Arte de la Guerra #1

War, Unfinished

Rate this book
This is a pitch black villain romance with irredeemable characters. Please check triggers before reading

New York City. Vicious Battlefield. Home.
With a million dollar bounty on my head, it took me years to step foot in the city again. Now I'm back. And the order of business is rather simple.

1. Destroy my reprobate brother.
2. Take back my stolen legacy.
3. Have a goddamn drink in peace.

But I didn't count on meeting her again. The architect of my misfortune and the most beautiful woman I've ever seen—or, the most vile. She puts a wrench in my plans and forces me to add another goal to my list.

1. Noelle DeVille must pay.

She should have stayed dead. I killed her once. I can do it again.
Or… Can I?
My name is Rafaelo Guerra , and this is my war.

War, Unfinished is the first book in the Arte de la Guerra Saga and it's NOT a standalone. It ends on a cliffhanger. Please be advised that this book contains extremely dark themes.

Kindle Unlimited:

This is a branch off from the Morally Questionable series. There are characters from that series that are at play. Said series, is also where we first met Raf. I would say that you can dive into this story, but maybe read Frivolous, if not, you can check out the family tree of the Deville and Guerra clan. With that being said, I’ve said this before, but you have to be a fan of the author’s writing style and the way she constructs her stories when diving in. I think the scales were tipped a lot with the dark content for this one. Read disclaimer noted before opening to first chapter as it should not be taken lightly.

STORY:
WHAT I LIKED:
A tale of two brothers at war and their hate for each other. The story was mainly focused on RAF, but I love that we were getting POV of both RAF and Michele. It’s slow burn-ish as we are getting a build up from both sides. The story focuses on the revenge because of what Michele did that led to this feud, and the secondary focus was on both females in their life’s.

Michele is giving me sinister vibes. Michele’s triggers are: narcissistic, narcissist abuse, manipulative, grooming, gaslighting (major gaslighting) and violent and probably still missing a few.

He is a very intense character. In the first chapter Michele will turn your stomach with his thoughts and how he views and uses female X. If you make it past the first chapter, congrats, maybe you will be able to deal with his sinister ways as the story progresses, because it gets worst. He is in my top 3 most intense and crazy villains of 2022 so far.

Rafaelo is giving me, I definitely want revenge vibes on all sides. Very scarred as he was sold not once, but twice and he has never been the same. Raf’s character hits a little different for me, because this is someone I’ve come to know from Morally Blasphemous and a little more in Morally Ambiguous. His interactions with Noelle are very interesting, as you will discover, they both have a past that intertwines. Although he wants revenge with regards to Noelle, I liked the way he started doing this with her family around. I found it kind of funny at times as dark as this story was. Noelle, I can not even tell you how strong this female character is for all that was endured. It is going to tear at you and it will be hard.

WHAT WAS SO SO:
I did not really have any issues. I will say that I thought in the beginning that we would get a bit of detailed flashback into Noelle and Raf’s past, however, this book can be intense with the content matter that I am glad we were not taken on that ride.

SEXUAL CHEMISTRY
I will not even rate or touch Michele for this one. I will only say this, at around 60-ish%, for Michele, be very mentally prepared for what you are about to read. Raf and Noelle they started out not liking each other, but watching their connection grow, I liked it. Especially with their trauma, this was done well.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
It was good seeing a few faces from MB and MA. It connects with Raf’s past, so no complaints. Also Gianna from Frivolous, it was nice to see how she fits in. The secondary characters helped to keep the story flowing and that’s also a plus. I definitely found Cisco, Noelle’s brother an interesting character individually and when he is around his wife. He gave me hero vibes but low key villain-ish vibes sometimes.

OVERALL:
Was I entertained? Yes.
Did I like the story? Yes. LONGGGG, but yes.
Would I read the other books in the series? Yes.

TRIGGERS: rape (from both sexes) descriptive and talked about, abortion, cruelty, child/infant death, domestic abuse and torture, abuse drugs, drug use, degrading, non con, dub con, etc. I have to stress, the contents gets very dark and really can be triggering, especially if one has experience anything noted in this book, read at your own risk.

NOTES: No cheating

****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.

Safety update

My heart and head hurt after reading this

She wasn't kidding when she said that this series was going to go in a much different direction than her other books

Probably one of the most intense books I have ever read.

Not for the faint of heart, and definitely not for readers who are looking for redeemable heroes or fluffy romance: there are no heroes, only villains.

There is so much to say that I don't even know where to start.

I thought the hate between the 2 brothers was entertaining and having the author depict one who was an utter villain, while the other as an anti-hero that still held on to some moral ground made it even more interesting.

Before going into this, I was looking forward to Michele because I thought he was a much more interesting character to explore, I mean he is the "villain" of the story, BUT I also thought I would fall for Rafaelo more after reading this book because the author did say he was less villainous as compared to Michele, and he did seemed to have this sweeter side to him when I read Morally Ambiguous.

