Drop everything and pre-order this cookbook now. It's like nothing you have ever read or cooked with before! I was lucky enough to get an ARC from the publisher and have already torn my way through it.
If you are already a fan of the incomparable Jen Hatmaker, you will not be disappointed. If you aren't familiar with Jen, you'll soon think she's your new BFF. I say to my girlfriends all the time, if she only knew me we would be besties forever. Reading this cookbook is like having her in your kitchen--guiding, encouraging, laughing (with and probably at you and your goofy kitchen mishaps), telling you that "it's just food" and you can do whatever your adult self pleases to make it just how you like it. If she was here, I'd pour her a big glass of wine and let her sous chef the whole cookbook. (Yes, Jen, this is an open invitation to come to hang out at my house!)
The cookbook is punchy, a little irreverent, and down to earth. It's easy and fun to read-like no cookbook I've ever owned. Jen groups the steps of the recipes by which ingredients you use when and I have NO idea why every recipe isn't written this way. The photography is gorgeous without being pretentious.
I've already made shopping lists and am ready to dig into the actual cooking. I have book club next week-the only remaining question, is what to make first!
Made my day to receive my ARC of Feed These People! I devoured it! (Who does that for a cookbook?…but it was that good!) This book is so much more than a cookbook! It’s everything and the kitchen sink! The photography is vivid and just amazing…makes me want to try every recipe! The recipes are unique, and they all look and sound scrumptious! It’s as if you are actually cooking with Jen in your kitchen as she talks to you in her hilarious way and walks you through everything from shopping, prep, cooking, and savoring the time you have together while feeding your people! Can’t wait for this cookbook to become all dripped and splattered upon as I cook with Jen in my kitchen and gather with friends and family around the table over mouth watering delicious homemade dishes! Feed These People is a must for your fall and football gatherings, holiday parties, and just dinner with your family.
Who reads a cookbook from start to finish in one sitting? Apparently I do when it’s Jen Hatmaker’s cookbook, which I’ve been waiting for since I first started reading her “recipes” in books, blogs, and posts. So as soon as I received my Advance Readers Copy, I scrolled through the entire cookbook and read every word. If you’re looking for a regular, staid cookbook with just the basics, this is definitely not for you. If, on the other hand, you want to feel like you can make any recipe in the book because Jen’s going to talk you through it with clear-ish directions, tons of sass, lots of encouragement, and a really strong Texas bias, this is a cookbook for you. I’ve made a version of some of these recipes in the past (see previous comment about my introduction to Jen’s recipes), and they’re as good as she promises. I can’t wait to start trying these recipes out on some guinea pigs—oops! my family—and getting some of this goodness into our mouths. Get this cookbook; you won’t be sorry.
Who knew a cookbook could make you laugh out loud and drool because of delicious food at the same time?!?!? LOVE these easy to follow and not overwhelming recipes! I’m not a fancy chef- just a mom who needs to feed the fam after work and these recipes are perfect! Jen is a real life cook without all the crazy tools and industrial kitchen. Highly recommend this cookbook!!!
I was provided an advanced reader copy from the publisher (AND I ordered the cookbook for reals too!)
#1 - One of the first pictures in this cookbook is a picture of a bottle of Valentina. Sold. #2 - Jen says “ I’m just a home cook, and to secure that title, the best place to start is by being an eater.”. I. AM. AN. EATER. I do enjoy cooking. But I REALLY enjoy eating. But more importantly #3 - anyone can cook from this book. The pictures are gorgeous and the food sounds so yummy. But Jen walks you through each step. Even before you hit the recipes she walks you through equipment, tools and terms. In each recipe she talks to you in plain talk. Her directions are simple and easy to follow. And her recipes are delicious.
You can make this food. Your people will be impressed. Go buy Feed These People.
I have been given and Advanced Reader Copy of this cookbook by the publisher and have therefore been able to read it before it’s release date.
We’ve been begging Jen to make a cookbook for a years and it’s finally here! I was an early recipe tester last year and couldn’t wait to get the rest of the recipes and make them. In addition to the recipes being delicious, I love Jen’s commentary and stories throughout the book. Buy this cookbook for yourself and order extra copies for family and friends - it’s the perfect gift for the holidays! We’re planning to prep her French toast bake for Christmas Eve and serve it Christmas Day to family staying with us!
