It’s taken Viking hunter Sven Knutson six frustrating months to find her. To track down the angel responsible for compromising the Forgotten Brotherhood and waking the drakon. She may be clever. Resourceful. But no one ever gets away from Sven. Ever.
All Rivka longed for as an angel was a chance to serve on Earth and help humans. Instead, it all went impossibly, horribly wrong, and she still doesn’t understand how or even why. All she knows is that she’s on the run—not only from Heaven’s dangerous elite guard, but also from the Brotherhood, who want answers.
She might just have to trust the immortal Viking whose icy blue eyes make her feel almost wickedly human. Because someone wants Rivka dead and the Brotherhood eliminated. Someone powerful enough to take on the most dangerous assassins who have ever lived. Someone who could unleash the fury of both Heaven and Hell…and Rivka is the key.
Each book in the Forgotten Brotherhood series is STANDALONE: * Fury Unleashed * Arctic Bite * Burning Ash * Bjorn Cursed * Ancient Desire * Hunter Avenged
Once upon a time N.J. had the idea that she would like to quit her job at the bookstore, sell everything she owned, leave her hometown, and write romance novels in a place where no one knew her. And she did. Two years later, she went back to the bookstore and her hometown and settled in for another seven years.
One day she gave notice at her job on a Friday morning. On Sunday afternoon, she received a tentative acceptance for her first erotic romance novel and life would never be the same.
N.J. Walters is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who has always been a voracious reader, and now she spends her days writing novels of her own. Vampires, werewolves, dragons, time-travelers, seductive handymen, and next-door neighbors with smoldering good looks—all vie for her attention. It’s a tough life, but someone’s got to live it.
Hunter Avenged is book six in the Forgotten Brotherhood series by N.J. Walters. I have loved this series from the start. And the covers! Every book in the series has a stunning cover! I’m not positive but I believe this is the final book in the series. It had a final feeling. While each book in the series can technically be read as a stand alone, this one does have some ties to the previous book, Ancient Desire.
Sven Knutson, son of Bjorn (book four, Bjorn Cursed) is an immortal assassin, part of the Forgotten Brotherhood, a group of men who are tasked to kill only those that truly deserve it. Someone is after The Brotherhood. For six months, Sven has been tracking Rivka, the angel that could possibly hold the key to the answers they need. She always manages to stay one step ahead of him but he will not give up.
“She could run, but she couldn’t hide forever. He never failed.”
Rivka was on earth helping others to achieve their dreams but instead, found herself in the middle of something she didn’t understand. She was being hunted, not only by an unknown powerful angel but also by the brotherhood. She was living as a human, trying to keep her powers hidden, moving from place to place when he finally found her, a viking that both frightened her and drew her to him. She didn’t know if she should run away or run to him.
“He was dangerous, but beneath the deadly façade beat the heart of a protector who would go to any length to keep those he cared for safe and protected.
Rivka and Sven are forced to work together to find an ancient book that will provide them the means to find who is behind everything that has been happening. The bond between them quickly strengthens, complicating things because Sven still isn’t sure of what role Rivka has played in everything.
This is a page turner from the start to the finish. N.J. keeps us on the edge of our seats, building everything up to the big final showdown. I loved watching these two fall. As an angel, Rivka had never experienced romantic love or desire before. And Sven had his heart locked down. He got so frustrated when time and time again, Rivka would put herself in danger to protect him when he wanted to protect her! This is a fantastic book, the whole series is. If you haven’t started it yet, I hope you’ll take a look and try them out. Perhaps you’ll fall in love, just as I did.
When I finished reading Bjorn Cursed and met Sven, I knew I needed him to have his own book. And I've been eager for it ever since. I can't begin to tell you how excited I was to finally get his story in my hands. I don't often fangirl the heck out of myself, but I'm fangirling people!
I already knew that Sven was saved and enslaved by the goddess Freya and was now free to live any life he chose. His parents were alive and he could have a relationship with them, but aside from joining The Brotherhood, he's kept his distance.
And maybe, with the weight of destiny on his shoulders, he'll finally give himself a chance to be truly happy and embrace all of his blessings.
I really enjoyed this story. As the conclusion to an incredible series, I was happy to see most of the past characters make an appearance and in such impactful ways. I loved what blossomed between Sven and Rivka. From the way he hunted her around the world to bring her to justice in the plot against The Brotherhood, to his realizing that all he wanted to do was protect her from any and everyone who might have reason to do her harm. Sven was such an amazing hero and Rivka came into her own in such a wonderful way!