I don't like it when heroes are kinda hot and cold and I felt that Rafaelo was REALLY hot and cold about what he wanted and that kinda translated to his attitude towards Noelle. Especially since Rafaelo seems to take on this extremist attitude towards Noelle where he thinks if this happened there is no other explanation, it's like not everything is black and white and his hate towards Noelle is like that at the start. It was extremely hard to deal with.

He HATED Noelle, and while I could kinda understand it, I think what bothers me a bit more is the motivation of it. It mostly stemmed from him thinking that Noelle killed the girl he loved from the past, so it kinda irks me, because whatever mean things he did to Noelle, It felt like a translation of his love for Lucero, maybe if the motivation was different I would not have been AS annoyed.

Though I have to admit their back and forth because of the "hate" was hella entertaining to read.

However, I still felt Noelle was kinda too forgiving towards Rafaelo after the things he did to her. The man literally almost drowned her (but couldn't do it) because of his love for another person, so It made me hard to love him at all despite the sweet things he did to Noelle after he realize she is not the one that caused Lucero's death

And I'm glad at the end Noelle kinda realize that.

I think this part summed it up perfectly

I wanted him so much, I was willing to overlook every red flag. I was willing to put aside the past and just look at the future. But the past can never be overlooked, since it dictates the future. That was my first mistake. My second was being too desperate for anyone to see me as more than a lunatic. To see me as a human being—a woman. A flesh and blood woman, with wants and desires. A woman worthy of love.

I guess her forgiveness towards him makes sense because she has always been treated as someone crazy or never important and Rafaelo despite treating her badly, was able to receive acceptance quite quickly from her after he showed remorse, and she kinda gave in emotionally after that; Would have liked her to hold back more UNTIL he proved through his action that he was remorseful.

BUT I do believe that Lucero is somehow or someway Noelle, I am going to trust the author on this because I genuinely don't believe she will make her story unsafe(triggers aside)

I think what bother me most was Rafaelo's hot and cold attitude, it felt like he did not know what he wanted, and I just like it when heroes are clear in what they want; be it in his rivalry with his brother or his romance with Noelle

This is just me but I like it when there is clear communication and intention in what the hero wants (it's a pet peeve for me, especially because I am majoring in communication, and we prioritize clear communication)

There was also this small part that I felt kinda highlights Rafaelo's inadequacy in his communication; Noelle was asking Rafaleo Who Asisi is to him and he is just like"Did I.... Noelle, I don't see how that's any of your business," And then after that, they kinda fight and everything and he explains after which he later ask for forgiveness for not knowing how important this matter was to her.

But like it was a simple question, and like the heroine says "See, you could have said that from the beginning. I don't understand why we had to fight over it."

Like EXACTLY 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯

There is quite a lot of emotional jealousy from the heroine because of "Lucero"Though I still believe Lucero is Noelle.

So I think it's kinda clear who I am rooting for now.

And oh my god, Michele is THE villain. Like the author did not hold back when she said that we were going to HATE him.

His scenes with the heroine made the book absolutely emotional toiling, intense, angsty and just heartbreaking to read.

As compared to Rafaelo, Michele was never hot and cold, even towards his heroine. It's like even though he is hurting people he at least knows who he is? and he just keeps going forward, as compared to Rafelo who is still struggling with everything around him, INCLUDING how Noelle makes him feel, while Michele kinda just be like FK everything for his revenge (Including the heroine🥲).

I think the author did the most fantastic job on Michele's character. He was truly a villain. God, the things he did, even made me hate him. However, the author was able to intertwine the thoughts of his more vulnerable and more anxious side of him, which only happens because of his heroine; whether it is because of something the heroine did or said, it made him think and waver, and those moments are especially symbolic since he was a literal Villian throughout the story. It also helps that he is Asexual, and the heroine is the only person he can feel turned on by.

And even though he did a few things that are absolutely VILE, like absolutely disgustingly diabolic to the heroine, the glimpse of the vulnerable side the author showed us about him makes a small part of you want to root for them despite that.

He felt like a broken villain you can't help but root for, especially since everyone is on Rafaelo's side while Michele goes solo.

In some way, I hold a certain admiration for how he can just keep heading in the direction he is steering even though it is leading him straight to disaster and even forsaking the happiness he could have with his heroine if he just reached out.

In all, I just want to say that the author's storytelling is amazing, I was absolutely entertained throughout this entire journey of reading her book, and I DID NOT STOP, it is an extremely THICK book, like 700+ pages but lt felt like absolute NOTHING. The author really knows when to pull the readers because she PULLS. I didn't think I had the facial muscles to experience so much range of emotions before.

Also, it's a dark book, there is a shit ton of trigger warnings in it: ableism, abuse, attempted rape, abortion, blood (gore), bullying, blood play, cancer, death, derogatory terms, descriptive child abuse/child death, descriptive rape, drugs, fat shaming, guns, extreme graphic violence, extreme graphic sexual situations, extreme depictions of torture, gaslighting, grooming, homophobia, incestuous situations, infertility, kidnapping, knife play, murder, mental illness, non-con/dubcon, necrophilia, ritualistic killing (gore), self-harm, substance abuse, suicide, uncomfortable religious situations.

