When Ethan Forrester’s hockey star brother begs him to take his place at a masquerade fundraiser due to illness, Ethan grudgingly agrees to help the cause. After all, he’ll be wearing a mask that covers the scar across his eye. No one will know his true identity.
Sports journalist Carly Hughes will do whatever it takes to procure the interview no one else can get from the NHL Stanley cup winning captain. After a few drinks she confesses her need for an exclusive interview or she’ll be fired. Ethan knows his brother as well as he knows himself—spilling a few details should keep the man’s privacy intact—mostly.
However, when their interview moves to the penthouse suite, Ethan tries to explain he’s not the Forrester brother she’s looking for, but Carly insists he keep his mask on. Daylight brings some harsh truths, and a serious hangover. Carly not only forgot to record her interview, but she wakes up with a stranger in her bed. Or was this case of mistaken identity the best thing that’s ever happened to her?
Rebecca Thomas enjoys a love-hate relationship with Alaska. She lives there with her husband and sons. When she isn’t reading, writing, or playing board games, she can be found taking long walks in the woods dreaming up her next story.
A reluctant reader as a child, she didn’t become interested in books until her teen years when she discovered historical romance. Now she loves all sub-genres of romance and can’t decide which one is her favorite.
Rebecca earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Alaska and was employed in the airline industry for several years before working in her current position as a program manager in higher education.
As usual, my advice when considering books by this highly talented author is don’t bother reading my review, just read this heartwarming second book in the Alaskan Hero series!
Even though this is a relatively short story, it is filled with so much action that it ‘feels’ much longer when you read it - that’s in a great way, nothing negative. The Alaskan setting is amazing and the author’s knowledge of living and working there shines through, somewhere brought to life in her amazing descriptions of settings, making the reader feel like they’re actually there.
The characters are well developed, with plenty of background information enabling readers to easily relate to them. Sometimes physical trauma leaves even deeper emotional scars and that’s so true for the hero of this story. Ethan Forrester has never forgiven himself for not saving his wife when she was involved in a multiple car crash. He was scarred trying to do so, but the scar on his face is nothing compared to that on his emotional heart. It is only by being hidden behind a mask that he has the courage to start living again and, once the mask is removed, retreats again. This is a superb story of courage, resilience and melting away the ice and masks behind which Ethan hides. Carly is a brilliant, feisty and determined young lady and their interactions are totally engaging, the reader really wants to help get the two together romantically! A sports journalist, Carly is working hard to achieve an interview with Dane Forrester but, through it all, she maintains her integrity and honesty throughout. The series focus is on the Forrester family and, having read ‘Her Alaskan Hero’, it was great to catch up on other members of the family again. Having said that, I don’t think you need to have read the first book to enjoy this one - but they are both great so you’ll probably want to, anyway!
I have no hesitation in highly recommending this (and its predecessor) to anyone who enjoys reading great romances in amazing settings with well developed characters and a fabulous family, too.
Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Great read! When asked by his famous hockey playing brother to cover for him at a masquerade ball, Ethan Forrester figures he can do a quick in, shake a few hands, quick out. No big deal! What he didn't expect was to meet the first woman who has peaked his interest since the death of his wife five years ago. Bad part is, she's a reporter who desperately needs an interview with Dane Forrester, his brother who NEVER does interviews.
Carly Hughes gave up everything to come to Alaska for a fresh start and a fantastic job. Well the job seemed fantastic until her boss delivers his "get this interview or you're out" speech. So what if no one has ever been able to get Dane Forrester to agree to an interview. She's not one to give up without a try! Ambushing him at the ball with the cold hard truth seems to be the best plan she can come up with. She's ecstatic when she gets him to agree. Now to find that spot in the hotel where they can talk without interruption. Seems like his hotel room may be the only place!!
You definitely want to grab a copy of this to find out how the story unfolds from there. I highly recommend it.
First of all thank you Rebecca for this ARC!!! In return I will give my honest review. This is such a wonderful book. I am a winter and snow girl so the setting is perfect. AND I must say the Forrester men are charming and sexy. Omg I love all of them!!! It did take me a few days to read only because I was working but the minute I got uninterrupted reading time I did not put this book down. Such an easy read. I almost gave up on Ethan myself that little sucker but I really didn't want to. And I adore Carly. She says what she is thinking and I just love that. This is such a great love story! Can't wait for the next one!!
