One night she can't forget. One night he can't remember.
I can’t believe I slept with Jordan Hammond. My crush since junior high. The only man I have ever loved. The guy I compare every other guy to—who also happens to be my sister’s ex-fiancé. Funny story. Jordan doesn’t remember that night we shared. But I do. Every last detail.
They say some people have it all. At first glance, Jordan Hammond would be considered one of those people. Handsome. Wealthy. Comes from a respected family. Good friends. Adoring younger sister. Carefree. Quick with a dimpled smile or a laugh. But first impressions can be deceiving, masking the pain and loneliness inside. Like heartbreak and a called-off wedding after catching his fiancée in bed with his best friend. The blackouts caused by too many bottles of tequila and vodka he would consume to drown his sorrows over his failed engagement. The empty family estate he still lives in by himself because he can’t find the strength to sell it after his mother and grandfather pass away. The helpless feeling that drowns him every day because he feels like he’s wasted his life and has nothing to show for it.
It takes the sudden reappearance of one woman, Douglass Donnelly, to light a consuming fire within him. To make him want to live again. Risk love again. But there’s a problem. Two, actually. The first is that the beautiful auburn-haired Douglass is his ex-fiancée’s younger sister. But the biggest problem of all—Douglass absolutely hates his guts for reasons he can’t figure out. However, those reasons will not stop him from crashing through the almost impenetrable wall barricading her heart to claim the woman he realizes he can’t live without. The sister he should have chosen the first time. Jordan won’t stop until Douglass is his: heart, body, and soul—no matter how much she pretends to despise him.
Douglass Donnelly has always felt like an outcast. Shy, awkward, picked on by her peers because of her weight. Continuously living in the shadow of her perfect, vivacious, gorgeous older sister, Amelia. Overlooked. Invisible. And absolutely head-over-heels in love with Jordan Hammond since she was fourteen years old. A man she continued to pine over even when he chose her sister and not her. Even when he was about to become her brother-in-law. Even after his engagement blew up because he caught her sister in bed with his best friend one week before the wedding.
And then that night happens. The night that changes everything. The night Jordan Hammond finally sees her and not the little sister of his cheating ex. For a few brief hours, Jordan gives Douglass everything she has ever wanted and dreamed about… right before he rips it all away and shreds her fragile heart to pieces.
It’s been five years since Douglass packed her bags and ran away from her hometown of Woodspire, Texas. Five years of painstakingly putting her broken pieces back together and remolding herself into a strong, resilient woman. One thousand, eight hundred, and twenty-five long days for her love of Jordan Hammond to turn into hatred. Years of hardening her heart, so no other man can break it ever again.
What’s that overused adage? Time heals all wounds. Douglass knows better than anyone that even time itself won’t cure a broken heart or lessen the humiliation of what happened that night with Jordan. Unfortunately for Douglass, Jordan is determined to prove her wrong. But can he make amends for a night he can’t remember; a night, it turns out, Douglass can’t forget?

I did enjoy this one and I'll most likely go back to read the previous books in the series as well. But I have to say I didn't like the conflict near the end all that much and it kind of ruined part of the story for me. Especially the Danni thing which felt like it came out of nowhere and then wasn't resolved very well in my opinion.
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Trope: second chance Angst: 😱😱😱😱😱 Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥 (2.5)
About That Night is a super sweet and angsty story that will definitely pull on the heartstrings! This was my first Jennilynn Wyer book, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was well written and the characters had a ton of depth to them. Definitely an emotional roller coaster ride. It probably had a bit more angst than I personally prefer, with lots of things coming from many directions, but I still enjoyed it overall.
A fabulous romance which is not so much second chance, as sorting out mistakes from the past. Douglass is blindsided when, on her return home to take care of her beloved aunt, Natalie, discovers that her bf's brother is none other than the man she hates, Jordan! This kicks off the book dramatically and the details take a while to be fully revealed, though the impact of the fateful night years before have resonated down the years for Douglass. Her vile sister, Amelia, has caused her so much grief and pain, not least of all with the crush of her young, tender, innocent heart, Jordan himself. Jordan is a sweetie. He has a huge fight on his hands to salvage any chance with Douglass and this makes for some great plot twists. I do think, however, that Amelia failed to get a thorough comeuppance for her complete horribleness! 💖💖💖💖
Ever since i stumbled across the announcement for this book while on social media i knew i wanted to read it! I've been looking forward to it ever since. I picked it up and got right into The Montgomerys world! I enjoyed this story!
