Every Thousand Years the Cycle of Death Returns

A young psychic named Renee inherits her grandmother’s terrifying powers and summons two hot (and very naked) angels to help her save the world. Paired up with her ex-boyfriend turned vampire, she’s in for a hell of a ride.

Every thousand years the cycle of death comes to claim the three major realms: Earth, heaven, and hell. It’s her turn to chase fate and stop the cycle from devouring her world, bringing heaven and hell down with it.

When the echoes of calamity begin to take form and destroy her beloved Fortune Street, she’ll have to race against the clock to stop her new vision from coming to fruition. Earth in ashes and heaven and hell collapsed in a ball of flames.

Edwin and Devon aren’t the kind of angels she’d expected to conjure with her new gifts for such a monumental task. With Devon’s constant flirting, Edwin’s sexy brooding, and Jeffery’s distracting fangs, she’ll have to hope they’re more useful than they are distracting in the game of chasing fate.

This is a reverse harem story intended for mature audiences. This is a standalone story.

A young psychic, her two protectors, and her dead (ex)boyfriend who is now a vampire. Sounds like a good time. Until I realized that this was shaping up to be a reverse harem story and I don't read those.

Spoilers

The story was interesting but quick. The ending was very disappointing. I certainly wouldn’t have called this a reverse harem when she is left with when guy standing even if the angels needed to return to their realms. I am most sad for Devon. He is a virgin and never got to change that??? Maybe if the story continued and they got to be together I wouldn’t be upset.

Rushed story

Spice: 2/5

This story had so much potential. So much potential. Completely wasted on a novella. This should have been a good 400+ pages, but it was completely rushed to fit into a tiny novella spanning one like 2 days. It’s so obvious this is one of the first books the author wrote. Not to sound cruel, but it’s a try hard book. There at one point is like 2 pages wasted to explain her walking into a store where she got an iffy feeling. It’s overly written as though the author is just like how can I write the sky is blue into a full paragraph. I so wanted this story to be so much more. The MC knows her mom just died and she’s like immediately fine? She finds out she’s the key to saving 3 worlds and she just is like hm okay cool? She gets all these new powers and she just knows how to use them with like no training? I would DNF this book if it wasn’t so short. I pushed through and then I’m hit with an ending like that? What. The. Actual. **** just happened.

An awesome fast paced story that will just grab you from the start! Well written this is filled with magic, angels, demons and vampires as well as a kick ass female mc. Action packed, drama and twists and turns this is a great reverse harem read!

You ever have a dream where you realize you're having the dream but you had zero control of what was happening. That's what's happening to our author here. The story is fast paced, aggressively so, leaving no room for things like exposition or character development.

MC has just lost her mom (who she has known as her grandma her whole life but we ladida past this fact without a believable excuse) and accidentally summons two angels. She knows absolutely nothing about magic at this point and both angels say something along the lines of how it should have been impossible but do we discuss... Nope we plow through. (I should mention that MC has been casually mentioning her BFF and how great and supportive she is but she shoos the friend out the door with some really IQ deficient lies and we never hear about her again)

Next, the angels are said to explain the situation (as in they don't actually explain it, MC just mentions how they said some stuff about it to her in some expositional text. NGL, the blurb explains this in more detail than the book ever will.) and the MC casually mentions that she has a dead boyfriend who died in a really badly thought out drug related accident.

Luckily Lo and behold he (the dead lover) is alive and vampire-tastic. Not just that, he's her third guardian and lover(we find out later that he's the only one she bumps uglies with despite him not being on the book cover)

At this point I developed a nasty headache and I was just done.

This book sucks, the writing style is sloppy and I would call the MC a Mary Sue but I actually like Mary Sue's and only make fun of them ironically to stick it to the man.

The entire book is D-tier Wattpad level mess and should just be gutted and reworked from the concept development up. I would not recommend it to anyone for any reason.

ONE AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!!
Wow! Talk about bending. This is one extremely powerful read that's so riveting it keeps you on the razors edge from start to finish. Thorn totally nailed this bad boy 100% on point. Written with such realism it really pulls this little gem to a whole new level. This is one action packed, hard hitting, pulse racing, heart pounding, nerve racking, nailbitng, page turning bombshell that brings it all roaring to life spectacularly. The characters are complex and believable with such depth and individuality it's easy to relate. The scenes are so graphically detailed and descriptive you have no trouble picturing each scenario as they play off one another perfectly. All the drama, uncertainty, fear, danger and suspense build while tension spirals. Twists and turns abound with unexpected circumstances that make for one thrilling experience. Thorn has really stepped up the game when it comes to imagination, insight and how to weave a story so tightly and realistic it blows your mind. This little dynamo will take you to your knees one second and standing strong the next just to rip your heart apart. You feel everything the characters feel. You become part of the story instead of on the sidelines. Remarkable job Thorn, thanks for sharing this little treasure with us.

Frenetic is the best way to describe this book. It's all over the place. Renee, the female MC is a witch, but has spent her entire life in denial, being raised by the woman she was told was her grandmother, but was actually her mom - who didn't seem to care she was lying to her her entire life, & leaving her unprepared to take on her duties.