Thanks to the publisher for sending me an Advanced Reader Copy of Feed These People!
Holy cats! Just got my AR copy from the publisher and I'm SO glad I ordered multiple copies of this cookbook! I want to quit my job for a week and just cook every single recipe...they all look amazing!
Features that I'm over the moon about: 1. There is a picture of every single meal. 2. It's FILLED with the snark and humor that you expect from Jen Hatmaker 3. The recipes don't call for crazy ingredients that no one has heard of. In fact, several say "use whatever you have in the fridge." 4. Everything looks delicious and there's something for everyone!
Highly recommend this book for all the Christmas, birthday, or Columbus day presents you need to buy for people you love! It's SO GOOD!!!
Jen Hatmaker's writing draws you in from the first sentence because it is like you are sitting in your best friends house having a conversation. The chapter titles are imaginative and fun and right from the Introduction I was ready to get into the cookbook and start cooking!
There are so many recipes that sound delicious and I, a girl who doesn't always love spicy food, am looking forward to making the Jalapeño Polenta and Chorizo Bowls!
Whether you are looking for a cookbook to give your weekly meal rotation new life, brunch recipes or plates to take to a friends house this is the cookbook for you. Everyone can find a recipe they will make over and over again in this cookbook.
I was provided with an Advanced Reader Copy by the publisher.
*The publisher provided me with an advanced reader copy*. Wow! I can’t believe how stunning the photography is in this book, and how funny the stories are that go along with the recipes, although it shouldn’t surprise me when it is a cookbook written by Jen Hatmaker. The cookbook feels like a conversation with your best girlfriend as she shares her favorite cooking secrets… and the recipes…so good. Every one I have tried so far has been a hit! I can’t wait to try them all! You must get this book!
Do you like to have fun while you cook? I know I do! I have never smiled so much while reading a cookbook. I am going to have so much fun making these recipes and I can’t wait to invite my friends over to share this food together. Here are a couple of recipes from the book that I am going to make first. Dip Dinner Hummus, Fried Avocado Tacos with Poblano Ranch and Potato Chip, Bacon and Raspberry Grilled Cheese. I want to thank the publisher for an Advanced Readers copy.
It’s amazing!!! My family has literally loved everything so far!!! The pork sliders, the French dip subs, the house sauce, the Italian subs, the chicken pot pie….. errything!!! ❤️❤️❤️ I have NEVER had a cookbook that I actually read cover to cover before!! I’ve laughed so hard while reading it and it totally disarmed my “um I don’t think I can cook” persona and I became a “Welp let’s just give it a go” kinda Mom! I’m literally addicted to planning my meals now!! The leftovers are unbelievable and I feel like cooking actually IS a way I can love my family better. Thanks Jen for giving me the directions and inspiration to try!!! I am so excited to try everything!!
This cookbook meets every single person right where they are in life. Like all of Jen's books she is funny, puts love in everything and you'll feel like she is a friend talking you through the steps from the other room. The recipes range from meals for picky eaters to "when you want to seem fancy" and she gives you the confidence and freedom to make it your own. Publisher provided an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC).
This cookbook is everything you know and love from Jen Hatmaker - plus food! I have never read the entire introduction section to a cookbook until today, but it was so worth it. Equal parts funny and endearing, Jen had me laughing and crying in just a few short pages with her heartfelt, honest storytelling. About cooking! Even if you never cooked a thing, this book deserves a place on your shelf just for Jen’s stories, commentary, and deviation from the expected. But if you do cook from it, you will not be disappointed. I have only had my Advanced Reader Copy for one day and I have already made multiple dishes. Everything was beyond my expectations. Following Jen’s recipes is like learning a new dish with a friend by your side. She reminds us that it’s just food, and if we have to Feed These People, it may as well be fun.
I was given an Advanced Reader copy by the publisher
I just received my ARC today and made my first recipe tonight. The Stuffed Shells we’re amazing and a big hit with both my husband and three teenagers. I can’t wait to try more recipes this weekend, I already have several marked to try first.
Update: I have made 6 of the recipes in this cookbook and everyone of them has been a hit with my family. The beef tenderloin and the French Toast Bake were especially big hits at my house with all three teens. Really, I don’t think you can go wrong with any of these recipes. Get the book!!! You won’t be sorry.
