Once again, I am in awe of Andy Weir's genius!!! While reading this book, my mind worked on hyperdrive! My imagination was boosted off the charts and it really felt like I was there with them doing science stuff! This definitely deserves to be turned into a movie! WHAT A RIDE TO SPACE!!! Beautiful execution and the way the timelines were arranged is just plain amazing.
Somehow while I was reading this, I had some of my own realizations. Being a teacher myself, I wanna be with my students all the time to guide them and to see their progress. However, there will come a time that I won't be there anymore, so I know in my heart that I have to help prepare them. I have to give them the tools so that they can survive and thrive in this harsh world. That, my friends is one of my realizations while reading this. Another realization is that I'm really clueless at math stuff. Haha!
Just read this. Please read it if you're into space stuff. Read this if you wanna read about friendship that transcends worlds. Read this if maybe, just like me, you'd like to meet aliens, be friends with them and go on an amazing space adventures (that is hopefully not detrimental to human survival hehe)!

It really is a dream, with all of it's design here and there. It is an entangled web of family drama, racial discrimination (against each other really, not just one), bonds of friendship, romantic relationship challenges, self preservation versus laying your life on the line for everyone and politics mixed in with everything. The story really is built on intrigue and knots and twists here and there get to be unveiled at each step.
I was so invested in each character! It's not everyday that I get to like almost all of the characters in the story. The main ones is a given, but liking the other characters is something special! I hated them, rooted for them, cried for their victories and loss. I wish some losses were not as bad, but I think some were necessary. My favorite character would really be Altair in this one. I love, just love his resilience and his bravado. I like how he takes things in a stride and gives the best lines ever! He made this book totally lively when it could have been so lonely. He embodies the light, I guess. Of course I do like Nasir and Zafira. I always wanted the best for them both. For a moment there, I honestly thought their ending will be a sad one, but nope! Our dear author permitted them to have a happy one and I'm grateful! I immensely enjoyed it!
I was also amazed on how the world was built in my head by the author. It has a movie-like quality that cannot be denied! I wish to see this as a series or a movie one day. It certainly has a oomph to it! ^_^
I highly recommend this duology!
I wish for another book for my dear Altair!!!...more

I was into this for the adventure, action and beautiful scenery (in my head, that is), but I must admit that I go way, waaaayyy more.
It started out somehow like The Hunger Games. Girl has a guy best friend (okay so she has a girl best friend too), she has a mom who's not all there mentally because of a trauma --death of a husband, she has a sister who needs her and her town relies on her to hunt for food since she's very, very good at it. Oh! Her guy best friend is in love with her. Lol. See? It's kind of like THG. I was honestly beginning to be turned off if not for the next things that happened to her.
She kind of meets people and goes on this grand quest to find a special item that will bring magic back to their land. She banks everything on it and thinks that it will solve everything. I was all for leaving her town honestly. When their quest started, the fun started too! I like how she's so raw when it comes to skills. So raw that she surprises even a reader like me! I like how she surpasses even her own thoughts and I like how she remains standing no matter what. I'm totally not confused about her feelings about the guy best friend. I think she has made herself clear in the story. I like how she doesn't want to open up to other people, but still unconsciously does it. After so many things that happened to her, I expect her to be stronger in the second book, both in mind and body.
The guy on the other hand is a handful in a sense that he says he's not allowed to "feel" anything, but deep down he feels too much. I swear! He's one of the most complex, emotional guy mc's out there! Ugh I don't want to give more, so I'll just say that I am expecting a lot more from him in the next book.
I'll be reading the next book soon and I sure hope that things end well because this first book was amazing. ❤️...more
I had many thoughts as to how this story will end, but none of them included what truly happened in the story. I love it! I LOVE IT!!5 GOLDEN STARS!!!
I had many thoughts as to how this story will end, but none of them included what truly happened in the story. I love it! I LOVE IT!!! I am kind of glad that I read it now when the series is out there, though I read book 1 before watching the series. I'm glad because I already have this idea in my head. I know some places, I know what the characters look like. It helped me feel like I was really in a movie. A GREAT MOVIE!!!
I couldn't have guessed in a million years that THAT will happen. Aghh! It's so hard to review this book and not give anything away! All I can say is, if you're reading this for the first time, what you guess in your head IS NOT IT. Everything is not how it seems and that makes it more amazing, doesn't it? Oh my!
Maybe all I'm allowed to say is how I felt? I FELT A LOT OF EMOTIONS! I was sad, happy, angry, disappointed, happy again, pissed off, scared, more scared and then I was crying and crying and happy again and oh my it went on and on like I was on a roller coaster ride!
I am totally, totally, satisfied. I appreciate this book and what it teaches people.
What did it teach me? Sometimes, simplicity is everything.
I am absolutely obsessed with fantastical creatures and sirens are top tier! I love how the story was told. I love how adventurous it wasI love this!
I am absolutely obsessed with fantastical creatures and sirens are top tier! I love how the story was told. I love how adventurous it was, but at the same time sad and dramatic. I felt really bad for some characters that were lost, but I also rejoice for those who remain. They all made these two books amazing. I kind of wish this one's longer though. I would have loved an epilogue too. :)
Strong story with a strong female lead and a a strong crew too! Nice! ...more

