It ruined all the chores and adulting I had to do but I really enjoyed my time so I can't complain. The story is covered for the most part in the anime but I enjoyed spending time with these characters quite a bit. The extra sweetner were the deeper dives in certain places - and especially the side stories. Those are definately worth reading if one has already seen the anime. The plot wasn't new per se but I was smiling throughout. There is something comforting about the book - I think the translation is done quite well. It captures the fun but touching tone of the story well.
Here ends the first arc of Myne's story - which is making me heart twinge a little. But I am looking forward to her journey as an apprentice priestess soon. ...more

I loved this arc in the anime so no surprises here that this book really worked for me here as well.
I am not sure about the exact age range for the book but this volume is almost middle-grade ish for me. As a result, I was quite charmed by Myne and Lutz once again. Only downside was that this made me want to rewatch the show - again.
Maybe I'll treat myself when I am a few more volumes in....more

The anime is one of my favourites so a lot of the plot points were the same but without the engaging performance of the voice actors. Myne in the book comes across as complaining a bit more and is less cute. The comparison is not really fair given the difference in medium but it did colour my reading. I enjoyed reading this because of the reminder it gave me to some of my favourite scenes, and not because of the book itself. I’ll settle for 3 stars - I enjoyed it but I am looking forward to getting to the volumes which have not been adapted to give this a fair shake....more
Unfortunately this wasn’t working for me and I was getting too bored to continue. The premise is fantastic but the writing is a little DNF on page 148
Unfortunately this wasn’t working for me and I was getting too bored to continue. The premise is fantastic but the writing is a little too simplistic for this too world. We switch between each of the characters’ lives too quickly for me to buy into the grand love.
I will skin ahead to see what the mystery is but I won’t be rating this book as I didn’t really read this through. Disappointed as the physical copy of the book I have is lovely. ...more

I am not sure I want to continue with the series. Book 1 was great but since we don't know the status of Book 3 I think I want to treat Dreadnought as a stanalone. An excellent one I don't want to complicate.
However, the audio is on audible plus so I may come back to this if the mood strikes. ...more

This wasn’t bad - the audio was pretty fair. However 60% into the book I was kind of bored. The outline of the plot was fine enough but I wasn’t invested in any of the characters. Our lead, being forcibly married, is very passive. She doesn’t do anything. This will probably change but after falling asleep over the audio - again - I’ve decided I don’t care.
But this is one I may come back to as the writing was pretty fun and I think if I read this physically I may have enjoyed this more. Maybe … ...more
After rediscovering the audiobook for the well-loved fairytales from Ladybird, , I wanted to go and read a longer treatment of this fairytale. I lovedAfter rediscovering the audiobook for the well-loved fairytales from Ladybird, , I wanted to go and read a longer treatment of this fairytale. I loved this story as a child - for which I credit this book:
I found this on searching the library and it was serendipity because I really loved the book. This is a middle-grade retelling following our titular sisters. Through in a missing father, some adventure and lots of charm - and you get this book.
The version of the book I have was illustrated by the author; some really lovely drawings added to my reading experience. There is a goat and a librarian who was my favourite.
All in all - a lovely few hours. Objectively I think this was be excellent for younger readers - it has the right mix of fairy-tale comfort with plot. I am rating it 4 stars for on my scale - basically because I am as old as scrooge and don't know any better.
AKA - I may up this when I objectively thing about this and get in touch with my inner child. ...more