She yearned for his touch, enjoyed his intellect, respected his skills, and admired his dedication to the Brotherhood.
This series made N.J. Walters a must-read and must-buy author for me. There are incredibly gifted heroes, exciting plots and connections, and so much freaking love!
Sven is after an angel who did something a fellow Forgotten Brotherhood member and his mate. Bad move on the part of this angel, you don't mess with the Forgotten Brotherhood. But dealing with heaven and hell makes things harder when you can't always trust the parties involved. And the angel in question, Rivka is not the menace to society that Sven has come to believe she is.
Rivka just wants to live long enough to find out who set her up and why. But to do that she'll have to trust the Forgotten Brotherhood and hope they believe her because some of the other angels want her dead, she just has to find out why and stop them.
Once Sven finds her, she's nothing like what he thought she would be like. Plus he feels a pull towards her and she feels the same pull towards him but they fight it for a long time even though Sven isn't going to let anyone hurt her in the mean time, not even his own boss.
Rivka needs to find a book that will help her with a spell that will make the angel who's after her tell the truth about what is really going on. Once she convinces The Forgotten brotherhood that she isn't the villain they think she is and wants to get to the truth, they decide to help her and Sven goes with her to search for the book she needs.
The fight scenes, action, danger and blooming romance between these two kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. I love when a book can keep me reading because I'm so invested in the story and the characters and the twists just keep coming. This story and this series is just so good, I cannot recommend it enough.
Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is an exciting and action-packed addition to the Forgotten Brotherhood series and follows Rivka, a hunted angel desperate to clear her name, and Sven, the hunter tasked with finding her.
We met Sven in the previous book, as he is the son of the protagonists. I was curious to learn more about him, his new role in the Brotherhood, and his relationship with his parents. He’s a warrior and so fierce, yet he has a tender side too. Rivka is also intriguing. She is an angel and an intellectual – kind of like a librarian angel, which is so cool and unique. Rivka has been wronged on so many levels, yet she never stops fighting to prove her innocence and worth. They are both well-developed, and I enjoyed learning more about this unique world through their eyes.
Rivka and Sven have an instant connection, and their chemistry is great from their first meeting. You wouldn’t expect an angel and a warrior to have much in common. They are so different in their beliefs and personalities, yet they fit together well and defy the odds. They have a fabulous enemies-to-lovers romance – sexy, steamy, and exciting. And the way Sven feels for Rivka is so swoon-worthy. He loves her intellect and courage, as well as her physical strength and fighting skills. He sees her for who she really is, which is so wonderful, especially considering how she’s been treated by others. And the sense of belonging that Rivka gives Sven is wonderful, too, and something he lost a long time ago.
The story has a lot of action and an epic showdown as Rivka and Sven try to evade their foes, find a way to clear Rivka’s name, face the antagonists that have plagued them and many of the characters in the series, and begin to grow feelings for each other. It’s an intense and dangerous ride filled with intrigue, cool magic, amazing battle scenes, a bunch of different supernatural characters, and more.
I also like that a handful of the characters from the previous books are in this book and have roles in what happens to Rivka. However, you don’t have to have read their stories to follow this one. Each book in the series is meant to be a standalone. I’m not sure if this is the conclusion to the series, but it did have a feeling of finality to it, and the ending wrapped up well. I would definitely recommend the book to paranormal romance readers and am thankful to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.
I haven't read this series, but felt this worked okay as a standalone.
I liked the mix of romance and action/adventure in this one. Sven and Rivka seems like opposites - but you know they say, opposites attract!
Angel Rivka wanted to help humans but thinks took a turn and went wrong. She is resourceful and smart. Sven has been hunting for her for six frustrating months since she compromised the Forgotten Brotherhood. Despite knowing she needs to avoid him, she's taken in by his icy blue eyes and sparks fly!
Teleporting adventures, fighting, and the chemistry in the romance drew me in. Also I love some morally grey characters so this fit the bill!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing, LLC for an ARC copy!
Rivka and Sven have this odd opposites attract vibe and I totally enjoyed it. I also really like the brotherhood of the brotherhood and their mates. It creates like a found family feeling which I also loved. Both Rivka and Sven are wonderful, so its easy to love them. Rivka has a sort of quiet, understated strength. She is the type to weld a sword in battle, but she is brilliant and fierce all the same. I really need to go back and read the rest of this series!

