Honestly I almost feel like I already wasted too much time on this. But I kept thinking "ah it's short and I'm sure it'll get more interesting soon". Over a third into it I can say.. no, it did not. It's just really booooring. The theatre aspect is falling flat because I feel like we see a lot of "I just had a really horrible rehearsal" or "The way she acted was so sincere" (these are made up quotes, whatever, you get it) but not the real PROCESS of acting and rehearsing which is what I wanted from it. And don't get me started on the romance. Over a third into it we're still at the exact same point we started at? Both like each other AND THEY KNOW IT and they're already involved but they don't wanna date because they don't wanna get hurt... guurl, your ass is already in too deep, you're gonna get hurt anyway. JUST MAKE OUT ALREADY.
Overall nothing about this book is exactly BAD (so far) but it was just really, REALLY boring.

Update February 2018: I mean my DNF review still stands except I now don't feel bad about disliking it anymore. Tristina Wright is a trash person.

DNF at 37%. It's not you, it's me.. I think? I just absolutely cannot get into this at all. I feel horrible because this is such a diverse read and I was really looking forward to it.. but I just don't think anybody is gonna benefit from me trying to force my way through this book right now. Maybe I'll give it another try when the sequel comes out? I just feel like over a third into this I still don't know enough about the characters. So much action has already happened and I feel like the characters kinda fall flat because of it.. like I even have a hard time trying to remember who is who. I think it's so hard to differentiate between the different POVs too. I was just not having an enjoyable reading experience at all :(
I received an ARC through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I just couldn't finish it. It was genuinely disturbing. I was excited to read about the friendship and I LOVED everything about that, truly thinking this was going to be a 5 star read but after like 30% or so it was just.. terrible scene after terrible scene. I have read books (especially non-fiction) with lots of terrible things happening to someone but this felt.. exploitative? I don't know what word to use but I just thought that the way that things were described (and were so over and over again) was too much....more

If there is any sort of retelling that I constantly reach for, however many times it has been done, it is a Peter Pan retelling. The Wendy seemed really unique, so I was excited to check it out. Sadly, nothing about the story really drew me in and I found the characters to be quite forgettable, even though I technically already know them.
I do still think this is a very unique story as far as Peter Pan retellings go but ultimately there just wasn't much about this story that interested me. And after putting it down for a couple of days, nothing was motivating me to pick it back up.

LISTEN, I always thought this book wouldn't really be for me and I was right. I still wanted to give it a chance cause of the #DivinersReadalong but almost halfway through and I'm still waiting to get into it :( I also.. don't think the audiobook is as amazing as everyone says it is? January LaVoy is a great narrator but having listened to 42 audiobooks so far this year, it genuinely didn't stand out to me particularly.

I have always been someone who doesn't really hold back on not finishing books but books like Reverie suffer a little bit from the times that we live in and the way that I just really want to enjoy what I'm reading or at least feel like I am getting SOMETHING out of it... and I also haven't had a 5 star read in ages and I'm just so sick of mediocre reads ...more

I was no longer sure if I still wanted to read this and decided to just give the audiobook a chance but this book was just not for me whatsoever. I also wouldn't necessarily recommend the audiobook for this reading experience because I don’t think that the voice of the narrator and the tone in which they read it really fit the book or rather it just very much immediately creates a certain atmosphere that didn't fit for me personally.

This is like my third or fourth time trying to get into this book. This is sooo boring and I am not invested in these characters whatsoever. Something about the way that Adrienne Young writes characters and even the world building is just not working for me at all and knowing that even a lot of people who enjoyed the author's debut novel are not really vibing with this, leaves me with no motivation whatsoever to finish this.
