It starts with Folke who is a shepherd who lives in a cottage in Wales in the 1940’s. His parents are dead and he lives alone with a handful of sheep. He’s depressed and possibly traumatized by the more recent death of his mother. And he is blind. The book is entirely from his POV. Which is really interesting because we don’t always know what is going on if he can’t see it.
One night there’s a big thunderstorm and he goes out to check on his sheep. But he gets lost and hears growling that sounds like a wolf. He finds one of the walls of his barn broken down and encounters two mysterious soldiers. Darach and Finley.
Darach and Finley avail themselves of his cottage and tell him they need to stay for a few days. Folke knows they’re lying about what happened but doesn’t know what else he can do but let them stay. He can’t refuse two British soldiers. We eventually learn in fits and starts that (view spoiler)[Darach is a dragon shifter and Finley is a sort of werewolf. And that they were sent by the British army to deal with some local monsters called barghest that cause earthquakes and sinkholes. And have already killed most of Folke’s sheep (hide spoiler)].
Both men are interested in Folke right away, because apparently he is very beautiful, which he had been unaware of. They both pursue him separately and Folke is interested in both of them to a degree, and accepts their advances. Although he seemed to prefer Darach at first. I preferred Darach at first as well, until we got to know Finley more. He’s more rough around the edges but in the end I found him more interesting. They both seem to have some caretaker traits, because they both enjoy taking care of Folke even though he seems rather pathetic. ...more

Although I didn’t realize going into it that it was another spinoff of the whole Reckless Damned universe. Since I DNFed Humility. No shade to Lark Taylor but that one just made me too uncomfortable and I couldn’t read it. But I assume Finn appeared in it since he talks about helping save Riley at some point. But this was the first time I met him.
So this series is about Danny’s wolf clan. Finn is the one who took over for Danny. And the next book is about another member, Evan. I can’t wait for Evan’s book! Poor guy is in so much pain. ...more

There wasn’t really a storyline aside from the fact that Theo was slowly turning into a demon and that Wren was trying to stop it. It’s mostly just the two of them in hotel rooms resisting this connection or Theo resisting his demonic urges. Surprisingly not a lot of talking. And hardly any other characters. I feel like their connection was not really shown very well. They clearly feel a lot for each other, but it’s not really explained why. Like, I don’t know what they love about each other. There has to be something besides the connection from the arrow, but I don’t know what it is. They are in love with each other just because!

If I remember correctly, book 1 is the only one where the MCs said the L word to each other. Alan thought it in book 3 but didn’t say it out loud. But you still felt it was true, for both of them. So book 1 was the most romantic. But book 3 had more intense spice with d/s undertones and some pretty intense scenes. Also this book had the climax of the whole series. I was so into the story in this one that I actually didn’t mind that it was slightly less romantic.
I really loved Alan and Edwin. I’m glad we got to see more of all the characters together. And this one had a bit more of a found-family vibe. I missed Edwin and Robin in book 2. I still don’t really like Violet.
But I highly recommend this series for fans of KJ Charles and specifically The Magpie Lord.

I don’t know why so many people are complaining about the story being under developed, since it is clearly a novella. It starts out with a quick mention of a spell gone wrong, and most of Europe and the eastern US is hit with some sort of love spell that makes everyone feel an urge to physically move towards their soulmate.
Combine that with Hazards books about terrible bosses which she has written a few of before. Justin is Peter’s assistant at a law firm. They have some great banter, as they seem to really annoy each other, but are also very attracted to each other. They have remained professional over the years, until now when they feel an irresistible urge to be together. Of course it’s somewhat ridiculous how long it takes them to figure it out, but Peter is a cynic, and the whole novella is from his POV. I would have loved to have seen more of them together (and more spice ...more

I was also disappointed that the entire book, aside from the epilogue, took place on the ship. And there was only one very small appearance by Robin and Edwin in the epilogue. And they didn’t even get to meet Violet.
I spent most of the time wanting to see more of Hawthorne. We met Hawthorne in book 1. He was Edwin’s ex. But he seemed like a jerk. We got to know him much more in this one and I am already so intrigued. Book 3 will be Hawthorne’s book and I can’t wait!...more