Douglass and Jordan's journey captured my attention right from the very get go! These two were in each other's lives for quite some time as Jordan dated Douglass's sister. The thing is though, Douglas is head over heels for Jordan and then one night changes things. Five years later, Douglass and Jordan are brought back face to face. Can the past be forgotten? Can Jordan prove to Douglass that they can have something beautiful together? or is it all too much to come back from?
I really liked how quickly Douglass and Jordan got me into their story. I didn't know what all to expect in their story nor did i know how they'd tackle everything which got me into it even more. Theirs is far from an easy story. From the feels they brought to their chemistry, I loved that i went through such a range of emotions throughout with both Douglass and Jordan. I really related to Douglass.
It was fun getting into The Montgomerys world for the first time!
With About That Night, Ms.Wyer has created such a good read that had me feeling so dang much! I am so looking forward to checking out more of her books and more from this series!
Be sure to read the author's note as this story touches on certain subjects.
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Give Me Books Promotions / the author*
This story was heartwarming and made me sigh as much as it was heartbreaking and made me cry. Jordan and Douglass’s story is sad, raw, very real and full of love.
The strings that bind these two are in many ways and many directions. Through friends, family and, first secretly admiration and now adulted attraction. But that the most important feeling that is overflowing everything is hurt and with hurt comes distrust.
You’re my sweet beautiful forever.
About that night is the wish come true for Douglass after the break up between Jordan and her sister Amelia. But being young, the one, and stupid, the other, lead them to a mix of misunderstandings and more.
Jordan is determined to win Douglass over, who is back in town after five years of absence because of that night. But for a reason that he does not know she seems to hate him very much.
It’s time I tell him about that night.
Much to Douglass' unwillingness, Jordan puts himself in front of her and in her presence every chance he gets. And being in his nearness shows her slowly that, indeed, he has changed and doesn’t know why she hates him the way she does.
A lot of things have to happen before they get their opportunity to talk and after things change between them.
But a bad from their past comes and swirls everything in a mess.
”Thank you for loving me, Douglass Donnelly. Thank you for loving me back, Jordan Hammond.”
A slow burn but very intense and sensitive written story. We get a perfectly deep insight in the thoughts and feelings of Jordan and Douglass. We practically feel and experience everything they did and do now. I read it in one go and loved it wholeheartedly. Very loveable characters and side characters with flaws and the ability to forgive and move on.
Once again Ms. Wyer delivers a story that is emotionally gripping and addictive. Her writing style and storylines seem to have you so enthralled that you get lost in the story. Her characters are strong, relatable and ones that have you wanting to be friends with, you know that it is a book that is a must-read. How many of you have had that one night that meant the world to you but the other person shattered your heart? How do you recover? Well, you do exactly what Douglass did when Jordan shattered her world and her heart.
Jordan was Douglass's crush bet there were problems. One, he was her perfect sister's ex-fiance and he crushed her heart years ago. Now he is standing in front of her acting like nothing ever happened all those years ago. How do you deal with your best friend's brother is none other than Jordan, the person you want nothing to do with? The two of them have a push/pull relationship as Jordan is determined to win her back and she is determined to keep him at arms length. Knowing that he has to pull out all the stops to get Douglass to forgive him, he does just that. In fact, he is very swoon-worthy in his actions and words. Will it be enough? Can Douglass see that what happened all though years ago was something that was not what she thought?
About That Night is one book that I absolutely loved. Enemies to lovers, strong heroines, and swoon-worthy romances are at the top of my list. You can always count on Ms. Wyer to give us a story that will have you riding an emotional rollercoaster but so well worth the ride. I also loved the fact that characters from previous books make a cameo, Bennett, Mason and of course my favourite book-boyfriend, Fallon.
Congratulations on yet another book that will have the reading world falling in love with Jordan and Douglass.
Yet again, this author has taken a piece of my heart and left it within the pages of this emotionally consuming must-read. The storyline is just pure perfection, and I shouldn't have been surprised that I needed to reach for a tissue again and again as this couple's spellbinding story unfolded, it is, after all, a Jennilynn Wyer book. If you like romances that put you in page-turning heaven as you can't wait to see what is happening next, then About That Night is the story for you, this is a love story full of hurt and anguish, regrets and new beginnings with underpinning sizzling chemistry between Jordan, who may not start of as in the running for book boyfriend of 2023, but soon makes it to the top of the pile and Douglass the young woman that has had to overcome so much since a small child, this couples past and future, is so intricately woven together that you can only cheer on from the sidelines as you have front row seats as they head towards the HEA.
