Giancarlo Westbrook isn’t supposed to be home this Christmas.
To Felicity James, Giancarlo, a.k.a. her brother’s best friend, is the unfinished draft that’s never supposed to see the light of day. After one unforgettable kiss in college, which was strictly for educational purposes, they both agreed that memory should be tucked in a locked drawer. So what if they grew up sharing countless late-night dinners from The Golden Lobster, adventures, and whispered secrets under twinkling stars? The line in front of the friend zone is clearly drawn, and it’s a line Felicity knows her brother, Clay, would hate for his best friend and sister to cross.
Six years later, they’re both back in their hometown of Wedgefield for Christmas. Felicity, now an ornament maker, and Giancarlo, now a well-known muralist, are both at a crossroads in their careers. They’re each looking for a distraction—and trying to ignore the spark that never went away—when Felicity uncovers an unexpected mystery from her grandmother’s past. And she’s determined to solve it. There’s just one problem, Clay volunteers Giancarlo to help her. As Felicity and Giancarlo embark on a mission to solve the mystery in time to deliver the Christmas gift of a lifetime to her grandmother, they find themselves caught up in the familiarity and comfort of each other's presence. Maybe some drafts are meant to be finished. Maybe some stories need to be told.
***Meet Me in December is a novella and NOT a full length novel. It's a heartwarming romance very much like a Hallmark Christmas movie with no explicit scenes.***
“I hold my hand out to help her. She stares at it for a few seconds, and I think she’s going to tell me that she doesn’t need any help, but at last she takes it. For a brief moment, I pretend she’s mine and imagine how I’d hang on while we walk to the door.”
Childhood friend’s, second chance romance, with a dash of mystery and all the hallmark vibes.
Meet me in December is the perfect cozy read for any winter morning.
This is the first book of the author's that I've read and I will definitely be reading more from her! The book's blurb is straightforward. Meet Me in December is told through Felicity and Giancarlo's pov and is a sweet holiday second chance romance.
While Felicity loves making glass ornaments, she's been feeling discouraged at her work so being home for the holidays and trying to uncover part of her grandmother's past is the perfect distraction. She wasn't counting on Giancarlo, her brother's best friend and her past crush, to arrive with her brother to celebrate the holidays with them. Like Felicity, Giancarlo has been struggling to find inspiration for a mural he was commissioned for. He hoped returning to Wedgefield would be a nice change in scenery to spark his creativity but he wasn't counting on the feelings that would resurface upon seeing Felicity again. As they spend time together and try to surprise Felicity's grandmother, neither is able to deny the feelings they have for each other.
Although Giancarlo is best friends with Clay, Felicity's brother, he also grew up with and was friends with Felicity. Even though things between them didn't end as either had hoped years ago, there were no ill feelings. They knew each other well and it was easy for them to reconnect as quickly as they did. I loved seeing them fall back into the way things were but also liked how they influenced each other to be brave to take chances. Their romance was a clean slow burn consisting of only kissing and no foul language used. While the romance was a slow burn, the length and pacing of the novella didn't make the wait feel long. And, it was certainly worth it as their interactions were full of sweet longing. From the start, I was captivated by the author's writing and enjoyed this story of two tales. This story gives all the cozy Hallmark vibes and is a holiday read you will not regret reading.
A sweet and cozy Christmas romance novella with second chances for everyone!! Giancarlo and Felicity are thrown together again years after coming close to something serious. Both are still full of feelings for the other, and both are afraid to risk their hearts. It was so lovely how the theme of taking a chance wove throughout the whole story, from the main romance, to work life, to strained relationships with parents, and finally to the sweetest later in life second chance! Now all we need is for Clay to get his HEA!!
A sweet holiday romance with no spice. It has all my favorite tropes: brother’s best friend, friends to lovers, second chance romance, forced proximity, one bed, and her family is his found family. I absolutely loved the diverse representation because FMC is from Trinidad and MMC is part Italian. There were references to food and culture I am ready to try! This is a perfect novella to binge in between holiday obligations.
This book is so perfect to read while you cozy up on the sofa with a cup of hot cocoa! It warmed my heart more and more with every page! Giancarlo is a blast from Felicity’s past, and they embark on a bit of a detective adventure with her grandma’s best interests at heart! And oh, how I love her super-cute and feisty grandma! This is for sure a holiday must read!
This was a hallmark story with a diverse set of characters. This story was wholesome, adorable, and gave the holiday spirit without the spice. I clearly adore spice, but every story does not need it. This story stands on its own. It was a great Christmas Day read.
What better way to survive the fiery pits of July than with sweet, wintery romance? Loved the multi-layered love stories and the themes of lifetime loves, whatever obstacles need to be conquered.
Meet Me in December is a second chance holiday romance where childhood friends reconnect years later during the holiday season. Since they last spoke, they’ve grown up, started their own careers and are now single
Felicity is an ornament maker, like her grandma, and while she is back home, she finds an ornament that hints that her grandma used to be in love with someone before she met her grandpa. Felicity tries to bring it up to her grandma who tells her to drop it, but of course, she doesn’t. With the help of Giancarlo, they spend time together trying to piece together her grandma's history to find the mystery man.
The reconnection between Felicity and Giancarlo is slow and natural. It was swoony the way they didn’t jump back in as if things hadn’t changed. Although this story is shorter than a normal length (but longer than a novela) I felt like the pacing was natural and realistic.