Will they find the right answer in time …
What a hell of a story! How to not love Rivka, she is empathy personified, a true Angel, compassionate, kind and caring. But what of Sven, a warrior, hunter and protector, all this in one hell of a yummy package.
I love how the brotherhood members are all so different, and how fitting are the women who make them take the plunge. For Rivka and Sven, it is more than lust at first sight, the pull they feel is beyond simple attraction and more than mere chemistry. Plus Rivka being who she is, seeks to understand why she is drawn to him when for millennia she never felt an once of what he has awaken in her. Sven, too while he denies it at first, is entranced by her, the chase has bewitched him as he loves nothing more than the hunt, but with Rivka, he sees beyond what the angelic world has been blind to see. A talented acknowledged being with a sweet side, a true Angel.
Ryvka is trying to right a wrong done in her name but difficult to investigate when everyone non human wants a piece of her if no more. Sven has been tasked to find her, and now he is no more a goddess minion, he enjoys his freedom to do as he likes. This is a rollercoaster kind of story that make you cling to the building, between fights, investigation, steamy moments, Sven and Ryvka’s time is running out and with it the possibility of something more than being the hunter and his prey. 5 stars

I have been granted an advance copy by the publisher, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
I really enjoyed this story and it was a fabulous addition to the series. Sven was introduced and brought into the brotherhood circle a couple books ago and his hunt for Rivka was initiated due to the last book's events -- but don't worry if you haven't read those stories as this one stands well on it's own. Sven is sexy and while he's more an actions first he's well aware that using one's brain is important for success and survival in "occupation"/world. While Rivka has mainly "book smarts" that she's gained over her long angelic life and prefers conflict avoidance, she's very smart and has good instincts to boot. She's being hunted by many and has found herself on her own in world she knows little (outside of books) about, but she continues to maintain her appreciation for finding joy in the life/world around her and her gentle caring nature all while managing to hide & outsmart the dangers hunting her. It's that combination of smarts and sweet that appeals to Sven while his protective streak and gentleness draws Rivka to him. Together they make a great team with plenty of wit, heat, humor and breaking down of long held emotional armor. their search for the truth and who is after Rivka (and the brotherhood) and why is interesting and helps keep things moving and providing action/adventure in the story. in all the plot & pacing of the story quickly drew me in and kept me reading to find the final resolution and for the Sven & Rivka's HEA.

This book was filled to the brim with action, adventure and romance. I loved how Sven and Rivka were opposites in almost every way but they fit together seamlessly. He was a protective Viking warrior with trust issues and she was an angel that didn’t like confrontation and used her smarts instead of fists. They shouldn’t have worked but they did. I felt the connection between them immediately and even though their relationship developed fast I believed it completely. Another thing I enjoyed was the pacing of the book. It was fast and the book flew by! That’s to be expected though given the circumstances that Rivka and Sven find themselves in and the time frame that the story takes place.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved Hunter Avenged and I can’t wait to go back to the beginning of this series and meet all the other members of the Forgotten Brotherhood!
*I received an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.*
This was a fantastic blend of action, intrigue, and romance! These two have so many reasons to be wary of each other, but they have this instant connection that keeps at them. Figuring out the good and the bad isn’t easy when you are always in the grey, but Sven accepts who he is and how he is. Rivka also thinks she knows and accepts who she is, but it is apparent to others she is so much more. Epic fights, teleporting all over the world, off the charts chemistry, these two face so many challenges, and they take them all on to be together <3
This was one wild adventure. So much action that the pages were flying. I look forward to every new book from this series. I don’t know if this is the last book but I really hope not.
Rivka has been in hiding from some very powerful beings. She’s searching for the truth.
“Your. Love. Is. The. Most. Precious. Gift.” “You can’t take it back.”
Sven Knutson is one of the beings hunting her. As soon as he sees her his protective instincts come out. As they search for the truth they grow closer.
His deep voice slid inside her like hot fudge over ice cream, melting all resistance.
An action packed, thrilling read, Hunter Avenged is the sixth book in the Forgotten Brotherhood. Such a great read, Sven & Rivka are uniquely different and together they are captivating. The story is dynamic and engaging and the support cast we know well, this is definitely a must read series. I love this author, her ability to take you within the pages of her stories and have you ride the journey with the characters is truly a gift.