A feel-good contemporary romance with a masquerade ball 4.5 stars
I really liked this contemporary romance novella. It had so many cool elements including a modern masquerade ball, a widower posing as his pro-hockey player brother, a spunky heroine, and an Alaskan Lodge in the winter. I also really liked the heroine's tendency towards total honesty. I quite enjoyed it. I would have loved it a little more if Ethan had not pushed the heroine away for so long, and I wish that the dialogue flowed a little better. Otherwise, I adored this novella, and I plan to read it again sometime. This one was so good that I really want to read the earlier books in this series soon.
I would say that this book is lightly steamy. Some foreplay is explicitly described very well and then it gets vague. The scene ends, they wake up the next morning thinking that the sex was great. This writing technique worked well in this book since I did not feel cheated out of a love scene.
I received a free advanced reading copy from the author, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.
I enjoyed this story very much. I liked how straightforward Carly was. Things get a little tricky as they try to decide whether they are dating or not, but Carly never hides that she is a reporter (It is a pet peeve of mine to see other stories do that.) Her straightforwardness also means that we don't get any of that "misunderstanding because we never had an actual conversation" stuff. And she can play hockey, too -- that scene was so funny. Ethan has the broody thing going on, but I didn't think he was very rude about it. He was abrupt and closed off, but he wasn't mean. He totally made me cry at the end. I love the Alaskan setting of these stories. We get little glimpses of what Alaska is really like, such as defferent names for things and scheduling things differently. If you care, this story is not completely clean, but it is sweet. There is some mild swearing and some foreplay, but the love scenes are closed-door. I voluntarily read and reviewed this story with my honest opinion. I would recommend it to anyone who wanted something fun but with heart behind it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
A hit in my opinion. I just love how Ms. Thomas brings her characters to life. The story is written with dual POVs so the reader can identify with the characters and to understand them better. There was plenty angst here. You cheer for Carly and her mission to get want she wants. While at the same you feel the grief and heartache that Ethan feels and is suffering through.
I was in the middle of reading another story when I downloaded this. I read the first paragraph and continued to the end. I couldn't put this down. I wanted to be an author but I don't have the gift of words like Ms. Thomas. She brings the story to life. You can see the action play out like you would a movie. I intend to purchase a copy to help support this gifted author to continue to write so I can further enjoy her work. HIGHLY recommend.
A well written story that will engage your attention at the beginning and keep you page turning from then one. Even though I had not read the first two books in this series, I was able to follow along. But this book was so good I want to go back and read the first two books. The story of a newbie reporter who manages to get an interview with a reclusive hockey star which she thinks will jumpstart her career. They meet at a masked ball and she has no idea that he is impersonating his sick brother. Their chemistry is instant and they spend the night together. The truth comes out and no spoilers here. This was a great book that you will love. I received an arc of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Melting His Alaskan Heart: I loved that Ethan was totally opposite to his other brothers. Sometimes the quiet ones are the best ones. I loved that he cared about everyone and everything. He is still hot in his own way. It doesn't matter whether he thinks he's good looking or not but that is sometimes what woman see in the quiet ones. I loved how Rebecca chose to write this brother and it was a perfect story! A great romance that was not planned but it forced him to get out there whether he wanted to or not. It made him realized maybe I can care again and give my heart to someone. I loved the whole story and the characters were all great.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily offering my honest review.
This is a well written story about Ethan and Carly. At a masquerade party, Carly thinks she has been lucky enough to land an interview with the hot NHL captain. Ethan is posing as his brother behind a mask and enjoys his time with Carly. When Ethan and Carly take the interview up to the penthouse, things progress and the masked man rocks her world. When the light of day arrives, Carly wakes up beside a stranger. Can Ethan make it up to her? Can Ethan accept that beauty is skin deep and people love what is inside of us, not outside and allow Carly to love him?
The author is well familiar with Alaska and that added to this story. Ethan doing a favor for his brother after all it was for charity. Cathy needed a story or lose her job.The truth doesn’t come out till the next day and what will be revealed and can they go on from there, good story and enjoyable audio narration. Given audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
Great romance. Ethan lost the love of his life and he refuses to open his heart to another female. Carly's just the woman to force his heart open and heal old wounds. can she be patient enough to cure him though read the story to find out. This is a standalone with a HEA.
Can Carly open Ethan's heart again? Ethan is going to cover for his famous brother hickey player Dean in a masquerade ball. Carly needs an interview wirh Dean to keep her job. Can a wrong encounter bring love and happiness again? good audiobook
This is book 2 in the Alaskan Hero series and is just as captivating as book 1 (Her Alaskan Hero) was! I think this could be read as a stand alone, but book 1 was so good! You'd be doing yourself a favor by reading book 1 and then this one! It'll just make you fall more in love with the characters! It's like you are revisiting Gold Creek and getting reacquainted with everyone you enjoyed being around!