Two of my favorite things- cookbooks and Jen Hatmaker’s writing, which is a whole lot like her speaking! Feed These People is a cookbook that reads like novel; or more like your grandma, mom, and best friends opened a bottle of wine (or 3) and started cooking while making sarcastic and snarky comments. I was thrilled to get an ARC from the publisher. I’m making the House Sauce right now and my house smells like Nona is is in the kitchen. The recipes offer so much room for personal preference and creativity. They aren’t fussy or complicated. Do yourself (and the people who eat the food you cook) a favor and pre-order this book!
A while back I was selected to be a recipe tester for this cookbook. The recipe was absolutely delicious and has been in menu rotation ever since. When I was selected to be part of the book launch team I was so excited. This cookbook is hilarious. As a mom of three myself, Jens humour in regards to "feeding these people" is on point. The recipes are easy to follow and allow for personal preference and exploration. When this book launches into the world be sure to grab it for everyone in your life, wether experience cooks or new to the kitchen.
Love, love, love!!! All my super thanks to the publisher for the ARC, I'm over the moon for this one! I read cookbooks like books anyway cause I'm a weirdo like that, but couple Jen's delightful writing with her amazing recipes and this one is hands-down a winner! I've tried many of her recipes in the past so could not wait for this book; I've already tried two of these new recipes and am 100% not disappointed. Can't wait to try alllll of the recipes in this book! (But for real, all of them, lol).
Ever since getting my hands on Jen Hatmaker's Beef Bourguignon recipe in her book For the Love, I have dearly wished she'd write a cookbook. That is the best dang beef stew recipe you will ever put in your face hole, and I knew if she could make one dish that marvelous, she had to be able to cook more.
The angels have sung and my wish has come true. And I have Jen Hatmaker's cookbook in my hot little hands, and IT IS GLORIOUS. The pictures are stunning, the stories are wonderful, and the author's sense of humor and personality shines from the pages.
I've made a few of the recipes (and more will follow!). When I'm cooking, I feel like Jen and I are old friends, and she's hanging out at my house, and we will make all the food and eat until we are stupid and have a marvelous time.
The Gingerbread Spice Dutch Baby is an amazing breakfast that smells like Christmas. I'd never made a Dutch baby before, but I see many of them in my family's future. The Pecan Crusted Chicken Tenders were wildly popular with my boys, who are notoriously picky eaters. Our favorite so far, though, is the Potato Chip, Bacon, and Raspberry Grilled Cheese. My husband tried it and said he could eat NINE of them and we should never do a grilled cheese sandwich any other way ever again. It sounds weird, I know. But trust me. You NEED this sandwich in your life.
My one teeny little disappointment is that Jen does not have a sweet tooth like I do, and there's only one dessert recipe in the whole book. But she's got recipes for hummus and fried mozzarella sticks and migas and queso, so that redeems the lack of dessert recipes. For good queso, I can skip dessert.
Five stars for food that sounds so yummy I want to lick the pages, and for a cookbook that's well organized and does a great job of breaking recipes and techniques down so that even kitchen newbies can make the tasty, tasty food.
I read cookbooks like I read books. I love reading cookbooks that are a visual treat that make me want to make all the things and this one doesn't disappoint! It's gorgeous. The pictures are as much a part of the book as the recipes themselves. I'll probably buy a copy to cook from because the recipes are 🔥🔥🔥 and one for a coffee table book because it's so pretty to look at! Fans have been asking Jen for this book for a long time and it is everything we ever hoped it would be! Happy cooking!
I am so so excited about this book! I’ve always loved Jen’s books and the random recipes interspersed in them. I have always wanted her to write a cookbook and here it is.
I was fortunate enough to get an ARC of the book from the author and the recipes are fantastic and her charm definitely comes through just as well in cookbook form as I does all her other books!
I’ll definitely be updating as I get into more of the actual cooking but I know the recipes will be incredible!
I received an advanced reader copy of Jen Hatmaker’s new cookbook and it’s amazing!! So many on my gift list will be receiving copies of this book. The book just makes me smile and giggle- from the chapter titles to being able to “hear” Jen’s voice on all the pages. Looking forward to sharing these recipes with friends and family. I’m sure these will fast become favorites and on repeat rotation at our house.