Hot suspenseful romance that keeps you on the edge of your seat
I loved, loved Rivka and Sven’s fated mates romantic suspense story. I especially enjoy when strong Hs are paired with equally strong hs and Rivka and Sven are both supernatural powerhouses in their own right. This allows a rich multilayered story and characters especially when combined with witty dialogue and an engaging storyline. This story has all the swoony swoons while also pulling at your heartstrings with all the feels. Sven spent 1,500 years as Freya’s warrior. Now that he has been released from her service, he is a member of the Forgotten Brotherhood, a band of uber powerful paranormal assassins who kill the worst of other paranormal entities. Rivka is a “defective” angel who was unwitting pawn in a devious plot to hurt the Brotherhood. Sven’s first assignment is to track Rivka so the Brotherhood can question her. But when he finally “captures” her things become even more intense as they deal with their feelings while trying to solve the mystery and avoid being killed in the process. The story includes what you’d expect from this genre - sweet moments, steamy scenes, fighting, dangerous situations, paranormal creatures, evil masterminds, henchmen, loyal friends, tragic back stories, mystical coincidences, snark, plot twists, and laughs. I love this entire series. While this can be read as a standalone, there is an overarching plot in the series so it’s best read in order.
Wow! I dove into the 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙤𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙣 𝘽𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙙 series with book 6 and thoroughly enjoyed it! This series can be read as stand-alone books, but I cannot wait to read the first five books. I really enjoyed Sven and Rivka's story and blossoming relationship. Even though they started as enemies, their attraction sparked off the pages. If you enjoy an action-packed story that also has a good amount of romance, this book is for you. I highly recommend grabbing a copy of this new release!
I love the Hermione innocence and her empathy for others . it was a beautiful book. I think I might want more of Marcus in the story but I also understand,it was not his story . It was a beautiful story of an Angel and her growing to be herself and giving her a family.
DNF. I give up. I triiiied, I really did. I loved the beginning of this series, but I've been away from it for a long time and coming back to it I just couldn't get into this one... maybe I kind of lost the thread of this world and these characters???
I may try again some other time, but for now, I just couldn't get it up for this story.
Loved Sven. He is his father's son (Bjorn Cursed). This was the book I was hoping we were going to get. Rivka at times annoyed me but in the end I enjoyed the book. Sad to see this series end.
There are books that keep you on the edge with every page turn, and despite knowing it’s a guaranteed HEA there’s an underlying fear that things just seem hopeless, this is one of those books to the extreme. I loved it, despite the heartache throughout. It’s a great read and a very satisfying ending.
Sven who is a Viking Hunter has been trying to catch Rivka who is an Angel who was sent to earth to help people but now she is on the run. What is she going to do? I really like this book and it was a fantastic way to end this series.
I look forward to this author's books. I have read all her series of books and enjoyed them all. When I need a book that takes me away, and keeps me enthralled,I choose this author.
The mix of old religion (Norse) and Angel and bad Archangelmade me curious. I actually like it very much and since this is book 2 in the series, I have to get 1 and all the others. It was an enjoyable read, fast pace. Not I have to know what happen to all these bad angels.
Great book with a bookworm and a Viking...what could be better?
The spice was great. Their chemistry, top notch. Their spitfire little quarrels were adorable and swoonworthy. And the battles jumped off the page they were so well written.
While I loved Rivka and the idea of Heaven's librarian, I just couldn't connect with these two as a couple. But, I really enjoy this series and I'm looking forward to more. (✮✮✮½)
Sven and Rivka shouldn’t be compatible but their story, two totally opposite in personalities, religions/beliefs bind themselves together with Love. Another amazing Forgotten Brotherhood installment!
Honestly, this was definitely my least favorite of the series so far. The insta-love did not work for me here at all. And I grew bored of constantly reading about Sven thinking about how great and perfect Rivka was. Almost nothing happened until the end.
So we know that Sven was tasked with tracking down the angel that fled after Lucius was woken up. And he has been. Literally all over the globe. The more he chases her though, the more he is starting to respect her and be drawn to her. He fights it because he knows she definitely is suspicious and could very well be the enemy. But it's not easy. Especially when he finally tracks her down and can watch her up close.
Rivka has lived her entire life (which is basically eons) being mocked as a defective angel. But that doesn't stop her from trying her best to do what good she can. So when she is finally approved to start her own foundation on Earth, she thinks everything has finally paid off. Until it all goes to hell and she realizes she was set up as a scapegoat. She flees with the intent of finding out who was behind it all. Which is really hard when she constantly has to run.
