I loved how confident Yardiel when it came to his identity and held those around him accountable for using his correct pronouns and treating him like the man he was becoming. Julian was very supportive of Yardiel and gave him confidence when that annoying self doubt talk starting to happen. The dynamic between the two of them made me smile. I really do hope we get another book with the crew or possibly a novella? I’ll take anything I can get at this point. ...more

The second half of the book really picks up and I enjoyed the way everything unfolded. I could also relate to Liz as I do suffer from anxiety and looking back I most likely had it as a teen as well, but didn’t understand what was wrong. I can also relate to anxiety holding me back as well in high school and reading this book made me regret not going to my prom. *sighs* Now that I’m older and I’m in therapy I’ve made a lot of progress. So while reading this story I couldn’t help, but root for Liz and be her personal cheerleader....more

I did have to take a break while reading because this story made me think of all the kids in the detention centers and all of the horror stories I’ve heard. The denial of the abuse and mistreatment of the detainees from the last administration made me sick as well. If I’m not mistaken the former First Lady said that they were happy being there. ...more

I’m a picky reader in general and even harsher critic when it comes to my paranormal reads. As much as I wanted to like this story, it just didn’t work for me. I saw all the “shocking twists” a mile away and called them before the book was over. I didn’t care for Leeds at all. He could have handle the whole situation better and I’m not a fan of the gaslighting in this book. Especially as someone who suffers from mental health issues. This book reminded me of a combination of Ghost Whisperer, Ghost Hunter & Final Destination 2. I do applaud Hoover for stepping into a new genre that she has never written in before which takes a lot courage and for what it’s worth it’s a quick read....more

My thoughts:
I was really enjoying this story and then they had to go and kill the dog, Barney. I felt it was so unnecessary and wasn’t needed in the story at all. Even with the death of Barney, I continued with the story because I HAD to know how it was going to unfold and I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. I had one theory figured out and was correct, but I wasn’t expecting the other shoe that dropped while reading. I’m very picky about young adult books and I really enjoyed this story. I’m looking forward to reading Good Girl, Bad Blood by this author....more

I was excited to read this book due to the hype I’ve seen on social media. The story started off strong and held my attention, but slowly it took a turn for the unbelievable. There is a supernatural element to this story and honestly I felt it ruined the story line. I do like books with supernatural elements, but I went into this book thinking it was going to be a medical thriller and that’s NOT what this book was and caused me to be disappointed. At no point was I thrilled, heart racing and found the whole ending to be lackluster. Don't even get me started on the main characters fiancee. *Insert eye roll* I'm really getting tired of books being billed as thrillers, for me to only be bored and disappointed when the story is over. I did listen to this book on audio which is why I kept going as it’s only four hours and the narrator was good....more

This was my first time reading this author and it wasn’t a bad read, but something about this story just didn’t grab me and I couldn’t connect to the story the way I wanted. The way Sunny treated his friends after they went along with his lie when they didn’t even want to was appalling. Friends like those are rare and you treat them as such. His parents were so out of touch at times. I'm not sure what the mood of this book was supposed to be. One minute it would be light and funny and the minute it tackled some serious issues. So for me it was hard to find my groove while reading as I didn't know what to expect. I did like that the book had a diverse group of characters. I also felt that the ending was wrapped up to nicely giving everything that happened between Sunny and Cirrus. I have heard good things about Frankly In Love by this author and hoping I have a better outcome with that book. In closing, I didn't hate the book nor did I love it. ...more

I really enjoyed this own voices novel. Camila has dreams of playing futbol professionally, but because she is a woman that is unheard of and best left to the men. This book dealt with a lot of issues such as misogyny, missing and exploited girls/ women and domestic violence. Camila’s father was a complete jerk and they way he treated his wife and kids were terrible. There is a romantic element in this book and I liked how Camila didn’t let a guy determine her fate which I know wasn’t an easy choice. The audiobook narrator did a great job throughout the whole story. I was able to finish in one day. I also appreciate the authors note at the very end....more

I didn’t really care for him if I’m being honest. As expected there is a twist that I didn’t see coming and I liked the way it was handled. It wasn’t dragged out and was handle in a mature adult manner. If you’re looking for a low angst single parent romance look no further. Arndt and York just have this undeniable chemistry when they work together and it shows in their joint performances....more