She did not hold back one bit.

Safety:
Rafaelo is a V, Noelle is not a V(At least Physically)
Michele is a V(I thought he wasn't from his thoughts in the first chapter, but it's confirmed by the author that he is actually a V too and that he is Asexual) His heroine is a V.

Dec 20, 2021:
I will literally cheat, lie and kill to see Michele's grovelling scenes.

The first chapter was just a sneak peak to the ANGST that is going to come my way.

I am prepared to get my heartbroken, and that means I ain't going to miss out a thang when that scene hit the page😤

I am ready for it ALL

I quickly wanted to write a review because I was too excited to talk and praise War, Unfinished. But I had to stop myself from writing a review too quickly and not do enough justice to this book. This is yet another masterpiece by Veronica, and I don’t know how she’s done this, but I LOVE every main character in War, Unfinished! I don’t know how she creates such characters that affect me so potently.

Firstly, I have to say that I believe this is Veronica’s magnum opus.

I’ve never been this captivated by a book before. It was almost impossible for me to put down the book during the first read because there was always something new and crazy and exciting going on that I couldn’t stop. I fell asleep reading War, and when I woke up, I began reading War once again. I’ve done countless rereads, and each time I experienced some new emotion, I found a new clue. I would say when you are reading this, rather when you’re reading all of Veronica’s books, always take your time with the first read. I fell in love. I cried, I cursed, I got my heart broken, all while having my heart full of so much love for every character. I would gladly let Veronica annihilate my heart with her words because they are worth it.

I don’t know how to begin describing how much I love the couples, much less the guys!! I am OBSESSED!! Raf and Noelle have such a spicy angst going on……they set the pages on fire 🥵🥵🔥🔥They have heart-pounding, heated types of banter where one minute you’re all caught up in Noelle’s feisty’s nature, and then the next, you’re seduced by Raf’s SEXY INTENSITY!! God, he can make a girl melt……add so many drool emojis here. Besides being sexily intense, Raf is such a sweetheart!! He makes you swoon so many times, and I don’t know how but some of the things he does it HOT and hilarious. Cue the scene where he got his first taste…wink….cue the scene where he ran out naked. But besides all my love for Raf, there’s no one who could ever be a better match for Raf than his Noelle. They complement each other perfectly, and they are one of Veronica’s dreamiest couples.

Moving on to MY GUY MICHELE!!!! Okay, fine, he’s not truly my guy; he belongs to someone else, but I wish he was. But let’s talk about Michele and his lady. Once you all read the book, you’ll find out who his mystery lady is. I have to say, I most likely annoyed Veronica to the max with the number of messages I sent to her about Michele. I couldn’t and can’t stop thinking and talking about him. Let me say you will HATE him, but GOD will you LOVE him. I don’t know how Veronica did this, but I love and hate Michele. This is the first time I have ever experienced these two emotions together so ferociously, and I don’t know what to do with it. I can tell you, though, once you read all the scenes with Michele, he is going to forever be in your thoughts!! He is the sexy, aggravating man that I want!! I think I cried the hardest for his scenes. There were moments when you hated him, but that followed such heartbreaking moments that you ended up loving him twice as hard. Some scenes were so vivid you felt all emotions, all the pain, specifically pain for his lady, but then you felt Michele’s emotions and his pain, OMGG, and this is where that maddening love/hate comes in. I can’t stop talking about it! But let’s talk about one scene, in particular, a restaurant scene!! Jesus Christ, that scene is HOT!!!! It is HOT HOT HOT!!!!! It was such a short scene, but sometimes I wonder if it was the hottest scene in the entire book! I loved it, and I’m obsessed with it.

War, Unfinished is the ultimate intense and emotion-provoking book I’ve ever read. Once again, when you read it, please don’t forget to take your time experiencing this journey Veronica is going to take you on. Fall in love, in lust, in hate. Stock up on your tissues because you are going to need them. And let me declare this: Raf and Michele are MY GUYS! I love them too much!!

An ARC was received in exchange for an honest review!! My review is as honest as they come because I can’t fake these emotions and feelings Veronica’s words make me experience!! Thank you to Veronica for creating this masterpiece and for bringing a sense of peace amongst the chaos (in the book and in real life) with your words!! Thank you for creating characters that I continue to fall in love with!!

I AM SHOCKED! after the longest reading slump ever, Veronica Lancet saved me as always with her dark dark dark tales. Brief characters analysis————-

🚫🚫🚫possible spoilers below 🚫🚫🚫

* Cisco + Yuyu
- while Yuyu was a very interesting character and her persona very different from her past occupation, she still kinda of fell flat for me, but i’m not ruling out an interesting novella backstory
- Cisco was an ass and not even a hot brooding ass, just bland, thinks he’s better than everyone vibes
- was willing to let his sister die, repeating “save my wife first” mantra the entire story, like do you have no inclination to save your blood at all?