Renee "somehow" automatically knows and utters an ancient spell that brings forth 2 angels. 1 from heaven, 1 from hell. Her ex-boyfriend, presumed dead, shows up UNdead, having "faked" his death, or undeath. The angels also lie to her by not telling her that they're only there to unlock her powers, and they'll have to go back where they came from. By the end of the book, when the 2 angels are taken away from her, I was pretty disgusted because the heroine "understands" why everyone lied to her and she forgives them (facepalm) and will find a way to bring back, or see, her angels again, no matter what.

She's left with her vampire ex, who is back in her life and her bed, ugh! I'm done. I don't actually care that there is a series revolving around this situation with other characters. Who WANTS liars back?

This was my first J.R. Thorn book but certainly won’t be my last. Aside from the fact that I now need all I can get of this world, there’s the fact that there is so much going on.

Urban Fantasy is pretty awesome if done right, and this is done right—there are vampires, angels, demons, witches, succubi and more but it’s pretty plausible. Throw in a badass protagonists, loads of action, heat, drama and some real feels and… is there anything this book doesn’t have?

This one’s also served to win me over to RH, as this instance is an example of all the genre can be. Past attempts for me (other authors) revealed no plot, just orgies, basically. If you’re looking for an RH with substance, and real connections, look no further than J.R. Thorn. There was even a fun little twist before it ended; I’d definitely like to see more from this author and read on in this world.

Cover: Beautiful and perfectly relevant.
Formatting: Clean.
Editing/Proofing: Pretty clean proofing-wise and good continuity, decent character development. Well done.

Way too short

I’ll be totally honest, I hate that this was a novella. I think the story itself is quite interesting, but to have it be this short is just a tragedy. There were insignificant parts that had way too much detail, and extremely significant parts that had way too little detail. It left the story feeling rather rushed.

Also for the ending we’re given, I would have expected a follow up book. I read this since it was the first in set in this world, but, man, I just wish it was longer. I enjoyed the entire premise, but I felt like we didn’t get to really know the characters or the world. There’s just too much going on for it to be a novella.

With all that being said, I did devour the book. The upheaval to life that Ren faces in such a short amount of time while still being rather badass is awesome to see. Devon sounds like the best kind of bad boy, and I so hope we get to see more of him.

I would recommend this to those wishing to delve into this universe. I look forward to reading the rest of the series in it!

Put on your seat belt, because this baby is going 0-60 in 2.7 seconds flat. 😂

But seriously though, from the beginning this a quickly paced story. And it really works well if I might say so myself. It fits with the story I mean.

Though I have to say I’m not one for insta love stories, this sure isn’t it. Well..it’s more of an insta attraction which is more feasible. I mean because when you have Angels, Demons and Vampires involved.... insta love is just so not feasible. But insta attraction is more realistic. Am I right?

If you’ve gotten this far, if you can’t already tell I’m totally reviewing this in the middle of the night because I can’t sleep. I just can’t wait until daylight to share my thoughts.

On a real note, this and the other books are great quick reads that won’t disappoint. The writing is great and the characters are dangerous and charming. What’s not to like?

Ok, DNF, TOO JUMBLED

I never lv review if i DNF, but constructive critism here after 26% read. I like the storyline, but dear lord, it bounced around too much, too much happening with no lead in. No time for reaction to one revelation before another thrown out. No wonder the chick was ready to blow, my head would explode too if i had no inkling of anything, then had blow by blow, all bam, bam, bam, hitting me with no backup or time to digest. Unfortunately this made it very difficult to read. If it went a little more smoothly, some background info or even a smidge of it to explain, i think I'd like the story.

What can I say about this book.
It's hard for me because I just lost my mom...
You understand when you read this book.
I loved this book, because it felt so close to me.
I have Tarot cards myself, so I was trilled about that.
I shed a tear, but that was good, that's a good sign.

Where there is life, there is always death.
But where there is love, there is life,
and that is something even death can never take away...

Thank you so much for writing this wonderful book.
xxx Conny

Witches, vampires, angels, demons and the fate of the world

Wow. This book packed a ton into a week’s time. Ren, who didn’t really even believe in magic or supernaturals, goes from a normal girl to the Keymaster, responsible for the fate of four worlds, instantly when her grandmother dies. And her week gets worse from there...
Exciting start to what is sure to be a fun world of outrageous series of books. Can’t wait to read them and find out what happens to Ren and her protectors.

“It’s not changing fate if you beat it to the finish line.”

"This is a standalone story"... with that disappointing ending? I hope not.
This would have been so much better if it had been a whole series by itself and not an obscure prequel to another series I won't bother reading.

You will chase fate, and you will win.

The concept is good. A young witch comes into her powers and needs the help of 3 men. It’s a reverse harem book so I expected the sexual nature. But some of it seemed unnatural. There would be no natural flow between normal scene into sexual scene. I’d like to give another book a chance and hope the rest aren’t as awkward in points. Overall the plot line was good though.

Wow

So when reading this I didn't realize Renee had her own story from her appearances in the other books. This is the start of why the echos of calamity are happening and will also give you insight of why in the other series when Renee meets the other champions she tells them its her fault. We get to meet her mates in this book and also why the aren't with her in others.

I wasn’t interested in reading this book however, it starts off the “world” for a series that I am interested in reading. Now I just need to plow through a few other books to get to what I want.

I didn’t feel that there was any character development, no relationship building and no plot line. This feels like a flashback for a future series.
