There are funny and nostalgic moments, and heartbreaking ones, too. The novel's structure is mixed between a narrative and epistolary format, which might not work for everyone, but it worked for me. There are snippets from the journal the father kept when the daughter was small - funny or surprising things she said and did, little windows into the relationship between father and daughter - and over the course of the novel, becomes the same kind of journal snippets, but now the daughter is writing about funny or surprising things the father said and did.
Parts of it were hard for me to read because of what I've experienced in our family with Alzheimer's. I was never able to feel very poignant or "in the moment" with that, so it was difficult to relate. ...more