* MICHELE + Zia
- FOR A MAN WITH NO PERSONALITY OR FEELINGS, he was 300% more interesting than Rafaelo, despite how vile, evil, disgusting and pathetic excuse of a human being he was with his actions in his few chapters
- He’s truly dispocable as the antagonist, but his actions and him blaming Rafaelo for why he became the way he turned form being an innocent hopeful talented artist who still loved his little brother despite the abusive stepmother, to an evil killer willing to destroy any and everyone LIKE WHAT IN DETAIL DID RAFELO FO I CANT WAIT TILL DECEMBER TO FIND OUT, just his innocence in the childhood flashbacks made me tear up with how they viewed him as a monster bc of cancer and beat him oh my god😭
- maybe an unpopular popular opinion BUT I LOVED ZIA, and while you can be annoyed at her character for giving up control, when you remember her upbringing by her innocence of the world is justified
- Despite Zia being displayed as a sort of pushover with her utter submission towards a man who shows her 0 respect, i still want to know so much more about her
- like how the actual fuck does Sisi, Marcello, Lina not help this girl out and notice what’s been going on, i mean we saw her struggling in the previous books and i think they hired a tutor or something but clearly see in this book everyone’s obvious to her suffering,
- like for a mafia family with eyes everywhere and people reporting on one another you’d think they’d know form teachers or the school how their sister is getting seriously bullied and physically assaulted on the daily, that just pisses me off that the very end of the book Vlad and sisi show up for some justice
- 🚫 also maybe i’m slow and i think i caught on that zia and michele are related somehow bc of his real father is what the cliffhanger implied?

* Rafaelo + Noelle
- loved her and how she never took Cisco’s bullshit
- my heart broke for her during the flashbacks and i don’t blame her for what she had to do to survive
- enjoyed noelles chapters and seeing her finally reach some happiness at times and her hellion attitude
- Rafaelo first intrigued me, but now i despise him and his need to live in the past despite promising a future to someone else
- I liked him and loved the way he treated Noelle but the progression of their relationship felt too good to be true the entire story

Wow! I literally just finished this book seconds ago and I already want the next one! The wait is going to kill me 😭😭

Going into this book, I totally had no idea what to expect, so the direction it went in totally shocked me!…and it’s not easy to do that.

I felt like a total detective when I figured out who Michele’s heroine is! Although, is she a heroine if he’s a villain 🤔🤔

Now…our “heroes” I went through phases with both of them, but their current state in my mind at the end of the book..is that I HATE THEM BOTH BUT I ALSO WANT TO LOVE THEM

I started off hating both Michele and Raf, then for some reason (hint hint it’s because I like toxic men) I loved Michele more, and then I went back to hating both😁

And Noelle, my heart breaks for her! I want so many good things for her and I hope we get to see those things happen for her soon!

After reading, and analyzing every little word, I have a feeling that everything isn’t as it seems🧐 Or maybe that’s wishful thinking and I’m just hoping things aren’t what they seem😂

Keep in mind when you read this, that it is a series, so it does end on a MAJOR cliffhanger! The kind that it’s going to kill you to wait for the next book, just like it’s killing me🥲

Also, please seriously consider the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book, there aren’t a lot of things that make me uncomfortable in books but some things that happened in here truly made me uncomfortable, so please please read those triggers before you decide to read.

While it’s not required to read Veronica’s other books in order to read this series, I would HIGHLY recommend it! Not only because I love those books, but also it will give you a LOT of context to things that happen in this book.

Ms. Veronica did an AMAZING job with this book, and all the little details she put in just made the book! As I’ve stated in other reviews, I LOVE long books so the length of this was just perfect for me 😍 Even though it’s long, I didn’t find myself skimming at all! I was truly enraptured with everything that was going on and didn’t want to miss anything. This wasn’t just a long book for the sake of the author having a long book, it was actually packed with important details and great scenes.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Now to comfort myself for having to wait until December to read more, I will go reread my faves, Vlad and Sisi❤️

BLURB
𝑯𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒂 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒎𝒂𝒏…𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒖𝒑𝒐𝒏 𝒂 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆.
Betrayed by his own brother and sold into human slavery, Rafaelo Guerra learned the hard way that good was overrated.
Emotions that weighed him down disappeared. Beliefs that stood in his way turned to dust. Hands that held a pen were now hands that killed.
There was only one purpose left—revenge.
But the road to hell is paved with seductive temptations. And his was a stunning woman from his past who'd destroyed what little was left of his heart.

𝑰𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝒔𝒊𝒏…𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒊𝒈𝒈𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒓.
Michele Guerra was rotten to the core. The target of everyone's vitriol, he learned from a young age to stop feeling. Instead of proving people wrong, he proved them right.
Emotions were for the weak. Beliefs were made to be challenged. And the blood on his hands became the blood he needed to survive.
He was the most hated man alive—a praise he didn't take lightly. And by the time he made it to his grave, he wanted everyone to share that sentiment.
Including her—his maddening addiction—and a pawn in his perfect plan.
The only one for whom he'd been a hero, not a villain.