Hockey star, Dane Forrester has a benefit to attend and is ill. He's missed so many other functions that he knows he'll be in big trouble if he misses this one. He does the only thing he can think to do and that's call his brother Ethan (that look a lot alike) to pretend to be him. It's a masquerade party and he'll be wearing a mask, so no one will know. Ethan agrees and vows that Dane owes him, big time!
Ethan doesn't socialize much since the death of his wife. He does his job and nothing else. So, when Dane asked for his help, he was going to say no. But, he said yes and wow, what a life changing decision that was!
Carly is a sports journalist and has been told she must do an interview with Dane or possibly lose her job. She attends a benefit that she knows he's suppose to be at. She actually meets him and he agrees to an interview! After a few drinks, "Dane" invites her to his penthouse for an interview. However, it's not Dane, it's Ethan. He attempts to tell her who he is, but it doesn't happen. What does fly is sparks between them!! But, she didn't get her interview! Can/will Ethan help her get the interview? Dane hates giving interviews, but he does owe Ethan! Hmm!
I loved this story just as much as book 1! The sparks between those two are amazing! Carly is such a spitfire, that Ethan doesn't stand a chance, no matter how hard he tries. But, he feels like it's his fault his wife died in the car accident and he doesn't deserve to live. Can Carly make him wake up and continue to live?! This is an amazing series, so far! The characters are so realistic, it just adds to the charm of the book!!
Sometimes it takes a ton of perseverance to get what you want, and that is the theme behind Melting His Alaskan Heart by Rebecca Thomas. In order to keep her brand new job, sports journalist Carly Hughes needs to get an interview with hotshot professional hockey player Dane Forrester. Unfortunately, Dane does not give interviews, so Carly's task is next to impossible. Luckily, Dane is attending a masquerade charity ball, and that is where Carly intends to pounce. Dane's contract requires him to show himself at the ball, however, he has a stomach flu, so he begs his brother Ethan to take his place. Ethan's scarred face will be covered up by a mask, so he very unhappily agrees to help his brother out.
As a result, Carly and Ethan meet, and there is an instant chemistry. So much so that they spend the night together. Once Ethan unveils the truth to Carly, he ensures her that he will arrange an interview for her. Ethan convinces himself that he has no desire to see Carly ever again, however, Carly believes otherwise. She makes a pest out of herself until she lands the interview and proves to Ethan that she is the one for him.
This is a nice love story with an interesting plot and well-defined characters. Carly and Ethan are both lonely people, and I liked the way Ms. Thomas brought them out of their respective shells. Carly's constant tenacity got on my nerves, however, she did what she needed to do to win Ethan's love and get her story. Ms. Thomas does a nice job of describing the Alaskan wilderness, so much so that I may want to vacation there someday. This is the second book from the author's Alaskan Hero series and it can be enjoyed as a standalone. I read the first book, Her Alaskan Hero, and liked it very much.
Complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.
Ethan Forrester instantly regrets doing his NHL hockey star brother a favor by pretending to be him and going to a masquerade ball! But there he is trying to blend in and get out of there as quickly as possible! But then Carly arrives and all his good plans go out of the window. But in the light of day all of Ethan's ghosts come rushing back and he doubts Carly's sincerity on wanting to be her friend, even after his true identity is revealed, she still wants to be his friend. Sports journalist Carly Hughes has been given an impossible assignment, to interview Dane Forrester, a NHL Hockey player who refuses to do interviews. So she thinks it's her lucky day when she sees him at a masquerade ball and throws herself on his mercy in order to score an interview with him; to her surprise not only does he give her that interview, but a night filled with passion too. But the next morning she wakes to find that she wasn't with Dane Forrester at all, but his handsome but scared firefighter brother Ethan. But Ethan keeps turning Carly away, too gripped with his grief and ghosts can Carly break through or will Ethan stay in the past? After reading Rebecca Thomas first book in the series Her Alaskan Hero; so I jumped at the chance to read the next book in the series Melting His Alaskan Heart and I was not disappointed in the slightest! Flirty, fun, guilt, drama and heartbreak! It was written so beautifully that the story just jumped off the page. When it came to the characters, I loved them all! I cannot even decide which my favorite one is! I give Melting Her Alaskan Heart 5 stars! And I am desperate for the next installment from the Forrester family.
