I could not put this book down, so I stayed up past my bedtime each night to keep reading! I was so excited to read this when I saw the cover, it’s just so gorgeous! Normally, this wouldn’t be my kind of genre to read, but I’m very glad that I did. This is a dual timeline story that is so gripping and immersive. The author’s words are so beautiful and detailed. I loved Caroline’s thrilling adventure to solve the mystery she stumbled upon. I felt like I was there, searching with her. So many chapters ended on a cliffhanger or an intense moment, and each chapter alternated timelines, that I just HAD to keep reading. The ending shocked me for both timelines, and I loved it so much! I immediately fell in love with all the characters, except Caroline’s husband. He was the worst. The book had a very beautiful theme to it; Follow your dreams, never settle, and don’t lose yourself. I’m only sad that it’s over.

I absolutely loved the atmosphere. A creepy abandoned town? I live for this stuff! I would’ve totally gone along. It’s creepy, dark and sinister. Just the way I like it. The only part I didn’t like, was the ending. I expected that ending. There was nothing wrong with it, I was just hoping to be a little more shocked and scared. I did really connect with this plot, though. Have you ever heard of Silent Hill? It’s based off a town called Centralia. It’s an abandoned mine town. A coal mine fire has been burning beneath the ground since 1962. I’ve been there. It’s just as creepy as this book. So, if you’re looking for a mildly creepy read for spooky season, I highly suggest this one!...more

I chose this book because it specifically said that even though it was part of a series, it was also fine to read as a stand-alone. This turned out to be false. It was incredibly confusing and lacked any character introductions or a real plot. The book felt choppy, like it was missing chunks of plot and jumped around a lot. It was also incredibly repetitive. I didn’t understand who the characters were, what they were doing, and why they just happened upon Old Tailem. I did finish the book, but it just wasn’t for me....more
Secret Santa is a book I bought solely for the cover. I didn’t even know what it was about, but I knew I needed it. I read through this VERY quickly. Secret Santa is a book I bought solely for the cover. I didn’t even know what it was about, but I knew I needed it. I read through this VERY quickly. The 80’s horror vibe makes it easy to get caught up in. It was such a fast and fun read. It is character driven, which makes for some very interesting characters. The only downside is that it could’ve been darker and creepier, maybe a little bit more graphic. It was still a fun read, though! I love festive horror so much. This book really got me in the Christmas spirit. I highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a spooky holiday read....more

What a cast full of characters! They are.. a super dysfunctional family to say the least. Hercule Poirot was his typical sassy self. He always cracks me up. The ending totally caught me off guard, not that I can ever solve a Christie mystery. And it’s all about holiday murder! How exciting! This is probably one of my favorite Agatha Christie novels now. I’m so glad I read it! If you’re looking for a little murder with your festivities, check out this book! It’s quite spectacular....more

The fall atmosphere and the spooky Halloween vibes really grabbed my attention. However, the plot wasn’t as Halloween themed as I had hoped, given the title. I did really enjoy the characters and Poirot’s snarkiness, like always. The ending was certainly surprising and unsuspecting. Overall, it was a fun read! It was an excellent first spooky season read....more