This was so so good. The length certainly scared me at first considering much shorter books a lot of time bore the shit out of me. However, in this case, I wasn't bored even for a min nor did I ever skim a bit. This might as well be my favorite book of the year so far.
Definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

Coming to the characters, this follows mainly four characters throughout their journey though we only rlly get 3 POVs. There's brother no 1 Raf and his eternal love Noelle. Noelle rlly made the book worthwhile for me. She's so strong and full of love in spite of the abuse she's suffered for so long. I loved the shit out of her. Raf was equally sweet but I not for once bored he's as innocent as he portrayed himself to be. There's certainly a lot of things he's been hiding.
Michele on the other hand (bro no 2), could definitely be described as the "villain" though I found myself getting more and more attached to him as the story unfolded. He's a product of his environment and despite all his maniac tendencies, we sometimes get to see little flashes of a vulnerable boy who's never known anything but pain. (He just needs love y'all🙁). Zia (his love interest), despite coming across as meek had a lot of strength as well imo. I can definitely see her coming out of her shell later on.

Honestly, I don't have a thing I hated abt this book. Not even a peep. I've been sleeping on this author being that I've only ever read two of her books including this but I'm definitely excited to get started w the other ones.

"You're my little piece of heaven, Noelle. And I won't let anyone take you from me. If I have to take on the fucking world," he pauses, taking a deep breath, almost as if seeking to calm himself. "I'll do it. I'll fucking do it."

"You can only enjoy something if you know its worth. You can only see happiness if you've known misery."

"We're always going to be the bad guy in someone's life."

Ms. Lancet is a new to me author and I’m thrilled I discovered her.
This book was so good!
Complex, action packed and original.
It was a definite page turner that had my heart rate skyrocketing and I was on the edge of my seat.
The characters are multilayered and intriguing.
The plot is intense and absolutely stunning.
I loved the writing style of the author.
She tells the story in the points of view of each main character.
Which made the plot that just more alluring and gave me a front row seat to the characters mind set.
The dynamics of the families are dysfunctional and jaw dropping.
To say that I’m hooked and want more is an understatement!
So I’m waiting on pins and needles for War Unjust.
And an fyi I’ve read reviews where it’s mentioned that Michele and Raf were introduced in a previous series, I had absolutely no problems following and understanding this book.
Ms. Lancet gave so much details and info that I don’t feel I missed out on anything major ❤️

Can't wait to show this to my shrink 😍

The author was not playing around.

Every single trigger warning is to true to the words. And the most beautiful thing about it is the way all of them has been tackled— with careful, thoughtful and sincere precision. Nothing, not a single thing, in the book was done half-assedly. Not. A. Single. Thing.

The characters, true to the author's warnings, are villains. I have just one thing to say about them: "I hate you. But I love you".

READ THIS BOOK. I cannot stress it enough that you need to read this book.
What. A. Ride.
The tension, chemistry and anger between Raf and Noelle is 🥵🥵 slow-ish burn but ohhhhhhhh it burns so, so hot when it gets there.
I mean…… this man. Swoon.

"I'll be your last," he interrupts. "And I'll be the only one you remember," his voice is full of confidence as he tips my chin up. "I'll be the only one to worship your body and care for you like you were meant to be cared for—like a f%^king goddess. Because that's what you'll be to me. My goddess."

Every time I thought I knew what going to happen and that I’d figured it out - plot twist and another plot twist.
I could not put this book down and I was honestly afraid to finish it because I was either going to cry, scream or be absolutely stunned.

And I was all three. I am shook.
I need answers and I need book 2 like yesterday.

This is a DARK romance. Don’t go into this blind - check the Content Warnings. It’s a fantastic story with an ever-evolving plot and characters that you either love to love or love to loathe.

This is the start of a dark family saga telling the tale of two brothers who are at war with one another. As the first book, it sets a solid foundation of the dark themes and tones of the whole series. Take heed of the warning because there are a LOT of triggers. The series focuses on 4 characters/2 main couples.

● Rafaelo and Noelle
Initially an enemies to lovers trope, their story is filled with suspense and mystery delving constantly into their past. It's apparent as more secrets get uncovered, that not everything is as it seems. Tethered by trauma & a shared dark history, both are well suited on the surface. Their story is only about to get uglier as the series goes on and the past is unveiled. Shit will hit the fan and I'm all here for it.

● Michele and X
THEY.CARRIED.
Oh, how I've missed pure villains like Michele where you think 'well, damn how will you get out of this one?'. He's unpredictable, monstrous and quite simply put he's unhinged because he's a man who has nothing to lose. His chapters were so addictive to read and I couldn't get enough. I wouldn't describe the relationship between Michele and his girl as romance in the typical sense but they had something that deeply connected them (*cough* we're talking besides THAT thing... if you know, you know), like they were a mirror for one anothers soul. The bad boy/innocent girl/'who did this to you?'/'touch her and you die' vibes emanating from him made my blood sing and I can't wait to see their relationship evolve because if he was this insane now, I can't imagine what he's like later on. Be right back, getting ready for Michele's grovelling era.