I have been enjoying author Rebecca Thomas's, Alaskan Heroes, series since the first release and so when I had the opportunity to continue my reading I went for it. I was not disappointed by, Melting His Alaskan Heart. In fact I found more of a sizzling romance in this novel than I did in the previous book and for me that is a bonus alone.
At the beginning of the book I was first introduced to Ethan, the hero who has agreed to take the place of his famous brother in a charity event, a masquerade ball. I very much liked Ethan's character from the start. He was widow who was trying to survive life without the woman that he loved. Ethan was more in the background in comparison to Dane, his elder brother. Still, Ethan had so many likable traits about him that I knew I going to favor this story.
Once Ethan meant with Carly, the heroine who just happens to be a sport's reporter, the story took a strong leap towards the romance. At first Ethan and Carly had this awkward chemistry among them. With Carly believing that she was hooking with Dane rather than with Ethan. A bedroom scene followed and I was worried that this was going to bring the novel down, thankfully the author kept moving forward with the story. Carly and Ethan both had their dilemmas that they needed to work and since they couldn't seem to get anywhere on their own, together seemed to workout for the better.
I would recommend this novel. It was a very good. It wasn't a super strong read, but it was highly entertaining and I'm looking forward to the next release of the Alaskan Heroes.
Ethan does a favor for his hockey superstar bother by going to a fund raiser. That is also a masquerade party. He feels he only needs to make an appearance for a while then he can use the penthouse suite and go back to his life. Being a volunteer firefighter and working at the families lodge. His wife died in a car crash almost 5 years ago and during his attempt to rescue her he now has a scare on the side of his face that makes him feel worthless. When he sits to have a beer an angel sits down next to him. She is in a costume and her name is Carly and she works for an Alaskan magazine and she is wanting to get Dane Forester interview. The problem is she is not talking to Dane but his brother Ethan, but they are both attracted to one another and this takes both of them by surprise. The night goes along and he is making small talk and then agrees to do the interview when they end up in the penthouse and the interview does not take place, at least not the verbal type. In the morning he is feeling great and bad because he feels he tricked her into thinking that he was Dane, he now wants to come clean and when he does he does not listen to her when she says she is attracted to him. He thinks no one can be attracted to him and he cannot have someone else in his life. Now Carly must come up with ways to make him see that she wants to be with him and that she loves him and somehow that he can open up a little for her or he will die an old and lonely man. This was a good story and I like the characters but Carly was really a strong female and that was good to read. A very good book. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 4 stars. This is the second book in the Alaskan Hero series and I love it. I did not read the first one, which means I now have to go back and do that. This is romance at its best, in a cold climate with tragedy in one of their pasts and love to help them overcome it.
The Forrester family is always there for each other. When Dane, the captain of the NHL hockey team in Alaska is too sick to go to a fundraiser, he convinces his brother Ethan to go in his place. It is a masquerade, so the owners of the team will not know the difference. Ethan, who is scarred from an accident that killed his wife, agrees to go because no one will see his scars. Ethan meets up with a reporter by the name of Carly. She is trying to get an interview with Dane and Ethan agrees to give it to her. What he did not agree to was to have feelings for her. He tells her the truth after spending a wild drunken night together and tells her that he will help her get the interview. The rest of the story is Carly trying to get Ethan to understand that she loves him and wants him, not his brother Dane. The whole Forrester family helps her in anyway they can to get her man. They are tired of Ethan moping around and want him to realize that he is worthy of being loved again. The characters are so very believable and the story flows easily. This is a great series and I am looking forward to more from the Forrester clan!
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Melting his Alaskan heart is such a heartwarming story and when I have had a rough day it's the perfect thing. Carly works as a reporter for a sports magazine, but as her first assignment she is told to get the interview from Dane Forrester or she is done as a reporter. So she dresses as an angel to a charity ball that Dane is supposed to be attending and little does she know that Danes brother Ethan is filling in as him because Dane is too sick. Well they meet at the bar and Carly gets a little too personal and she and Dane end up in bed together, but the next day when she wakes up and finds out that Ethan/Dane has lied to her she says some really unkind words. Ethan already has a problem with his scar on his face and he has also built a wall around his heart after his wife was killed. Carly really likes him for himself but he is so stubborn he can't see it so Carly sets out to try and get him to at least date her. Her attempts involved almost the whole family and it's so nice to see such family love. I just loved Carly's determination and it was a story that made you feel good. I highly recommend this series. Reviewed on behalf of Once upon an Alpha
Book 2 in this series continues on with a terrific story. The Forrester family is so close and always there for each other, so when Dane, the NHL superstar captain, is sick and can't attend a charity event, he calls on his brother Ethan to go in his place. Ethan only agrees to do it because a mask will hide his scars, at least his physical ones and he thinks he can go to the event, make an appearance, and leave without anyone finding out. Ethan didn't plan on meeting Carly. Carly is a reporter who is being forced by her boss to get an interview with Dane even though he never gives interviews and her job depends on it. Ethan is drawn to Carly and they have a connection that neither can resist. Only with the light of day, Ethan realizes Carly believes she was with Dane. When the truth comes out and the rest of the Forrester clan gets involved we find out more about Ethan's past. I loved being able to catch up with the characters from the previous story and look forward to more. The characters are so very believable and the story flows easily. This is a keeper series! Looking forward to more from the Forrester clan!
