But for the most part this is a solid tarot deck and one I know I will use often. The book on the other hand - not so much. First of all, petty as it may seem, the paper it is printed on is horrible, the images in black and white is murky. The tarot history is just unneeded and just perpetuating myths. The card notes is ok, but nothing more. She does not write much about why she painted the cards the way she did, nothing but the basic Rider-Waite meanings really.

I am in love with Tarot de Marseille and this book made me love it even more. Does she tell you the meanings of the cards, hell no! Elias tells you to listen to what the cards say, look at what they do, how they connect, transform etc. But the most important lesson is to listen to the Question.
The readings featured here are almost all 3 card readings and they either made me think 'wow, I am so clever' or 'oh my, how come I never thought about that before'?

The art though... Some I love and some I hate. Some are just too out there for me, a bit too surreal. All in all I am not at all sorry I bought the set though....more

The cards are pretty straightforward RWS inspired and utterly sugary and cute. Not really my cup of tea, but I quite liked the book! Each card had a description, a card-meaing and a 'in a nut-shell' and plenty of room for notes. Not at all bad for a companion book. And in the end a a lexicon of flowers. ...more

Just a little short history of the woman behind the art on the most famous and spread tarot deck. Pamela Colman Smith aka Pixie had quite a hard life. Motherless, unmarried, struggling to support herself by her art. Must have been tough being a single woman and of mixed raced back in that time.
Looking at her art that is shown here I see a lot of similarities to the art of Swedish painter Carl Larsson.
This book came as part in the Pamela Colman Smith commemorative set....more

I love how Erik Dunne treats fabrics. The whole theme of the deck is opulence and lux with a eastern twist. My only objection is that sometimes too many textures are used and it gives a 'sharp' impression, not as smooth as I would have wanted. The book is good. Each major is printed in large size and with a kind of presentation in the 'voice' of the main character and it ends with a few keywords for the meaning of the card. The packaging is excellent! This is for once a box where the deck and book sits snug and it is sturdy and pretty.
So why only 3 stars? It just ain't my cup of tea I guess....more

Pretty dense reading, filled with astrology (that is above my head) and Qabala and Enochian and Goethia (also a bit too difficult to digest in one sitting) I own the deck that comes with it and while it is not my fave tarot it has it's moments.