I can honestly say it is a pleasure to read a book by this author, she is only one of a handful of writers who can with precision, set scene after scene, the little details turn a good book into a great book, and Ms Wyer always delivers, from rose petals placed in bowel and the meaning behind it to the epic first date, all just round of this perfectly perfect romance and one that will hold a special place on my special bookshelf.
Girl meets older boy. Older boy dates girls older sister. Older boy gets engaged to girls older sister. Older sister cheats on older boy right before their wedding with his best friend. Older boy dives down a bottle or 100 to cope. Girl hangs out at the bar older boy is drinking at. Older boy spots girl and talks to her. Older boy is hammered and takes girls virginity in the closet and says horrible things to her and kicks her out of the closet naked and crying afterwards.
About That Night is all about what happened "that" night, how it shaped who Douglass was. How she fell so low and was scratching and clawing her way back to the land of the living after that night.
Douglass felt so real. Her emotions, her habits, her inner monologue, everything was so relatable. She's hurting, and has been for most of her life honestly with no one to support her. She has loved Jordan from afar for a long time and when she got what she thought was her chance, it blew up in her face.
Jordan has always seen Douglass, even when no one else did, but he never did anything about it. He doesn't remember "that" night. But when Douglass finally tells him about it, things start to come back to him. He has so much groveling to do and so much to make up for. It's beautiful to see someone admit to their mistakes and learn from them.
I seriously loved these two so much! Their story is raw and real. They are both flayed open and bleeding all over the pages (metaphorically, obvs) They both have so much they have and are struggling with and we're just along for the emotional journey.
About That Night is an emotional journey from beginning to end. Angsty, tear-jerking, laugh-out-loud at times, and rage inducing as well. The main characters are put through their paces to get their HEA for sure, but it's so worth it. You will need all the tissues, snacks, drinks, and a comfy place to read because this book is definitely one of those "devour it in one sitting" kind of books.
There are always characters in books that rankle me. Some just get under my skin. A few have made me seethe. There have been very few that have made me hate them like Amelia Donnelly. There's a special place in the nether for her, no joke.
Getting from kind of enemies (only on Dee's side) to lovers is a very rough road for Dee and Jordan. A lot of discussions to be had, apologies to be made, and trust to be built. It's a heart wrenching, wild ride. So make sure your 5-point safety harness is in place and hang on tight.
About That Night by Jennilynn Wyer got me hooked right from the first chapter and straight to the end in one day. Yes, that's right, I could not put it down and did a late nighter to finish it.
About That Night is sassy, fun, witty, angsty, romantic, and steamy. The characters are well written and their rapport is seamless and dynamic.
Jordan is the ultimate possessive alpha with the hidden talent for romance. He's manly, dreamy, funny and gets what he wants. He bulldozes right for you and your left goo goo eyed, smiling and asking for more. All he wants to do is protect and take care of you, at times to a fault.
Douglass is determined, broken, resistant, and self sufficient. But she hides her fears, her scars, her pain and her secrets too deep that holds her back.
The storyline is entertaining and fun with serious issues that will tug at your heart and soul. The story is an absolute delight and I'm looking forward for more. I really loved how the most memorable night for Douglass was one that Jordan couldn't remember. It made for an interesting story that held my attention through out the book.
Well done, Jennilynn Wyer! I love About That Night so much. It's a definite 5 star for me with a spice level of 3.75.
Every time I pick up one of Jennilynn Wyer’s amazing books I know without a doubt that it’s not only going to be a very long night of reading and very little sleep but also that I am in for a real treat . About That Night was the perfect blend of two of my very favorite tropes enemies to lovers and small town . The type of story that’s guaranteed to grab onto all your emotions so fast and pull at your heartstrings in ways you certainly will not expect . I was honestly not prepared for all the different emotions I was going to feel while reading both Douglas and Jordan’s emotional rollercoaster of a journey and it’s definitely not a easy one . It’s filled with intrigue, tragedy, second chances , revelations , heartbreaking and heartfelt moments, angst , drama , obstacles, twists and turns, family , friendships , secrets , , love , loss , humor , witty banter , characters that are so likable and relatable as all as unique and multi layered you simply cannot stop yourself from becoming more and more invested . There were moments I was speechless, others I was on the edge of my seat heart beating so fast and then bam I found myself crying like a baby . So prepare yourself for all the feels and definitely keep the Kleenex close .
