The story appeared to be complicated with many people and their criminal activities but author Cannell did an excellent job of keeping timelines organized and keeping me engaged. It was a well researched and detailed book. It sickened me the way these two former NYPD Detectives eluded justice for so long. If you enjoy true crime, this book is for you!

I have been putting off writing this review for a long time because I knew I would not be able to adequately express my thoughts about this amazing and powerful novel. It was a beautiful story about friendship, betrayal and ultimately hope. This was an in-depth coming of age and character study using historical details that explored two women and their experiences in the Iranian culture. I loved everything about this book, the characters, the setting, themes and writing style. If you enjoy stories of women, sacrifice, friendship and culture, this book is for you.

She wrote a roller coaster of a love story that shattered my heart to pieces and then gave me the ending I needed! I stayed up so late finishing the book and then couldn’t sleep thinking about what I just read. This novel gave me November 9 vibes, which I enjoyed. This is my second 5 star read by Paige. I also loved Only Love Can Hurt Like This. I highly recommend if you enjoy emotional love stories.

I read this book slow and savored every word. I was invested in this story from the beginning. Every time I put the book down I was thinking about the characters. Someone was always suffering, hoping, searching, judging and loving. I felt every emotion imaginable. This novel is why I read books… to meet new characters, to travel to places I have never visited, and to immerse myself in their story.

It is gorgeous and I kept looking back at it! I loved this beautiful debut historical fiction novel told through a dual timeline about war, love, family and their secrets. I enjoyed the intergenerational relationship between grandmother and granddaughter. The story was heartbreaking, however, full of determination and hope. The ending left me satisfied and the acknowledgment by the author was a special treat to read!
