till later and were already craving each other. But I felt like there was no build up in their relationship to make me seem like they were in love other then the characters saying that they love each other. I was waiting for Alexie to actually admit he didn't love Amelia and was trying to take her family apart starting with deceiving her. Also I could have used more in the battle scenes (they needed more umpf). The smut scenes that you see once in awhile were great. Especially the first one in an alley...it's spicy. I needed more though of everything. I needed more of an arc in the story-line. All in all the book has a good start and good foundation. Also love that it's a Romeo and Juliet themed.
What a dynamic start to the Crimson Series! With a modern tale of Romeo and Juliet were we will discover how Alexei whose family leads the Russian Mafia and Amelia is a Princess from the Italian Mafia meet and hit it off not knowing who each other are and submit to their raw attraction to one another in a darkened alley. Being from rival families this powerful connection will either tear apart or connect their families with the hope of finding peace. Alexei becomes fiercely protective of Amelia who keeps secrets from her family while devolving a meaningful relationship with Alexei. When secrets from the past are revealed they only created havoc with the future and those intent for control at all cost to destroy any good in Amelia and Alexei. When the bottom falls out from them they can not seem to find any solid ground and their worst nightmare they are facing is one twist you would never see coming. Amelia being a “King” shows her strength so when the last trap set brings her to her knees she does the unthinkable! Will the price they’ll pay for family, enemies and love leave them standing?
Wow, what a page-turner! This was a very well written story that had all the elements. There were so many twists and turns! I never saw them coming and they don't stop. The things that came up kept me guessing and that was intriguing enough, but there was also so much steam and danger. This had a lot of family involved and I loved that for several reasons. This felt realistic between crime families which I appreciated.
She knew what she wanted and realized the man she had met was it. But could they be together?
She was so strong! And so was he, but he appreciated her as she was and so did her brother. Her best friend Eva was great. Her brother! Love, love him. Protective? Yes. But he has his heart in the right place and it's obvious he'd be there for his sister. The back and forth and guessing games were entertaining and I am happy they finally got their HEA! The family connections and the rivalries were so realistic and done so well! I cannot wait for her brother's book! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I found this story captivating from the beginning because of the style in which it was written. I enjoyed feeling like Amelia was confiding in me, the reader.
Alex was one determined man; when he knew what he wanted, he didn’t let anything get in his way from attaining it. Amelia, to Alex, was his, and there wasn’t anything anyone could do about it—they certainly tried, though.
Amelia had such grit when she decided to take on a more active part in her father’s mafia organisation; she threw everything into it. Meeting Alex, Amelia was smitten straight away, and this feeling continued to grow throughout the story.
This fast-paced book had a plethora of action-packed scenes with loads of drama that, at times, made you wonder how things could possibly be resolved. There were quite a few moments where I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation of what was to come… great stuff. Although I correctly guessed who the mystery traitor was in the story, it was cleverly plotted.
The Romeo and Juliet vibes are there in the fact that they’re rival families and fall in love fast. But it wasn’t reallllly that fast, it just all happens off page which was disappointing. Like to the point when they dropped the bomb that they were in love I wrote “that came out of nowhere” because they hang out at night for weeks and that’s all that’s said.
For how tough and strong Amelia is portrayed by her father and in some moments, she is also weirdly weak at the same time? She cries multiple times when Alex tells her hard truths and thinks he’s lying. Girl both of your families are mafia… it’s not that shocking your dad is lying to you.
Overall it’s a cute love story and they fight for each other a lot. I was just missing some more connection between them and I think deeper characterization. I don’t know much about Amelia or Alex other than they’re mafia kids and in love.

Book 1 was great way to start a new series. It had everything you needed, sexy and sassy FMC and a dashing ruthless MMC.
Their chemistry was there straight away even though they didn't know who the other was. Now that is a great way to meet lol
As this story unfolded was a new take on these stories so that was great from the outset.
There is nothing like a forbidden romance and I enjoyed how these two main characters navigated not only their new relationship but also their individual families and in the world that they live in.
I enjoyed the brother and sister of Vincent and Amelia's relationship. How this plays out through this book. Their love for one another was great.
The twist and turns throughout this book was a great addition and added to the overall roller coaster ride.
An enjoyable easy read.