Jennilynn Wyer continues to push the boundaries of emotional roller coasters. About That Night is a book that I’ve been patiently waiting for. Enemies to lovers are one of my favorite tropes, and this book became one of my favorite all-time reads.
“One night he doesn’t remember. One night she will never forget.”
I fell in love with the complicated relationship between Douglass and Jordan. Raw. Brutally honest. Emotionally gripping from the start. One dinner with Harper, Jordan’s sister, and Douglass’s friend reopens wounds for both of the main characters. Jordan’s desire to fix the wrong from his past has me rooting for him to succeed. Douglass proves continuously how strong she is. Overcoming major demons that hit so close to home for me. I admire the strength she shows throughout the book. Next to Aurora in ‘That Girl’, Douglass has me choosing her with every breath.
About That Night is a book I simply couldn’t put down. I received an advanced readers copy and I am leaving my honest review
This is the sixth book in this incredible series, and this is Jordan and Douglass’ story. Douglass has loved Jordan since she was a teenager, but he was engaged to her older sister. Douglass always felt that she was an outsider in her family and has low self esteem issues, thanks to her sisters bullying. When Jordan catches his fiancé cheating the week before the wedding with his best friend, he relies on alcohol to see his through the day. One night together with Douglass cannot forget, and Jordan cannot remember. Five years later Douglass is back in town, but can Jordan redeem himself? This is a well written story which is an emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, drama, anguish, bullying, guilt, regrets, insecurities, second chances, explosive chemistry, and love, which leads to an addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
After five years, Douglass returns to her hometown. Five years after the best and the worst night of her life. And when she runs into the reason from that night, she is furious at him. Jordan hurt her in the worst way possible and she can’t forgive him. It’s just, he doesn’t remember anything from that night. Now, Jordan will try to prove to Douglass that he isn’t the same person anymore. He doesn’t use it as an excuse for what happened, but she needs to know how he has changed. He will be there for her in any way possible, but she will fight him on many things. But like they say, there is a thin line between love and hate…
I fell for these characters from the beginning. It was immediately clear to me what had happened five years ago, knowing what Jordan went through in a short period of time. They have both so many things from the past to overcome, but together they stand stronger. Even if there are things trying to break them apart.
Douglass has been in love with Jordan since she was 14 years old, the only problem is that he is her sister's ex, and they slept together one night and he doesn't remember it at all.
Douglass is now back in town after being gone for years, Jordan does not understand why she is so mad at him, but when he finds out he will do whatever it takes to get her forgiveness.
This story was beautiful. Douglass had it rough growing up, no one noticed her because of her sister and she had very low self esteem, her leaving home was the best thing to happen to her. Now that her sister is out of the picture and Jordan has gone up a ton, he is finally realizing what is right in front of him. I love how the road to love was not easy for these two, but Jordan burst through those walls to get to Douglass, he did whatever he had to in order to be with her. I love how he always stood by her side no matter what.
I was blown away with this story, it tugged at my heart in many different ways. "About that Night" is the journey of Jordan Hammond a half sibling of Fallon Montgomery and Douglass Donnelly.(FMC) Douglass has loved Jordan since she was 14 years old. However Douglass felt invisible her whole life staying small due to the bullying treatment at the hands of her own sister. After "That Night" she had to work through a lifetime of pain that has shaped the person that she has become to be able to love herself as well as others and to have the love she has always dreamed of. The adage of It's a small world and that everyone knows everyone else by 6 degrees of separation. Harper is Dee's (Douglass)best friend and Jordans half sister.
Ms. Wyer discovered Douglass' name from Jude Devereaux A Knight in Shinning Armor I am excited about this as Jude Devereux is a favorite author of mine from back in my younger years!! Its fabulous to have the setting of this story near my home town of Houston Tx.
Get out those kleenexs, favorite drink and snacks to hunker down and read this story all at once because you wont be able to put this down till you have reached the last page!!!
✨ARC Review ✨ *** Thank you ti Jennilynn Wyer and Give Me Books Promotions for the ARC to review. *** I absolutely loved Jordan!!!! About that Night was so good. This book left me with a smile on my face. I loved all that characters and the writing. Douglass was amazing. Her strength and bravery we're inspiring. I really connect with her and was about to understand some of her pain. Jordan was everything. He messed up big time a couple of times throughout the book, but he did everything in his power to make it up. His actions and stubborn were so sexy. I honestly had so many great emotions with this book. I was constantly swooning and smiling. I loved the found family and the support of all of the characters. *** ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ***
Jordan Hammond sees Douglass Donnelly for the first time in years and she looks at him with hate and derision, he has no idea why. Douglass hates Jordan for what happened in their past well all the while still loving him. Douglass being the sister of Amelia, the woman who destroyed Jordan, should be enough reason for him to stay away but he is everywhere. I loved this story so much, and these amazingly complex characters. I loved learning about another missing Montgomery sibling. I am loving this series so much. I can't wait for Sebastian’s story next. I am so in love with this author, she is simply amazing.