Do you know that feeling when you want to finish a series, but at the same time, you don't want to? That's how I felt while reading this. I did my best to read slowly, but I honestly finished it in 4 hours, then I read it again. Oh well, my book hangover is definitely real! I am lucky because I didn't have to wait too long for this. I can't imagine not knowing how it all ends for months and months!
There is never a dull moment in this book. I think the strength of this book (or the whole series) lies in the intrigue, both politically and romantically. I like how the author has made me feel invested not just in our main characters, but also with the other ones. I would love, love, JUST LOVE to have a story with Brine as the main character. I'm also pretty sure that king of dragons will have his. He's too amazing to pass up. *wink wink* I also revel in the fact that the characters developed drastically. I mean, if I fought a lion one day and kissed a fox the next, I would also be a friggin different person! Haha! But really, I appreciate it all. I like how mature they all seemed to be about things. Well, as mature as a jealous fox can be. Haha!
When it ended, I was there again with them all. I was celebrating and I was happy. I was also left intrigued again. I want to know what happens to the new characters that were introduced. I just wish I didn't have to wait too long. Oh well... All in good time. Then again, this book was already such a gift. I will probably re-read this whole series just to experience that rush again. ...more

It's always great when a book surprises you. However, nowadays, it's rare that a book does that to me. The author was able to capture my attention the moment I read the first page of the first book, but this second one is just more amazing! I didn't think that i would feel this alive again after reading a book. This... this is what I should feel after reading!
I am so happy that Temp isn't easily swayed...Sooo happy that she has lots and lots of strength as well as guts! I like that this book didn't focus on the love part entirely. Temp is a master fighter and she deserves to be honored like this. I am so happy with the development of the plot and I kinda wish that the other characters will get their own series or book.
Anyway, for now, I shall be waiting. Impatiently!...more

It's always magical when I get to read books with elves, fae etc. This one however, is particularly magical because the author is amazing. Truly amazing! She was able to write vivid descriptions of things in this world, places, people and even creatures. I always love a book wherein I feel like I'm really there with them all. This one is no exception. I imagined that I was the main character, a girl filled with responsibility in both worlds. The magic that Luella has is so frikkin awesome that it had me thinking of what I'd do if I were her! She also headstrong and her sense of responsibility is greater than anything. Such a wonderful character. Her only flaw in my opinion is her indecision regarding matters of the heart. Anyway, she did right eventually and that ending is really something! :)
Do I recommend this to others? I do!!! Very much so!!! ❤️❤️❤️
P. S. Hook, my darling wolf is also my favorite in this book. Such a charming and valuable part of the story! I'd give this a perfect score just for his presence. ❤️...more