To summarise: I loved it. Gave me a damn bookhangover. Michele.Is.Mine

3,5 ⭐

I still have to gather up my emotions about this book, but I liked a few things, while I hated others! I empathized with all the characters, but at the same time they felt so far away from me and the two storyline are interesting yet a bit confusing. Let's if it changes in the second installment!

Veronica Lancet's writing style is really particular, but it worked perfectly in this book!

This is the first book I have read from this author, and it won't be the last.
Veronica writes a very good villain in Michele, he is ruthless, unforgiving, and brutal at times. A true psychopath.
Rafaelo Guerra had a devastating and heartbreaking past, he was sold and treated as a slave, and it was ferocious and violent. How he survived is beyond me, but survive he did. And now he has a mission to fulfill, take back what was rightfully his, and to make his brother pay for what he has done.
Heed the warnings in this book, it is dark and deprived, but oh so awesome to read!

Brothers at war, revenge, lies and betray run deep between Raf and Michele.
The story has you captivated from the start, the depths of detail, mystery, suspense, intrigue pile up and take you on ride through their thoughts, feelings, highs and lows. you wont be able to put this one down and it leaves you craving part 2 like yesterday!
This is book 1 of their story and deals with dark themes.

This book took me on the emotional rollercoaster of my life! The author promised dark, and man did she deliver! It was beautiful, tragic, unsettling, jaw-dropping, and yes, steamy as hell!

In the beginning, I didn't think I would be able to make an emotional connection with Raf, Noelle, or Michele, but as I kept reading and new information came to light, I found myself dropping my 'literary guard.' Each time they would do something....less than ideal, I found myself trying to rationalize what they did, because there has to be a perfectly good reason why, right?

I think what I loved most about this book was the no holds barred approach to this book. It was beautifully written without feeling like the author wanted to make this book into the darkest storyline ever written, and it felt natural within the storyline. I also loved how Raf was portrayed. The conflicting emotions he feels towards Noelle were chaotic but also real, and his inexperience paired with the alpha way he acts towards Noelle was a really refreshing take on a MMC.

The cliffy is a brutal one, so excuse me while I browse by TBR to find something to cure this book hangover.

This book!!!
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was absolutely enthralled!!
The way the story of two entirely different brothers weaves around and intertwines is delicious. You think you can see the ending and it’s ripped away.
It’s dark, with some utterly unconscionable scenes.
The soup - wait til you get to the soup.
I will be (im)patiently waiting for the rest of the story - I cannot see how one of the brothers can be redeemed.

This review will be separate in two parts: one, i freaking out and another i pretend that i’m civilized and imparcial (don’t have any of one this characteristics, but here we go kkk).
Part one:
WHAT THE H*LL IT’S GOING ON??????
I’m crying, freaking out and looking in the wall thinking what’s happened. Veronica wrote 900 pages so well that i couldn't see the time passing. Here we have the story of two brothers, that hate each other and start a war between families and criminals in the NY.Rafaelo it’s supposed to be the good brother (but definitely there are more in him story, until 30% of the book i cursed him, i confess kkkk). Michele don’t have salvation (but he has me, and i defend him and use every excuse for him kkkkkk)- he is i like to call evil genius (and i always love the bad guys and villains, so i loved him so much). I screamed , crying and cursed characters (yes, Cisco, i hated him, but Veronica always wrote something that makes me like the character, so i waiting for his story). I love this book so much and i can’t wait for december.

Part two:
This book it’s really good. The way the author writes good characters, the scenarios and plot- everything have a connection and a motive for, and everything makes sense in some point of the narrative. Plus, the mix of first person and third person in some chapters is so well writing and makes sense, it’s difficult writing in third person, but Veronica did so well that i even didn't' realize sometimes. This book it’s dark, but with a emotional charge more pronounce then her others books. Michele, definitely is the most complex character from the author and i loved every chapter with him (with all the mess and inner conflicts). It’s a amazing book and i just have to thanks for the author for this.

⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️There is a whole page of trigger warnings that come with this book.
Believe me and those warnings. It should not be taken lightly.⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️

Not once did it deter me from reading it. I was captivated.
Glued to my screen!

A brilliance of Manipulation Lies, betrayal, utterly Brutal scenes and downright craziness played out on my screen but for the life of me I couldn't put it down.

Rafaelo Guerra was a true surprise. He was nothing I had expected. He grew on me. I found myself praying for him to get a happy ending even though this book wasn't about that. Same goes for Noelle.

I cannot wait for book 2....
The cliffhanger left me absolutely hanging.