ARC Review of About That Night by Jennilynn Wyer * * * * * A drama filled romance one taking chances, forgiveness and totally putting the evil witch in her place.
Jordan had been an idiot. Five years ago, he found his high school girlfriend turned fiancee and his best friend together in bed one week before their wedding, losing his pride and love and long time friend all at once. He also missed Amelia's little sister Douglass who was nice and beautiful and on his side. Years later, it took a chance of fate and his half sister to reunite with Douglass...only it isn't a happy reunion. Douglass. HATES. Jordan. He has no idea why, but he's about to find out the consequences of his actions. Five years ago Douglass had her heart ripped out. Her sister had terrorised her all her life, broken bones and heavy brusing, but seeing Jordan made it all better. He was the man of her dreams, and she wished he could see her past her wicked older sister. One night changed everything. Horrid words were said and blood was spilled...and Jordan doesn't remember a thing. Jordan isn't going to let it go or Douglass, even as the past comes back with a vengeance and bittersweet new memories. A crazy sister, an ex-best friend, secrets and fun in the broom closet.
A wild ride and some heavy forgiveness to be worked around with the characters in this book. Wow, Amelia is a total psycho, needs medication and a few slaps...and a proper shirt.
Man this story of Douglas and Jordan had my heart in knots. My heart broke for Douglas and all she went through. I could feel the heartache with each page. At first I didn't care for Jordan but after each page I couldn't get enough of him. Their story is emotional and had me in tears at times. After each revelation you can feel the love between Jordan and Douglas. Even though Douglas resisted Jordan you knew they were meant to be. I love that we got more of Harper and Bennett. I really hope we get more Mason soon. Loved these two!!
Douglas has not had it easy. She loses her parents, her sister is a piece of work and then there is Jordan. When Douglas has to move back home, she tries so hard to avoid her past, but we all know how that works out. Jordan had a rough spot, but doesn't seem to understand why Douglas when not have anything to do with him. This was such a great story and it's always fun to see the Montgomery's. There were times when I wanted to smack Jordan over his alpha behavior, but I admit to having a love/hate relationship with alpha men. Loved the story!
Douglass and Jordan's story is full of past mistakes, misconceptions and guilt. This is a story laced with pain and regret. This is also a story of redemption, self worth, finally finding your place in life with the ones who love you. Both Jordan and Douglass are leary of opening up to one another but they recognize that is a necessary evil. I enjoyed Jordan's determination to win Douglass's heart. This was a great story.

Jordan was in a bad place a few years ago. After his breakup with his fiancée and the loss of family he sunk in a bad place. In doing so he made bad choices one being hurting Douglass aka Dee, his sister’s friend and his ex’s sister and he did not remember any of it. Now he is face to face with her and she is not happy. The story was riveting and I really enjoyed it. I recommend reading it. I received this copy and my spoiler free review is voluntary
If you want to swoon then About That Night is the book to read. It’s a second chance /enemies to lovers trope. You’ll totally fall in love with Jordan Hammond. One of the many Montgomery men that you’ll totally want them in real life.
Everyone deserves a second chance, both Douglass and Jordan needed to rekindle what was once lost. The chemistry between both Douglass and Jordan sparks from the very beginning and then blossoms into a beautiful story till the end. With just the right amount of spice, Jordan’s relentlessness to get Douglass, and struggles they both have to face, you won’t want to put the book down.
This was a sweet and really good book ! it said slow burn but I did not find it was. The storyline is not too short or too long. I really love Dee and Jordan together. I love how we saw them evolve and grow up. I was able to relate to Dee because of her insecurities ! Its my fourth Jennilynn book and I love her.
Wow, this story was so good. I love how the main male character proved himself. I also like that even though they had a past, it wasn't a constant. I can't be with you because of this. Both thr main leads grew as the story went along. This was a hard book to put down once I started!!
This was a fun read - it had angst, suspense, and an interesting storyline. I love the small-town feel of this one, and I really loved all of the characters. Seeing what prior characters are up to was nice, too! This is an easy read that will keep you entertained!