What can I say except it feels like I sat down with an old friend who always makes me giggle all the while keeping it real? I adore Jen Hatmaker and her first cookbook is just as delightful as I imagine she is. I’m already planning my grocery list for a delicious brunch this weekend of a Dutch Baby and Polenta and Chorizo. I was provided an advanced reader copy by the publisher.
(Publisher provided with Advanced Reader Copy) The most beautiful cookbook I’ve ever seen! The stories and family photos and beautiful recipes are amazing!!
I just started reading this, and Jen already has me laughing just with the introduction. If you are a Jen Hatmaker fan, you will enjoy reading this even if you don't make any of the recipes. The trademark Jen humor comes through immediately. If you've ever made something based on one of her instagram/facebook recipes, this is absolutely for you. It's more swear-y than a standard Jen book, so if that is something that bothers you, I guess skip it; but know you're missing out for a silly reason.
Updates to come, once I finish reading and make a few recipes.
Thanks to the publisher for providing me with an advanced copy.
UPDATE: Still can confirm this is for any Jen fan. The stories she tells with the recipes are by turns hilarious and relatable. The recipes I've cooked have all been good. Even my hard-to-please children have eaten and enjoyed the food. If you are looking for challenging recipes, this is not your book. But if you want some solid, straight-forward meals to shake up your current routine, this book if full of them.
Oh my goodness! I was lucky enough to receive an Advanced Reader Copy from the publisher. I have been begging for Jen to write a cookbook and so stinking excited for it to come! I quickly glanced through it and am so excited to dive into it more...and try the recipes! It is laced with her perfect and enduring humor, gorgeous photos, and yummy recipes.
Update: This book is a tribute to the people we love and great food! There is a stunning photo for every single recipe! Plus, there is a story to go with every single recipe. The entire cookbook, from cover to cover, is a dedication to love with perfectly delectable stories of the people Jen loves. Her writing style emanates throughout the entire book. You will laugh, maybe cry, and definitely cry from laughing! Oh and let's not forget the actual recipes which are golden! I made the roasted chicken with pan dripping gravy and the chicken pot pie. Both were amazing and have become regular dinners in our home! This cookbook is also a dedication to all the hard-working home cookers and the people we feed because we love them. Get this book!
This cookbook is phenomenal! The photos are beautiful! The author’s humor has me giggling with every page. I can’t wait to start cooking! * The publisher has provided me with an Advanced Reader Copy *
Opening this book felt like stepping into a friend's house to learn her favorite dishes. Gorgeous pictures of delicious food that is presented in a way that makes it doable not daunting. Jen seasons her recipes with stories that make you feel like she's perched on your kitchen counter as your cooking. Have you ever been making a new recipe and had a moment of doubt over process or ability? Jen answers within the recipe itself with assurance and encouragement as you create and it's the best thing ever! Feeding people is my jam and this book and I are going to be bffs, I can already tell!
This review is provided after reading my advanced reader copy
I was so excited to receive my ARC of Feed These People by the incomparable Jen Hatmaker, that I devoured it in less than a day! If you know Jen (and if you don’t, you’re missing out), you will adore her signature sass and wisdom in each and every recipe. Easy to read, the recipes are grouped in categories ranging from breakfast to fancy and are easy to follow. You’ll feel like Jen is perched on your counter with a big glass of wine and a grin on her face! I’ve already made three recipes and my family is ready for more! Do not miss this gem!
Jen Hatmaker is a funny, kind, and easy to get to know person. These characteristics and more are found in her newest creation, Feed these People. The chapter titles (Food that goes in Carbs, Food when you have no more damns to give) had me chuckling. The recipes have easy to read directions, fantastic photos and (my favorite part!) the personal stories behind the recipes. I’m so glad that the Publisher provided me with an Advance Reader Copy (ARC). The gorgeous cookbook comes out October 18. Now excuse me while I go read and cook!!
Very excited to recieve an ARC from the publisher and wow! I've never seen a cookbook like this. It reads more like a story with yummy food and guidance on how to create it weaved throughout. Plus it is funny! I've followed Jen for many years and have loved when she included a recipe or two in her previous books. Now we get a whole book of them! Can't wait to get cooking some of these beautiful dishes--the pictures of everything will have you feeling the same!