Veronica Lancet is an author to watch for. This book was a twisted tale but bloody well done. 👏👏

940 pages of pure dark goodness

I can't believe I read a book this long. It's probably the longest book ive ever read but wow... it was so different than anything ive ever read but in a good way
It took me two days to finish it but it was so worth it. I ate up every word and still wanted more. December can't come soon enough 😭
For a book this long every little scene was so important it adds to the character build up and their dynamics. It all explodes at the end and more questions got thrown my way
I think I know some of the answers, but some I'm doubting myslef and can't wait to find out .
What I loved the most avout this is how seemless the plot built with the two couples and how different they were from each other. My favourites were Noelle and Raf. I'm still unsure about michele but I want to love him so much🙏

But the twist at the end? chefs kiss
I went back and there were so many clues leading up to it but they were all so sneaky. Just when I had a suspicion, there would be a little line to throw me off .
It was almost like the book was lying to me and telling me the truth at same time and i thought that clever

‼️ Check TW

I have mixed feelings about this book. At 30% in, I was sure it was going to become a favorite, but it didn't. Let me explain! The story is great and I'll explain my reasons for the 3.5⭐ and why it didn't become a favorite.

I'll start by saying that if you like enemies to lovers, where H tries to kill h, this book IS FOR YOU!! And for me 😍 I loved Noelle and I loved Raf but only while they were enemies It's true that he tried to redeem himself for what he did but it wasn't enough for everything he did to Noelle (from my point of view). This is the first reason.

The second reason has to do with repetition (this book has 930 pages!) Although it is a huge book it reads very well because something is always happening, however, there are many times when the author repeats things like : "I'm so lucky that she forgave me", "I don't deserve her", "I'm nothing without him".... And when I say she repeats it many times, it's really in every chapter!

BUT if you are willing to ignore these two reasons, this book is perfect! It tells the story of two brothers who are driven by revenge.

And I just know that I know nothing because that ending left me 😱🤯 and I just want to read the second one! I also add that I had never read a book that made me suspicious of everyone. I really don't know what to believe!!

I recommend it and I'm looking forward to the sequel!!

Edit- July 7, 2022

I’m changing my rating. It’s been almost a month since I finished it and I still can’t stop thinking about its characters, so yes, it safe to say this book DEFINITELY left an impact. 5 stars! Can the next book release already? The suspense is killing me.

————————
4.5 stars.
4 stars for the overall story. Additional 0.5 for the way Michele's povs were written. It took me almost two whole weeks to finish this 900+ page book, but it was so worth it. Definitely one of my favourite reads from the year. But this is absolutely NOT for everyone.

There are 2 pages of just trigger warnings alone. Let that tell you something.

I wanted to give this 5 stars but Raf and Noelle's cringey kinda bogged down this book, ngl. Like the angst and sexual tension was perfect till halfway, then they became way too vanilla and corny for my liking. There were chapters I skipped in the middle because I didn't need to keep reading their grand proclamations of love.. yeah you both love each other or whatever, we get it. But regardless, the enmity between the brothers and the relationship between Michele and his "pet" kept me hooked till the end.

Even though the main characters for this book are Raf and Noelle, the story always somehow revolves around Michelle and his sinister plans. Those chapters were also the most interesting to read. Raf-Noele made me yawn, but Michele and Pet made me sit up straight and binge chapter after chapter. This book is NOT a romance, btw. He literally targets her, gaslights her, and grooms her for revenge. He also forces her to abort their baby and then the sick fuck serves her a soup made from the dead baby.

So yeah, that's Michele, so be prepared.

Michele is a monster of the cruelest kind, but the flashback version of him is so completely different. I can't help wondering what did Raf do that turned a sweet innocent angel of boy into blood-thirsty satan reincarnated. He is one of the most complex, most revolting character I have ever read, but I loved reading his povs so much. It was so fascinating to see how his twisted mind works, and those little moments of vulnerability he shows no one. How did two brothers who would die for each other become so estranged and cruel?

Cannot wait for the next books. The cliffhanger was so brutal. And that bonus chapter?? Oooh VL knew what she was doing. Michele's biggest dream was celebrating his birthday with his brother, sister and lover. And when he wakes up every night and realises he has no one to care for him. I hate that guy, but I couldn't help my heart from breaking a little there. He does not deserve their care or forgiveness at all for all the horror that he did to them, but I do wonder.. what if things had been different? What if that mysterious horrible past hadn't happened at all? What if Michele had gotten the love he deserved as a child?

The next book is from his pov, so yay, I'll get to see more of how his mind works, and why he did the things he did.

Conclusion: A+ story. BUT SUPER SUPER SUPER DARK!! DO NOT READ!!

I received an arc of this book for an honest review.

This book is delicious I devoured it as quickly as I could. This book has a lot of triggers so I strongly recommend reading the trigger warnings first if you have no triggers then I would suggest going into this book blind and you will not be disappointed. This story ends on a cliff hanger but it will keep you guessing for the next installment. This book is pretty dark so if your looking for something very romantic then this isn't the story for you but if you love darkness as much as I do then this book is perfect for you to devour. I cannot wait for the next book this author is becoming another one of my favourites and I will most definitely be reading more from her.

Well damn, I don’t even know where to start. This story was intense and dark. Veronica has outdone her self with this story truly. Raf, Noelle, Michele and his “pet” will take you on a emotionally charged roller coaster. This story has it all and I mean it all. I wish the second book was out. I’m dying to know what happens next. I have become so emotionally invested in this story and you definitely will want this book on your shelf. I loved it, thank you Veronica for a phenomenal read. And I’m anxiously awaiting what comes next.