Digital copy recieved via netgalley in exchange for an honest review
Even though the book is really short, it felt like a whole book to me. I never had the feeling I was missing out anything and there was a lot happening on 134 pages.
Carly is a very independent woman who knows what she wants. I really liked that about her. I also liked Ethan with his troubled past and struggling to lead his life. They made a really nice couple.
The setting of Alaska was absolutely amazing and one of the highlights in the book. The autor captured the atmosphere really well and I could picture everything even though I have never been there.
The writing style of Rebecca Thomas was very captivating and I will definetely look out for more of her books.
What happens when a relationship starts out with a lie? Is there any hope? What if you went to bed thinking you were sleeping with one person and woke up with another?
MELTING HIS ALASKAN HEART by Rebecca Thomas starts out with one of the main characters, Ethan, impersonating Dane his NHL playing brother at a charity event and crossing paths with a reporter hot on the heels of an exclusive interview with Dane. This story has lots of ups and downs as the two characters, Ethan and Carly, work to see if they can overcome their unconventional start, and Ethan's painful past, to forge a real relationship. The story is full of struggle, laughter, romance, and it is easy to fall in love with the characters. Definitely recommend! Looking forward to reading more in this series.
This was supposed to be a short, feel good novella, however, I just couldn’t really like the main guy.
After a tragic accident that killed his wife, Ethan Forrester basically lives in seclusion. Enter famous brother that convinces him to take his place at a masquerade ball and a reporter seeking an interview with said famous brother and we have a whole lot of drama.
Carly was an okay character, except it kept annoying me how she kept going after Ethan even after he made it clear he wanted nothing to do with her. She just continued to take his hot/cold that it got tedious.
Melting His Alaskan Heart by Rebecca Thomas was a wonderful story! I really enjoyed it. It wasn't very long but it packed in a lot of emotion and intensity. The widower who has locked away his heart, confronted by a red-headed vixen who is determined to rescue him from his loneliness might seem somewhat familiar as a plot line, but Ms. Thomas brings it to life and the enchanting environment of an Alaskan winter and the aurora borealis combined with the warmth of a strong and supportive family made the reading of this story time well-spent. I doubt these two will have trouble keeping warm in the dark cold of an Alaskan winter!
I loved reading Melting His Alaskan Heart(Alaskan Hero Book 3), all about Ethan Forrester a part time fire fighter and part owner of the lodge in Gold Creek & Carly a Journalist. They met when Ethan pretended to be Dane at a fundraiser that Dane was sick for. Carly wanted an interview of Dane and Ethan grated it, then in the morning confessed he lied. The author wrote a story about a young woman who is determined to get what she needs both professionally & personally! Read the story about Ethan & Carly and see what happens! I have loved this series from book 1, but I’m disappointed with book 3, I wanted more story about Ethan & ?Carly!
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
Rebecca Thomas wrote another amazing book. This was a stand alone book that I truly enjoyed!
Ethan steps in for his famous hockey brother,Dane, at a costume party where he meets Carly who wants an interview with Dane. Carly didn't know she was talking to Ethan but the next morning Ethan told her who he was. Ethan is widowed and has a hard heart but Carly is determined to break him down.
Melting his Alaskan Heart was very well written book and I didn't want to put it down.
This was just an okay read for me. It was a fast paced, quick connection and fall in love kind of book. I am not sure it really had time to develop. The hero did a lot of pushing away and did a one-eighty kind of turn. The family members were once again cute. I look forward to reading the other brothers' stories. ARC received from the publisher for an honest review.
This was a really fast read, almost novella like. Very cute and sweet. I loved both main characters and the secondary characters rocked, especially Ethan's brothers! Carly, the female lead, was a hoot! I really liked how straightforward she was and how she went after Ethan.
I have fallen in love with each of the brothers. I can feel the fire in the fireplace at the lodge. I love to dream and this author's stories set you up for sweet dreams!
