Because when people misappraise your intelligence and abilities, they’re merely pointing out their own vulnerabilities—the gaping holes in their judgment that need to stay open if you want to cartwheel through later on a flaming horse, correcting the record with your sword of justice.”
I went into this book with high hopes, and it did not disappoint. I knew bits and pieces about Edward Snowden beforehand (I think just about everybody does), but to read about the buildup, the process, and the aftermath was truly awe-inspiring. Snowden gave up his money, his house, his job, and his citizenship in a selfless act to try and protect people's privacy. The story flowed well, the writing was clear and concise, and it did a good job of explaining technical terms to a (majority) non-technical audience. Overall, very good book, well worth reading....more

It is currently 11:28 PM, with an 11:30 PM due date. Now that I'm finished, I think that it's a great time to review this book before I crash and sleep for 48 hours.
Overall, I thought that this was a very interesting, impactful, and touching story about the struggles of poverty, culture, and differences between parents and children. I do think that there was quite a lot to keep track of, as there were so many different paths and characters, but going slowly and reading carefully (along with making a character map) really did the trick. I really like the way the story finished, as it wrapped things up nicely, leaving some questions unanswered, but in that “feel good” way, where there wasn’t anything detrimental left out. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I would definitely recommend it to other people that I think would enjoy it.
I still can't believe that this is Grisham's debut novel. It's so well put together; engaging and never boring, even when there's little going on.