Sven tracks Rivka down at her current job and watches her as he decides what to do. When they come in contact, Rivka can't help her reaction to him but she also knows she needs to get away. Now. She doesn't get far. Sven manages to slip a tracker on her that only he can remove, so when she flees he can find her. Good thing too because the angels beat him to her and there's a fight before he can snag her and take her to Maccus.
I always get so frustrated when every guy tries to start a fight with Maccus over their girl. Especially here though because Sven doesn't even know anything about Rivka and he's prepared to fight. Like anyone can win against Maccus.
From this point, so very little happens. It's mostly Sven and Rivka talking or eventually having sex. I was surprised just how little of this book had them actually trying to find the information they need to find the culprit. Finally they go to the one source left to them to find a book they need to summon the person behind the whole plot. And this is when the story also starts getting better. They do the summoning, which definitely does not go off without a hitch. I'd like to say I was surprised at who the bad guy was, but really, I wasn't. But damn what a reason to do all the bad things he has.
The ending wasn't bad, but I didn't really care all that much for it either. What happened with Rivka was neat, sure, but what was the point? And then Sven talking about her powers like she's some badass was just silly because her power is basically just absorbing knowledge.
With the bad guy behind everything exposed and dealt with, does that mean this series is done? I really hope not because while I didn't care much for this one, I really liked most of the others. And I definitely love Maccus. So I'm hoping more for sure.
Hunter Avenged is an exquisitely mesmerizing and passionately perfect journey of discovering a future that is both surprising and life-altering. The wicked twists and turns will have you glued to your seat and begging for more. Nothing is left to chance and nothing can be taken for granted. Even the smallest expression of emotion will come at you like the force of a hurricane. Don't hide in the shadows because you might just miss the miracle that your heart and soul have been dreaming about. This world is truly a place of dreams and legend and wishes come true in the most unexpected of ways.
Sven has one all important mission. He is tasked with hunting down the rouge angel who put his fellow Forgotten Brotherhood member and their mate in danger. This is what he is good at: hunt and detain. Nothing can stop him from proving himself to the Forgotten Brotherhood because he has nothing else then being a hunter. Rivka is desperate to stay alive long enough to find the person responsible for putting a hit on her. A low level worker like herself has no idea why someone wants her dead. The facts remain unless she stays vigilant, she will not live long enough to stop this madness. With Sven jointing the insane hunt for Rivka, can she even hope to live long enough to uncover the truth?
As different as night and day, we find the most unlikely of couples in Sven and Rivka. They are from two vastly different worlds and mindsets. However, when the heart gets involved, all best are off. Nothing can be predictable when love comes onto the scene and decides to slowly but surely take over. The white hot passion and deep and honest connection that ignites between them is truly something from legends. There is no thyme or reason why these two are perfect for the other, but the truth of it will shine bright on the darkest of nights. What a magnificent revelation and such a wonder to behold and experience!
NJ Walters has created one of my favorite stories in this series and set it ablaze within my very soul. Appreciation is a difficult gift to bestow at times because it has to be felt and experienced in the heart. I hope with all my heart that this fabulous author will be able to feel my deep and honest wonder and thankfulness for the power and beauty of her creative spirit. I never grow tired of the words that pour forth from her soul, and I cherish each and every one of them.
Having not read any of the previous Forgotten Brotherhood titles before starting Hunter Avenged, I honestly didn't know what to expect. Sven and Rivka's story might be a standalone, but I assumed I would be at least a little lost without reading any of the other five books in this series. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get into the story, even when characters who were obviously from previous books made appearances.
But Sven and the Forgotten Brotherhood were easy to pick up and follow along with. I loved how these immortal tough guys were juxtaposed against Rivka - who was literally an angel.
Thanks to their paranormal abilities, Rivka and Sven's story spanned the globe in search of the book that could save Rivka and prove her innocence in the whole drakon debacle. With some not-so-angelic angels on their trail, Sven and Rivka find themselves getting closer than they ever expected.
Overall, the story and writing style were super easy to pick up and get lost in. I devoured this one over two reading sessions - mostly because I needed to know what would happen between Rivka and Sven while they were trying to evade the angelic powers that be. I enjoyed watching their powers come alive on the page, especially as Rivka and Sven teamed up and used their abilities together, rather than just to survive and fight another day.
Having not read the previous books, I now really want to go back and read the first five stories to get the complete Forgotten Brotherhood backstory. But not having those backstories did not impede my ability to follow along and enjoy Sven and Rivka's story.