❖ 𝐑𝐀𝐅𝐀𝐄𝐋𝐎 𝐆𝐔𝐄𝐑𝐑𝐀 & 𝐍𝐎𝐄𝐋𝐋𝐄 𝐃𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐄

⏣ 𝐖𝐀𝐑, 𝐮𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝, arte de la guerra by veronica lancet
⁑ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

» enemies-to-lovers
» mafia romance
» arranged marriage
» DARK Romance

➵ Before I start, I want to make it clear that this book is dark. what I'm going to say about it will make you want to read? perhaps, but know that it is completely unlike anything that has ever been written. there is a lot of pain, a lot of ugliness, a LOT of triggers. so be careful if you decide to read. i don't say in vain or because I've never read anything really dark. i have, and this book is one of the more obscure ones.

❝𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐟 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 ... 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐧'𝐦 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫.❞

➵ The plot of the book involves mafia, betrayal, WAR, and so many twists! I love Michele (more on him below) and the relationship between all the characters in this book. The way the story unfolds is amazing. The book has 938 pages (in the kindle ebook) and despite being a long book, it is not tiring or boring. I fell in love with Veronica Lancet's writing and I can say that I became her #1 fan! I'm currently reading the sequel and I can say that the war between the guerra brothers is far from over.

❝𝐀 𝐭𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐢𝐬, 𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐤, 𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐞𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭.
❛𝐈 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮,❜ 𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐭. ❛𝐈 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐟𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮.❜ ❞

➵ Noelle and Raf's story begins with a common one, but as the pages go by, we delve deeper into the characters, their pasts and their present, hating and provoking each other. I love their relationship, even when Raf wanted to end her life, they had chemistry even before they got together.

❝ ❛𝐈𝐭'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠,❜ 𝐈 𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲. ❛𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧'𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐟 𝐢'𝐯𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚 𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐦, 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭?❜ ❞

➵ Noelle may seem shallow and a common dark romance character but as you read and discover about her past, you realize you are incredibly wrong. Especially after reading the second book (War, Unjust) she has a MASSIVE evolution and everything about her comes together like a puzzle. I really loved her, she's one of my favorite fmcs EVER! I love her narrations and I admit that I identified myself in several very questionable and unhealthy scenes.

❝𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐦𝐞 𝐝𝐨.
𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮.❞

➵ Rafaelo is a good boy. Or not. No one is that good and that's one of the things I've never doubted since I entered the world of dark romance. Despite that, he is, in fact, a nice guy. I love Rafaelo and how he treats Noelle when they are together. Their romance is beautiful and Raf takes good care of their relationship.
He is, in some ways, a sad character. I hate his backstory and how fragile I felt reading some scenes because they really hurt. And messed with Raf's head. I mostly hate drugs. I love Raf. He’s well written and SO complex.

❝ ❛𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩, 𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐨. 𝐇𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝, ❜ 𝐈 𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐮𝐥. ❛𝐈𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐮𝐩 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧❜ ❞

➵ Michele Guerra is the best character. He is vile, a bastard, the worst of men. I can't name the bad things he did because there are so many, and they were terrible things. It doesn't stop me from loving him. Not in a romanticized way, Michele won my heart. My dark black heart is filled with thoughts of him and his story. He is not an easy character and definitely most will hate him. He's that bad. Despite everything, Veronica made him extraordinary. I love that he's so smart, sexy and mean. His brain catches my attention because he can think of things that no human being should be able to. He goes beyond the rules, he lives in his own way.

WOW!!!! Like what the fluck did I just read?!?!?!
Please read the triggers for this book. Especially if you are one for triggers or are unsure. This book is not one you should dive into if you can’t handle dark stuff. BECAUSE THIS BOOK IS FLUCKEN EPICALLY DARK!!!😈 So please read the triggers.
I can’t wait to read the next book because WOW! It was a huge roller coaster of crazy 💩! From the first chapter to the epilogue, you will really be flabbergasted. I was pissed a lot of the time because some of these characters will make you want to beat the fluck out of them through the book. I had a lot of anxiety with this book….but in the good way!
War, Unfinished was an incredible freaken read that put me through a roller coaster of the angries and emotions. (Yes, I do mean a whole lot of different angers. You will understand when you read this book!) This book was long, so be prepared to try and finish it in a day but will probably take you 2. But that is ok because I recommend that you take your time reading it. It is very twisted and there is a lot of information that you should process and understand as you read. Some of it will hit you like a punch because of the 💩that comes together and you just might not notice it. This book does end on a delicious cliffy that made my eyes bug out like I was a looney. 🤭 No lie, I feel like I should reread this book just to make sure I didn’t miss something because this book is very thrilling and there are so many twist and turns that it will make you rethink some of the 💩 you read. It is so worth it though. War, Unfinished is extremely dark! 😈
I can’t wait for you to fall in this rabbit hole and hope you enjoy this book as much as I did! 🖤
Happy Reading!! 😈
